Yeah but if Ferrer can take Soderling to the brink in a 5 setter then Nadal should beat him, Nadals a much better player than Ferrer after all, but Soderling has a big game and Grass is probably his best bet at beating Nadal outside of hardcourts of course.

I was nervous about the RG final last month. This match will be even more nerve wracking. Can't really see Nadal beating Sod in this form :nervous:

I don't think the court was in good condition today. Sod got himself into trouble today. His serve was bad. He made an awful lot of mistakes and like 11 DF's if not more.

Ferrer played like 2-3 feet behind the baseline which frustrated Soderling - the way Nadal used to play. However Nadal steps into the court now, Soderling played deep as in the whole tourney. If Nadal is to beat him he has to play like Ferrer today.

Great defense and point from Rafa. 2 Break points. Come on Rafa take it and finish this match quickly please.

I'm sure Nadal will go all defense against him anyway. Did it at the final at RG too. He'll make sure he returns everything.

2 more break points wasted by rafa.

Nadal needs to attack the 2nd serve more on these break points. Twice now he's gone defensive on a 2nd serve

yeah but he plays much more advanced than what it was against him at the RG. In his last match they showed his hit points and they were good 2-3 feet closer.

You joking? i said i fancied Nadal would walk the French final in 3 and he did, On clay Nadals on a different planet to the rest so unless something like injury occured i never had a doubt Nadal would walk that Roland Garros final.

Of course grass is a different story, the servers come into it more and Soderlings game is very big which suits grass and dosnt suit Nadal obviously, i still fancy Nadal to beat him because simply hes a better player than Soderling but with Nadal having his knee issues bothering him again all it would take is Sod to bring his A game on this surface and he'll be in big trouble.

But still Ferrer showed the way today and Nadals a good few levels superior to Ferrer.

I knew he would get to the final. But against Soderling it's a different story. Specially after what had happened last year. And Nadal had struggled against the big serve of Almagro so I was not too confident of him handling Sod's serve really.

Good break from Nadal. Nadal's really going to have to take more of the break poitns against Sod than he's done in the last 3 games and today

boy PHM is not up for it today. That volley miss in the net was awful, now he's broken. Seems to happen exactly the same as to Melzer.
So this match will be fast.

Meanwhile Roddick with 2 BP.

Wasted one already

I would think Nadal would change his tactics against Soderling and play much like Ferrer did today i.e deeper, id imagine anyway it would make alot more sense.

yeah it would. I thought he'll do the same against Haase, cause he served big, but he didn't change his gameplan which was surprising.

Thare ya go Roddick. Lu saves the game.

Chipping 2nd serves on BP. Great.

Yeah he would have to. Can't see him attacking at all against Sod.

Will probably play similar to the way he played in the RG final.

Nadal's looked good today. Finally. His last straight sets win seems ages away :D

But big servers arnt anywhere near as threatening on clay as on other surfaces, so Soderlings main weapon was half the threat it would be on Grass and the Hard courts of the ozzie and US.....and as for last year well Nadal wasnt fit was he i think we all know that, he pulled out of wimbledon 3 days later was it so obviously he wasnt right and fair play to Soderling he took advantage but a fully fit Nadal wouldnt have lost that match.

When fit no one on clay gets close to Rafa, almagro is the best of the rest on that surface need to keep an eye on him.

He had never watched Hasse play much I think so he din't really know what to expect.

Soderling advantage is that he hits very deep. Has very good 1st and 2nd serve, but his main advantage is that he keeps the ball deep and he doesn't feed his opponent a chance to finish it off. Both wings. Add to that his heavy balls and his opponent is quite often out of position.

If he keeps his game and doesn't fall asleep on serve like today I believe he can take the whole thing.

Yeah true but if conditions were damp and grey like they were in SOd's match with Fed it could have gotten hard because then his serve was really booming. Even almagro was serving amazingly well.

But yeah Nadal din't get out of 2nd gear really for most of the tournament and yet won easily

Nah he won't beat Fed on grass.

All the shots that were not going against Petz are going good for Nadal today. If even some of the passing shots had been better in the last match it would have never gone to 5 sets.

That's what Nadal's 9th brek point already?

I do to actually hence why if rafa had of lost tonight (not happening now of course :D) id have been pleased Soderling got through as i think hed be a major threat to Federer, i think the winner of the Nadal - Soderling quater final will be in the final.

Roddick's really getting chances on the Lu serve now

Lu just hit a great running forehand. The kid has a game, but Roddick is really missing the crucial points today. Those 2 BP he stayed back, like he's afraid to go for it. Even on 2nd serve..

Well it seems that everybody on here hates Murray, but let's not forget that he hasn't lost a set, yet.

I think the winner of Nadal Soderling will win the tournament actually. Fed might slip up before the final...

Nadal really needs to start taking some of these break points. Wasting far far too many

Gotta start converting more of these BP's Rafa, you wont see many against Soderling id imagine.

Exactly. I don't think anyone has wasted more BP's than Nadal in this tournament. Wasted around 8-10 today.

Wasted over 13 in the last match as well

He's 26 :D

Thing with Federer is hes mind fecked so many of the current field their all shit scared of him, apart from Nadal i dont think anyone really fancies themselves when it gets to a cut and thrust of a slam final against Federer, thats what pisses me off most because hes not the player he was 3 years ago but the rep hes built up beats opponenets before they get out there....it all comes down to what youve got between the ears when it gets to a slam final.

Everything about Nadal has been perfect today except the BP conversion rate

Yeah mentally almost everyone is beaten before they step on the court. But sod beat him now, Del Po beat him last year.

If Murray had any balls he would have atleast tried in Australia.

Aye well Murrays got no first serve when it matters, in fact his first serve percentage is an embaressment for a player ranked 4 in the world, how many times he misses it is ridiculous, if he could get it right he might actually win a set in a slam final!

Never gonna win a grand slam with a first serve percentage below 40!
