I think it's fair to say that R9 was the more talented player, but Lewandowski turned out to be the better player in the long run.
Lewandowski himself wouldn't agree with you.

He wrote a bachelor thesis about himself. Wouldn’t be too sure about that.

Did Van Basten really do anything other than score from that cross? Outside of Holland he was a 1 in 2 striker really.
Using number and stats actually does not paint R9 in a good light. His whole career only had 1 League title and 0 Champions League. His trophy record for national team is good though.Ronaldo was simply a much more talented and better player. Lewandowski has longevity on his side of course, but ultimately, who cares? In terms of output, it's clearly a much easier era to score goals in. You can see that by the sheer number of (admittedly very good) players who score at such an absurd rate in comparison to previous generations. None of whom hold a candle to Ronaldo, or even someone like Thierry Henry from the previous generation.
Wasn't Van Basten's entire club career spent in leagues where it was 2 points for a win as well? That arguably affected how teams approached games, particularly in Italy where, as you say, the defending was brutal to begin with. And a check on his record shows 90 goals and 31 assists in 146 Serie A matches, which is pretty good going in such conditions. The season he signed for Milan, they won the league scoring just 43 goals in the process. There is a stronger argument to van Basten being better than CR7, than there is for Lewandowkski being better than him, in my opinion.
He had everything and thrived in a league where defenders would rather end your career than let you past them.
He was stronger, quicker, more agile, was a better header of the ball, took a better penalty and could drop deep and create. Superb vision on top of everything else.
And I don’t think any player touches true peak R9 either.
Debates are being ruined by becoming too stat based. You can’t compare older eras to the current one where, yes, the game is faster, but players are so much more protected.

not match fit + southgate = turd.14 goals and 6 assists in 11 games so far this season. 20 G/A before the end of October, almost 2 G/A per game on average.
Is this the same player some posters claimed "hindered" England at the Euros? And someone who's finished?

Yeah, probably cos they watched the games. Trying to rewrite his Euro as anything else than mediocre (and that's being kind) is absurd.14 goals and 6 assists in 11 games so far this season. 20 G/A before the end of October, almost 2 G/A per game on average.

He could have signed for us if he wanted to lose games under an incompetent manager. And he wouldn't have had to move abroad.

No but they do fit an agenda, so there's that! Are those figures helping his team win a match against top opposition here?
They are clearly not winning the CL, if they don't win the bundesliga what excuses can we expect? No but they do fit an agenda, so there's that!

No but he's part of the overall play. 60% possession 11 shots, they should be doing more. Where is the attack? So Bayern conceding 4 goals is the striker's fault?
Harry Kane with those players surrounding him should and would be flourising under any half-decent manager and his Euro performances weren't his fault, at all.
You could say the same thing about most of that England team as well.
That only explains so much though, he was poor at the most easy and basic things. He simply wasn't fit, was just conserving energy and waiting for chances in the box. Was same for Rooney in 2010. As you go through the tournament you need a bit more from the CF, he was in no shape to score the goal Watkins scored v Holland for example.
This stage of the season he is in peak form so no issue but it's going to be another 60 + game season with the Club World cup so if he stays fit he's featuring in over 100 games before next World Cup so no idea what state he'll turn up to that in.

Both of these were true - he was returning from injury no? He was clearly unfit, which had an impact on his overall game - low mobility, poor touch, weak involvement in the games... But what that poster is doing, trying to lay the blame as a systemic issue (and for sure, there were issues with Southgate's set-up), is frankly laughable. That only explains so much though, he was poor at the most easy and basic things.
BL had a monster season and it looks like they've slowed down. Still, Bayern could let it slip.they must win the Bundesliga this season, not to would be a monumental balls up. They did look iffy against Barca and Aston Villa though who i don't think are world beaters yet.
[ Covid 25's music hits]Only a null and void season can stop him at this stage.
It's man against farmers out thereThird goal was very cheeky.
50 BL goals in 43 games. He's unstoppable over there.
Looked unintentional to not go in directly but it did make for a pretty funny-looking goal for the record: just became quickest (in terms of playtime) Bundesliga player to ever reach 50 goals. That 3rd goal was pretty tasty
Has he won a trophy yet?2 penalties (he now scored 25 in a row, insane) and one beautiful goal today.
With his luck he'll be injured for the next World Cup and England will win it.Has he won a trophy yet?
Yeah he seems quite slow in many situations. Not that he was fast last season but i'd say he is a bit slower this season. Is he as slow and laborious at Bayern this season as he was with England over the summer?
It's interesting how he seemed to slow down so much over such a short period of time. It's great for you guys if he has - and continues to be - adapted to thatYeah he seems quite slow in many situations. Not that he was fast last season but i'd say he is a bit slower this season.
It's certainly his biggest weakness, other than that he is just a top striker.
He was never too reliant on speed to begin with. It's interesting how he seemed to slow down so much over such a short period of time. It's great for you guys if he has - and continues to be - adapted to that
