It was just a copy + paste job from the Michu thread which was originally used to show how clinical he was in comparison to the rest of the top 8 scorers and I just threw Taraabt in there at the end. I figured Taraabt's ludicrous record of 6% said it all. He's a stupid and selfish player, that's the only point I was making and I think it's perfectly clear. He's being compared to strikers because he shoots as much as a striker. Suárez, Ba, Defoe, Bale and van Persie - they're the only ones to have more shots than Taraabt this season. If you want to compare him to others in his position you have:
Cazorla - 7 goals from 62 shots; 11%
Fellaini - 8 goals from 52 shots; 15%
Mata - 7 goals from 45 shots; 15%
Nolan - 5 goals from 47 shots; 11%
Ruiz - 3 goals from 25 shots; 12%
Weimann - 4 goals from 29 shots; 14%
Closest to him are Gaston Ramirez and Ben Arfa but they've both had half as many shots and they still have better ratios. I think Balotelli's the only one to average over 2 shots a game with a worse ratio than Taarabt - just the one goal from 34 shots this season.
Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea enable the players you've listed - their workload lessens and responsibility is shared, as you would expect in superior teams.
West Ham have shown themselves to be a far better team than QPR, also.
We're then left with Ruiz and Weimann at Fulham and Villa respectively. Do you think those two have as much weight on their shoulders to turn games in their teams' favour as Taraabt? If the answer is no, then do you think you would see their shooting attempts increase exponentially if this was the case?
There is absolutely no denying that Taraabt takes on some ridiculous shots, but at the same time, he is probably the most pressurized player in relation to his own team to dig them out on a game-by-game basis. He comes across to me as someone who does what he does in order to aid his team rather than to further his own personal ambitions.
You only need to watch him to see he's stupid and selfish, the shots-per-goal stuff just confirms it. He creates so much because he's given so much licence to do his own thing - if you take away his licence to shoot and do fancy tricks then you lose his creative side too.
I think you're stating a distinct dislike for the player, which is unlike you as you're usually objective.
Immature? Certainly. But stupid and selfish aren't words I'd associate with Taraabt. He plays others in with a frequency not associated with genuinely selfish players and it seems to me that at QPR he does a lot of naive and speculative things because he's aware the onus is on him to save them most of the time. I'd say that immaturity in his development is manifest in how he plays the game, he isn't inherently stupid as a player and if caught early enough, a better manager and stronger coaching set-up should see a lot of his ill-advised play ironed out of his game.
If he's still playing as he does now at 26+ and has managed to get on to a better team, then your criticisms will be fair, imo.
