Willian

If we are going for an experienced signing of a player aged around 29/30, then I would prefer Perisic over Willian. We need a players with exceptional crossing abilities and Persic > Willian when it comes to crossing. He is also more versatile, better defensively and also good in the air. Massive fan of his and was gutted we didn't get him last summer.

However, Willian is still an upgrade on what we have currently. A pacey and direct player is what we need on the right, he is also good at set-pieces and has PL experience. I was at the Chelsea game at Old Trafford few months back and Willian was quality! But he seems to be quite inconsistent when I see him play, Chelsea fans may know more...

We've like a million left wingers though.

I really hope he comes to United. The only Chelsea player that I like. He is fantastic and one of the only players not to down tools under Mourinho. He has been their best player this season, and anyone who says Hazard has is wrong and just going off how highly rated his reputation is.

Willian is a work horse and also provides flair in attack. Can play on the left, on the right, through the middle, and can even play as a wingback in a 3 5 2 system if necessary. The guy is better than Mata, Lingard, Martial and Rashford. What is there not to want?

Willian or Mahrez. We need someone who can cross a ball and take a corner. Our delivery from set pieces is just crap in general

 Is it just United fans that rate him so highly? He’d be a throughly uninspiring signing and is no better that what we have. For all those that criticise Martial/Rashford etc, his end product is even worse.

Perisic is not happening. He signed a new deal last summer and we went and signed Sanchez. Perisic plays predominantly LW. He's played 10 games on the RW for Inter in 3 years (mostly out of necessity) and 88 on the LW. Also we know Sanchez plays better on the left than the right.

Apart from the huge fee we'd have to pay to pry him from Inter now, it'd be a selection headache with too many players preferring to play LW rather than RW. We don't need any more LWs shoehorned into the RW. We need a natural RW player for a change.

He can also take decent corners, unlike anyone in our squad, and he is good at free kicks both direct and swinging crosses in.

You should give up watching football if you think Willian would be no better than the dross we currently have playing on the right wing.

I don't give a shit about how old he is, if he is a top RW we should go for him. It's looking like we'll get a good deal too.

I don't want another season of fecking Lingard/Mata etc on the right. Need some proper width.

I don't think it is a stretch to say that we have been lop-sided all season and played without anything more than a defensive right side that is fading game by game and soon will not even contribute at an acceptable level defensively either.

You know he got voted as player of the year for them, right? By the players no less.

Yep

He's absolute quality. Baffling that any United fan could see how lopsided and lacking in dynamism we were last year but turn their noses up at this guy.

Yep

Go and have a look what their fans think. He was good around the turn of the year but for large parts he’s been shite. There’s a reason why he’s been a bench player for most of the season.

People who don’t rate or want him, need to watch these videos of his performances v Barcelona in the CL. Pace, dribbling past players for fun, link-up play, workrate and he hit the post twice and scored a goal.
He is a player who gives his all to win and never downs tools.
Conte fell out with him and that’s the only reason he was benched, the same as Costa the year before.

Exactly! The guy is a hell of a footballer and exactly the type of player we need on the right wing. Experienced, explosive, good dribbler, good free kicks and a real team player. His output could be better, but stats don't measure everything and he was nearly always one of their best players, whenever I watched them over the last couple of seasons. Reminds me of the Matic transfer last season, when many people on here stuck up their noses, said he wouldn't improve us and he was past it. This season, he was arguably our best outfield player. If we can get him, we shouldn't hesitate at all.

Yep, I don't think I've ever watched him and not been impressed. He's got a great balance of talent and workrate.

Just like Matic, write him off please so he can shut you all up next season.

 Not even going to respond to his comment. Willian not better than Rashford and Martial is comical. They are both over rated and Willian has been great for Chelsea.

I really think that if we sign Willian, then we won't sign a right back. Willian right and Sandro left, with 3 at the back and 2 in midfield, Lukaku up front, and then our other attacking players get to play between the lines (where they are more comfortable).

Fans have bias. I'm not saying stats are flawless but when you look at WhoScored stats, the games he started he's been their second best player, only just behind Hazard.

Also, according to squawka, he's been the 9th best player this season per 90 minutes and the 16th best player overall:

My opinion isn't even primarily formed on the stats as I watch Chelsea a lot (because I like Willian) and I think he's a great player.

The reason why he has been on the bench a few times this season is because Conte is stubborn and will always play 3 at the back. Also, because he is defensively minded, he also likes 3 in midfield because he doesn't have an elite duo of midfielders - like he had last season in Kante and Matic.

I very much like the look of him.

The only worry is that until a few months ago, his name was barely mentioned.

I'm in favour of his signing, but I'm not sure how likely it is to happen - Chelsea have been criticised all season for selling us Matic so I think they'll make it much harder with Willian, especially with the Martial situation. Matic also apparently pushed for his move, which I'm not sure Willian will do once Conte is gone.

We'll see, but hopefully we have a back-up in mind.

Eh, goals and assists wise he hasn't done much, and was even worse off in that area when he played under Jose himself... If this signing goes through it's the start of the end for Mourinho for me, if it hasn't already began that is. I trust he can pick up and actually challenge for the title next season, but I don't believe Willian will help that. Isn't Neymar supposed to be leaving PSG, he almost came to us at one point who's not to say that couldn't happen (well, disregarding the stupid price tag). I'd also prefer Bale over Willian, and I don't even like Bale.

Wasn't he players player of the year at chelsea? I mean, it may not mean a lot with the season they had, but still...

I take the players more seriously since they know a thing or two about someone they play and train with day in day out. Anonimous twats on twitter don't form the consensus for my decision making.

How much are we talking?

I'd like Willian here, but I hope he doesn't swallow up a big chunk of our transfer budget.

His age isn't an issue for me either. Hopefully the likes of Chong will be ready for first team football by the time Willian is declining.

Willian is a good player but Im not sure about his attitude after all this Conte stuff.

His attitude in the 2015/16 season was impeccable.

Hit attitude this season has also been pretty good, he's been a consistent performer in an inconsistent Chelsea. Although I agree that Instagram post was unprofessional.

What is the last time we had a player who wasn't Valencia who could naturally play on the right and who could beat players down that flank? It's mindblowing how long it's been. We need someone new, and if we ask Valencia just to do the job of a regular right back rather than dictate the whole right side of the pitch then maybe we'll find he has a few years left in him yet.

I would absolutely love Willian, it would be ideal if he was younger but I still think he'd be a great signing. Even for two years or so. Although, I do think Mahrez makes more sense.
