Wilfried Zaha

It'll be more like £8m plus add-ons which could take the deal to £12m or whereabouts, plus he won't be on much more than £1m a year initially. There's no way we're paying £15m up front for a Championship player, and while comparing him to the likes of Isco, Götze and Muniain you have to factor in their wages which would be three or four times more.

Why are people quoting 15m?

Independent, Daily Telegraph, Times, Guardian and Daily Mail have all said the deal will be 12m including addons(if we pay 12m and then it'll mean that he has fulfilled his potential)

The only two outlets saying 15m is Mirror and Goal.com.

Yeah, agreed.

Most sources are reporting 8 rising to 12 or something similar and people are just picking up the maximum reported price.

And even that is 10 rising to 15.

Rodriguez would cost a fortune, Porto are pimps, plus he's not really a "winger".

Rodriguez would be way above £20m, possibly around £30m. Porto have sold their players for €40m+ recently - that's how much Hulk and Falcao cost and they demanded £25m from Spurs for Moutinho. With much bigger wages Rodriguez would cost about three or four times as much as Zaha over a 4-year contract.

Yup, it's pointless to bring other players into the equation.

So the Daily Mail has claimed he'll sign for us today? That's on the United site. I guess we'll find out soon enough then. I assume these rumours must have some considerable substance considering how long they've been running and the amount of them.

Not the old next 24 hours routine again, they said that yesterday.

Depending on Nani's situation, i can see us going for Rodriguez in the summer.

The day Gill said United were interested it was a done deal. United have only been gazumped on a few occasions.

I'm liking the look of this guy. He seems to have all the right attributes to become an exceptional player, so I hope we can get this deal done ASAP.

Regarding the money, yes the figures floating around are pretty high for a championship player, but so what! If a guy was the same talent in a similar standard league in Brazil, then everyone would be creaming themselves at this possible deal.

They have been saying he will sign within the next 24 hours for weeks now. I think it's almost a done deal and he will stay at Palace for the season anyway so it's probably why there's no major rush to get it done.

Why do people care so much about transfer fees? Does it really matter? If Fergie sees a player he thinks will add something to United then I personally couldn't give a shiny shite if they cost £2mil or £20mil. What difference does it make?

This don't half annoy me when people say this. Just because it's not our money doesn't mean many fans want us going out and just throwing money around like it doesn't matter. Maybe some fans actually, ya know, give a shit about the club and the way we handle business?

For some bizarre reason there's people out there that always peddle the "Who gives a shit if we throw 50 million at a player, it's not our money!". It might not be my money, but personally I give a shit about what we do with the money we have within the club and the way we use it. Hey, some people are different, if you don't then that's your choice, but to say it doesn't matter is just silly.

That's not really regarding this transfer either. IF we brought him for around 15 million, then there wont be any complaints from me. Just this same old thing about money is peddled out on a regular basis by some of our fans that don't seem to give a shit what we do with the money the club has.

Can anyone explain why we'd buy him now and loan him back instead of just doing what we did with Smalling?

It is funny when fans laugh at Chelsea and City for spending so much money on players and then go "so fecking what if we spend that money on him, who cares, if the club wants him it's fine by me!".

The Daily Mirror claims we are going to pay Zaha £150k a week!

The difference is we earned our money, they didn't.

To be blunt, I couldn't give a feck whether it annoys you or not. All this endless shite about how £12mil or £15mil or whatever the amount may be is too much for such and such a player is bloody tedious.

Not once have I advocated what you've said mind, so it's a bit of a shite strawman you're building. I haven't said blow this amount or that amount on a player, I've not advocated us throwing money around left right and centre.

What I have said is that if United as a club feel comfortable spending x amount on a player they feel would improve us then what's it matter what the cost is? if the club are happy with it then why should fans argue whether the price is right or not? A player hasn't got a price tag, he's worth as much as the buying and selling club, and the market in general, deem him to be worth. If United are happy with the fee then why should I care? Why would I?

More to the point, why do you? What difference does it actually make?

The Daily Mirror claims we are going to pay Zaha £150k a week!

No they said he's getting paid 150k a year right now and we'll pay him ten times the amount of that which equates to 1.5m/yr and 30k/week.

Come on seriously?

There's a difference as we have earned the money through success and all.

If we earn the money, we can spend it.

Isn't buying him now and loaning him back exactly the same as we did with Smalling....? :wenger:

If United are happy with the fee then why should I care? Why would I?

Fans debate every aspect of the club to within an inch of its life. It is this emotional involvement from the fans that essentially makes the game what it is. If we become profligate in the transfer market, buying bad player and paying exorbitant wages to them then it reduces our ability to compete for success, in the short, medium and long term.

Frankly I am bemused as to why you think that it is an absurd thing to care about.

Yes, that's why I made a post asking why we're doing the exact same thing again, you eejit. Jesus, it was two fecking years ago, how hard is it to remember that we agreed a deal in January to sign him in the summer.

A transfer fee is an absurd thing to care about. We're talking about figures that you, me and the average Joe will never have in our hands or will ever fathom. If we want to fully go into transfer fees then no player is ever worth the fee and wages paid for them. £1million is an absurd amount for one club to pay another club for a player to play for them, if we really want to be honest about it. But football isn't the real world, so arguing about whether a footballer is worth this or that is absurd, none of them are worth anything, other than what the two clubs involved in the negotiations deem to be an acceptable value.

Comparing apples or oranges, Cina.

We are spending within our means. If buying Zaha is going to put us in the red, then surely other fans would be right to laugh at us. Also, those clubs spend money in huge chunks and buy players for the heck of it some times. City's summer spending and Chelsea's spending on players that they have no intention of playing cannot be compared to our spending.

Sigh, I meant laugh at the fees they pay for these players, nothing to do with the FFP, "haha can't believe they're paying so much for him, crazy money!" When we pay, or are linked to pay extortionate fees for players, people then go "ah so what, it's only a fee, if the club think he's worth it it's fine by me!"

:lol::lol::lol:

Three paragraphs each saying exactly the same thing. Go back to hissy fit school, you faggy rant-boy...

£15m for a Championship player would be absolutely hilarious, even by our standards.

If Fergie sees enough potential in him to warrant that fee then what is hilarious about it?

Also, why do most people never factor in wages when discussing potential signings? Sure we could pay £10m+ more to sign an established star, but they'd be on triple the wages that Zaha will be on ffs!

Oh good lord, read my post, I didn't say anything about Zaha, I didn't say "we laugh at other clubs but we're going to sign Zaha for 15 bazillion pounds and now they'll lol at us mate rofl!"

I'm confused...are we still allowed to laugh at Liverpool for spending 35m on Carroll??
