Willian | Signed for Chelsea

I dont buy the notion of buying him so Spurs couldnt have him. Spurs aren't exactly our title rivals are they? Taking Soldado off of them would have made more sense, you know, a striker!

I don't think we'll be title challengers this season, far too many new players to bed in but we've hardly been streets apart the last 2 seasons. And the point isn't to stop an already present title challenger but to prevent a new one arising.

Anyway, nobody has said the only purpose is to stop us getting him. You still improve yourself but stop a potential direct rival from improving as well. Win win. I've barely seen Willian play so tbh I find it difficult to get too upset about losing him but a lot of people say he's a good player so I'll take their words for it. But from what I have seen, he's a creative player that plays in the front 3. A player that would significantly improve us (because we don't really have a player like that at the moment). And at Chelsea, would join one of 7 or so other players currently in that position.

Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Schurrle,Willian and De Bruyne. 6 players, most of whom are around the same level of talent (on paper) and I'm guessing most of whom will expect to be playing most games, certainly the first 5.

I wonder what Moses and Marin are thinking of their moves as well.

And of course you wouldn't have gone for Soldado because you're still going for option A.

I also don't think Willian has all that much say in where he goes. His owner decides that for him.

I still think getting rid of Mata is wrong. But if it happens all you can do is trust the manager, football is a strange beast, whilst it may seem madness to me and people on here to get rid of him, maybe if he did its because hes wants to build his own team, and he does know how to build a league winning team.I was expecting a few players may fall by the wayside this season to make way for Joses winning but less fluent sides but I was thinking it may be Oscar and Luiz, not Mata.

I really think Mata would be enough of a benefit to us to compensate for the loss of Rooney. I think it could be the only way Chelsea could force our hand, really.

Mourinho's not the sort of character to worry about names. He's always had a very specific idea about the players he wants and the teams he ultimately wants to build.

What's the feeling from a Chelsea perspective? Do you lot worry that there's substance to these Mata rumours? Do you think Mata (and cash) for Rooney is a better deal for you or us?

I think we'd be getting the better side of the deal.

It's tricky to say because there is always the fear of a 'rejuvenated' Rooney that keeps popping up.

But in terms of our team, well it does make a lot of sense to replace an unhappy player who we were struggling to find a spot for up front, with a in form, younger, sexy Spaniard, without him moaning about where he has to play.

I get where you're coming from.

But we'd be getting a player who has plundered goals and assists for fun in the last two years. He's a great age and importantly he's never once kicked up a fuss since moving to England - compare his conduct to Rooney.

I'd be extremely excited about combinations of Kagawa, Mata, Welbeck and Nani.

Mata was great for chelsea but let's not forget that rooney on his day is brilliant, when it comes to work rate and defensive duties he's better than mata, and mourinho loves players like that.

If Rooney plays to the level he can then its probably about equal. We can both lose the players without it being devastating to the team and the players we get in are players both teams badly need. Its not something I would like to do though, Ive grown to love Mata in the past 2 years.

Even if Spurs were to keep Bale, in addition to their new acquisitions, plus the likes of Lamela/Willian, the best they could hope for is a fourth place position. They are still a long way from the quality of we, City, and chelski, have at our disposal.

If Rooney plays at his very best it's not equal, Rooney is the better deal and player, but he won't so that's kind of irrelevant.

We are bidding for Mata just to destabilize Chelsea before the game.

I'm the first to mock Spurs for their over confidence, but if they kept Bale, and their new signings all gel, it's bold to say they would be a long way from the top 3.

Luckily, they're selling Bale so we're all ok!

When was the last time that happened to a big club?

If Fernandinho got one then so will Willian, I swear the criteria was something like 'play 75% of games over a 2 year period for your national team' but neither of those have, think they get it on the 'special talent' criteria.

With this signing confirmed, how many of you actually think Chelsea will use Mata as a makeweight deal to get Rooney they so crave? And can you see us accepting it say '10m + Mata' for him?

I would take a straight swap, but again I'm a huge Mata fan.

Still don't see why Mourinho would want to get rid.

I don't think we get the better side of the deal if we take a straight swap. Mata isn't worth 40m which is perhaps the price Chelsea would have to pay to get Rooney imo

Let them get Eto'o first and then test them and Mata with an offer. The timing of an offer is just as important as the offer itself.

We need to consider the fact that Mata has been at his best for the last two season and seems happy enough at Chelsea so we can expect him to perform at similar level. Rooney hasn't hit top form last season and doesn't want to be here. If both teams keep their players Chelsea are going to get more from Mata than we'll get from Rooney IMO

Having Mata will be infinitely better than having £40m on our bank account too, there just isn't enough time to prepare a bid for another player for Woodward in this window anyway so we won't spend it.

I'm hearing Woody is still on the plane to bid 25 mill for him. Fingers crossed it won't be too l... oh wait. No big deal let's go for Mata instead.

Nope. Won't happen. I reckon Moyes has his list and won't stray from it.

The 'Mata/Luiz + £10 million' that got reported by every news outlet must have come from someone.

Mata would go for £40m all day long! He's one of the top 5 in the league and elevated his game since a £24m move 2 years ago.

He has signed for the best club in the world (according to him of course).

AVB being classy in his interview today....
“The answer that I want to tell you is Willian made a choice to join Chelsea and the only I can wish him is good luck because he is a person I have a good relationship and he has decided to join another club. Good luck to him ... he made a choice, that he feels is important for the development of his career, good luck to him.”

Of course he was gonna pick Chelski. Spurs are never going to compete with them for a player unless said player fears he will not get enough playing time at the chavs.

Still doesn't make sense to me....

Oscar, Hazard, Mata, Schürle, De Bruyne and Moses

Why in godsname do you need Willian ? Who is he going to put on the bench ?

Or is he changing to some 4-1-4-1 formation ?

Only way this makes any sense, is if he is selling Mata. Maybay he believes Mata would be the only make weight for Rooney and he really really wants him at Chelsea. If he would offer us Mata, i would allow a deal for Rooney.

If he is keeping Mata, than: De Bruyne, Schürle, Moses and Oscar (or Mata) will end up on the bench. Really a waist and very unhealthy i think for the club. Mata for Rooney would be beneficial for both teams, i believe, as there is a similar issue with Rooney here.

2 top players for every position, that's what he's talked about since he first went to Chelsea. Hazard/Schurrle, Oscar/Willian, Mata/De Bruyne.
