Apparently it changes the conditions so the temperature changes and the ball slows down a bit.
The fact that Janowicz has been complaining since about 8pm is just ridiculous too. It's nowhere near dark now, so it's a joke that he was complaining about it back then.
It changes ball speed, think it may be slower but could be wrong and can improve accuracy as there will be no wind. Benefits a big server.

I still think having a roof is unfair. For one, the guys scheduled to play on center court are guarenteed to finish their matches on the designated day in the early rounds. Potential opponents in the next round who are playing on the outer courts are not afforded this luxary.
