Wimbledon 2016

there will be tears if Fed doesn't win it this year. he can't beat Djoks but now he doesn't have to.

Dimitrov is so useless. So much for being nicknamed baby Fed.

I'm a little surprised no-one's talking about this yet.

Does anyone think Djokovic threw the game in some way? I don't think he made a conscious decision to but the errors he made right at the end were remarkable and he gave off the impression he wasn't that disappointed in the press conference. Sounded like he actually wanted some time off for personal reasons and the hunger really wasn't there this time.

Of course he was disappointed. But he realises that he has had a brilliant year and today was a small blip.

He's had matches like this before. But a lot of the time he got away with it.

I think he had some shoulder injury because he touched it about 100 times during the conference.

Come on Murray.. this is your chance now.
Can't help but feel it may be one of his last chances to win a slam. He isn't getting any younger and he will always be a heavy underdog if he meats Djokovic.

Nah he'd get more chances considering how shit the younger generation is at the moment. Wouldnt surprise me if he wins two more in his thirties.

I think he will win either the French or Australian too before he retires. He's still super fit .. so another 3 years of his peak still left imo.

Just got in and seen Djokovic is out - pleased about that, just hope it doesn't mean Boris gets anywhere near the commentator's box next week.

You're probably right in that it's a physical issue, but he made it clear there was an issue he didn't want to talk about and it sounded like a mental thing with me. His prioriy didn't seem to be tennis at this point in time.

It's hardly a 'bottle job' is it. The man is 35 in a month.

That is true but it doesn't change the fact that he suddenly makes a ton of unforced errors in big games. If that isn't choking I don't know what is.

Federer has won the last 5 meetings against Murray. Including how he demolished him at the event last year.

So much for bottle job.

Well aware of the record. I said big player, and Murray is an example. And I think things aren't going to be easy for Fed if they meet this time.

Bit of a stretch, that.

Attacking players tend to make more unforced errors as they play better opponents. It's only natural that a 34 year old Federer will make more "unforced" errors agaisnt a peak Djokovic than he would against John Isner. Basically your definition is warped.

Yea I get that but his performances just plummet. Many of his unforced errors are made under no pressure too and he shanks his shots far too much. It's a mental block he has against Djoka IMO.

Every player has had a mental block against Djokovic in the past few years.

Because he has been that good. Nadal and Murray have also struggled against him too.

Big serve and big forehand can get you far on grass. He's won Queens, its not as a big shock as what's being made

Fed with yet another walkover of a draw (nothing new there obviously). Hopefully Murray beats him.

Djokovic was well off his best, no power in his shots and worse he was short of depth. Querry has the movement of a tree and he still won

There's no mental block. Djokovic is just the better player now. Federer at his age naturally knows he needs to take more risks against someone at his peak and better than him. And so he plays shots he wouldn't otherwise to keep points shorter.

Got centre court tickets for today! The order of play isn't amazing (would rather see Kyrgios rather than Berdych) but can't complain really. Could see another dodgy Serena performance.

That's what I'm trying to say; he makes so many unforced errors on bread and butter shots, not high risk shots, and shanks his backhand under no pressure. It IS a mental and a confidence thing and not simply a difference in ability although that's a massive factor.

Not really true. Djokovic beat him in 4 in the Us Open and it was a closely contested match. That was about a fair result for a match up between 34 year old Federer and peak Djokovic. Wimbledon 2014 went to 5 and was super close. Had Federer been missing simple shots left right and centre, these wouldnt have been even contests. You're probably taking the errors where Djokovic hits a good deep shot as your evidence when it's not. Federer goes for more and makes more errors against Djokovic because he is forced to go for more. He knows he can't win long rallies if he plays it safe to keep hos error count down.

he has a point though. every time Djokovic wins a slam I read how poor is the rest of the tour even though he regularly (and convincingly) beats Nadal, Murray and Federer. Federer doesn't even have to do that since there is no Nadal anymore, no Djokovic and no Waw and these are the only players besides Cilic that he couldn't go past them in the last few years. so yeah, he got lucky.

Kyrgios playing very well here. A lot of the time when I watch him he looks fantastic, but he can never seem to play that consistently well match to match. If he can do that he'll win slams I reckon, especially since he's still very young and the current big players are only getting older

What's the deal with Isner? He always seems to play in this long matches.
He's 6'10, and when he serves well it's almost impossible to break him. That's his main strength though, and he's not that good at breaking other players. It just results in a game where nobody can break serve
