This thread has turned into a Tennis version of Messi vs Ronaldo debates, isn't it possible to like both of the players rather than comparing them all the time and belittling one of the player's achievements.

For what it's worth, I think Nadal and Federer are both great players.

But I also think Nadal is a complete cnut, who, when watching, continually breaks little rules but yet still gets away with it. He has a tantrum when he loses, and always seem to develop a knee issue when he is losing or looks tired.

A friend is a co owner of a tennis school, and federer visited a couple of years ago. He spent close to 3 hours there when he was only supposed to stay 1, so that every kid there could knock with him. He's a good guy.

So I'm not really a fanboy, but I have reason to dislike one, and like the other.

Yeah sore loser or not, I don't think this should be doubted. He organised the "Hit for Haiti" at the Australian Open.

4th round humiliation or loss in the final. That's the only thing Murray does in Slams

1st Slam final he reached in the US Open he had played for 4 days in a row including the final in this so not the best preparation to face Federer. He did beat Nadal in a sensational match in the semi to get there though.

This years Australian Open final when he needed his serve it didn't turn up, which if you follow Murray as some of us do you will know this is now a big part of his game and he always struggles if this is not performing. Again in this run to the final he beat Nadal again and even though Nadal eventually retired injured Murray had him beat well before this.

Murray has the ability to beat anyone on his day but so far his problem has been finding the consistancy he has shown in 3 set matches and carrying it over into the Slams to do it to the final and win. It will come in time though at one of the Slams and he will manage to go all the way, whether some here like it or not.

Honestly lads, you've ruined this thread with this fecking nonsense. They're both great players. They're both almost universally regarded as great sportsmen and very decent guys. They're both at the head of the Players' Council. Voted for by their peers. The people that actually know them and are in a position to judge their standing in the game.

Yet due to the black and white nature of redcafe one has to be great in every way, and the other beyond saving.

We need to be careful or a discussion on tennis might actually break out.

Well we all accept Fed is a great player and every player has his bad points but Enigma was on a one man mission to brand Nadal a cheat

I have nothing against his game. I don't like Nadal's game but that doesn't mean that he's not the second best player of his generation and probably(rivaled only by Borg) the best clay courter in the Open era.

I don't think that PP would've won the match yesterday. I didn't like what antics Nadal used to go through. You brought Federer in the debate, not me. ;)

Well me and others brought up Federer only because you said that Nadal cheats and Federer never does anything unfair or disgraceful. ;)

I said cheating not comments about fellow players and side stuff what Nadal says about others.

But I may have taken that a bit over the top yesterday. :D

Rafael Nadal admits he is increasingly concerned about the knee problems which jeopardise his career.
The Spanish superstar was unable to defend his titles at Queen's Club and Wimbledon last year after suffering tendinitis in both knees.
The World No.1, who is still only 24, insists he will be fit to face France's Paul-Henri Mathieu in the fourth round today on Court One.
But Nadal has already pulled out of Spain's Davis Cup clash with France after Wimbledon for treatment.
And he also skipped the Barcelona Open in April.
"Sure, I am a little bit scared about the knee," admitted Nadal, who needed on-court treatment during Saturday's third-round win over Philipp Petzschner.
"I don't know how bad my knee is, but I am not thinking about retiring. I don't like to say much because when you lose it always looks like an excuse.
"But at the same time I know the knees are not 100 per cent recovered.
"It is a big disappointment not to be in the Davis Cup against France. I need to do this treatment after here though."

Any you know for people saying he fakes the injuries, this guy's been playing proffessional tennis since he was just 16.

He's had 9 years on court and playing the kind of all action tennis he plays it's bound to start having an effect now. I think he should start going the Fed way and concentrate solely on Slams and forget the Masters, where he anyway holds the record for maximum titles.

Q. Are you suggesting there might have been a bit of gamesmanship involved there?

PHILIPP PETZSCHNER: I cannot say this. You have to ask him what it was. But I didn't feel any difference afterwards or before.

So he was ‑‑ I thought he was moving great. I only could say if I would be injured like this once I would be happy. No, but I don't know. Maybe he had something. Maybe it was just a clever part to take a timeout there.

Аpparently PP wasn't too happy with the timeout either. I'm sure he's blaming his loss on the timeout. In reality Nadal should've beaten him anyway. Still he brought it up in the interview as well.

Well PP is not one who should be bringing this up as he took even more time out's than nadal and he was ripping crosscourt and down the line winners after his final time out.

And Nadal's also pulled out from the Davis Cup. He's not one to usually pull out of playing for his country like Murray and Federer love to do.

I think there is a bit of a problem with his knee. And the reason why I think Nadal called for a "arm related" timeout was because you can't take more than one timeout for the same problem afaik. So he had to make up some reason for getting a timeout I guess.

But he had a lot of treatment on his left knee before Rolland Garros, something called tendon regeneration. However he's been playing a lot since then and not got the chance to undergo the treatment on the right knee. So I think he's going to undergo treatment on that.

And the journalists really need to stop asking Nadal about his knees in every single interview and press conference. They keep asking the same question and then he needs to say something and if he does say something people start saying he's using it as an excuse.

Hewitt Djokovic today

And Serena Sharapova and Murray Querrey and Kim vs Henin. Great day for tennis

Cljisters has destroyed Henin in this 2nd set. Playing some great stuff. Hope she takes the third too.

She's returned the stronger of the two after their respective comebacks imo

Federer is up 2-0 sets 4-3 40-30 on his serve in the 3rd.

He played well today especially on return, having in mind Melzer was serving 75%+ 1 st serve throughout the match. But in reality Melzer was not consistent and pretty poor on return, having in mind Federer had an off service day.

On other courts Tsonga is up 2 sets to 0 against Benneteau and Brands is up 1-0 sets against Berdych.

I think Fed is over his poor form. He has Brands or Berdych next up which I think he'l win pretty easily.

After that Hewitt? Or rodick?

Cljisters two points from the match. Come on Kim

Ah draws opening up again for Federer. Easy quarter finals. Semi could be testing, just hope it's not Djokovich who makes it through.

Melzer wasn't up for it today. Especially in the first set he blasted like 5-6 2nd serve returns long, wide or in the net.

If Federer is to go to the final he needs that 1st serve. Today Melzer failed to capitalize but Hewitt and Roddick certainly can.

Tsonga is looking good as well.

Hewitt is my dark horse to win this tournament. He's been in fine form and out of the two former "champions" he's definitely got a better game than Roddick.

I really want to watch him vs Chokeovich but the Holland match is starting

Melzer is quite poor really. Had just the one good run to the semis at RG. Tsonga will play Murray after Querrey right? Even he has a straightforward draw.

I can't see Nadal getting past Soderling :nervous:

Typically shit fitness by Djokovic. Struggling after being 2 sets to love up and now broken in the 3rd set.

Soderling a set and a break up against Ferer. He's going to be a huge threat :nervous:

What on earth is Hewitt doing. Been 0-40 up on consecutive Jokeovich serves and messed up all 3 the first time and 2 this time.

Ok he takes the 6th break point in 2 games. Set hewitt. Hewitt is going to win this in 5. Joke is struggling big time.

Lol, Djokovic and Murray play real good, fluid tennis. First time for quite a while.

Djoko up a break in the 4th. Murray to serve for set 1 at 5-3 and Sod up a break 3-0 in set 3, playing at set a piece.

Why the hell is Sod and Ferrer pushed to court 9? There's simple no grass there, favors Ferrer, who is playing surprisingly good.

Djoko will bottle it before he even gets to the semis, as usual.

Come on Ferrer, beat the Sod!

Murray in bottling mode now

3 set points and he gets broken. Back on serve now

Hewitt gets the break back. Come on!

This is just delaying Nadal's match though

And now Murray has lost it, facing BP.

Lol after AO like everything broke apart from him. All mental issues.

Djokovic made a silly DF to get broken, but still pretty entertaining match.

All 4 matches are pretty good. Lu is holding his own against Roddick it seems.

Tbh both Murray and Federer have completely lost it since that Aussie open. Neither has won a tournament and I don't think Murray has even gone past the quarters at any tournament while Fed has gotten to just 1 semi at Estori, 1 final at madrid and 1 final at Halle.

Dunno what's happened to the two of them. Djokovic has been his usual bottling self really

Soderling takes the 3rd 6-2. Will serve in the 4th.

Soderling has really upped his return game, overpowered Ferrer pretty much from both wings. Djokovic made a stupid error again but Hewitt shows he still has a solid defense. Seems after his 2nd hip surgery he's moving much, much better.

And Murray breaks to take the 1st.

TBF I don't think Federer cares about any tournament bar Grand Slams. His body language in Miami, IW and against Gulbis was appauling. He doesn't seem to care and having in mind his career it's pretty much normal - just like Sampras.

As for Murray he can't put himself together mentally, if he loses another final to Federer I don't know what will happen to him.

Which matches are you watching? All are good.

Sam wasted his chances, and the break points there against Murray. First real test Murray has faced till now and he's struggled. He's yet the only player not to have dropped a set though.

Soderling vs Nadal is a potential next round clash :(
