Hope he is not a replacement for Nani.

Anyways have rarely seen him and am confused because usually 20 year old young players based on that youtube( skill and potential shown in the video) are generally very well received when we sign them.

But why with Zaha the negativity? Is it because he is English and is coming from the championship?

I think it is because his youtube vids aren't very good if you compare them to skill compilations from most other exotic talents playing in better leagues.

Lucas Moura's weren't much better tbh.

Quality recruit can't believe the underwhelming response and comments on here. We have just signed a top English prospect and to add to the young core of British players already like Jones Smalling Wellbeck Cleverley Evans plus we have Rooney Carrick the future for United looks great.

I've only ever seen him play once (United). If memory serve me correctly he was afforded a lot of space at Old Trafford and looked dangerous every time he had the ball. He also seemed to have a lot of energy for young kid. I've read some comparing him to Ronaldo at the same age is simple delusion. He was one in a generation player.

Hoping for the best.

Did he play for Palace when they won 1-2 at OT in the CC?

Probably what really swung it for SAF.

Unlikely TBH.He's been consistently Palace's best player for the whole season and even the Palace stalwarts have been saying he's the best young player for more than a generation, better than Don Rogers etc.To make such an investment you bet we've been watching him for the season to date. It's one thing performing at OT in a one off but to do it at say Barnsley mid week is another

Just by seeing the stats, and then looking at the price, I haven't been that positive about this singing tbh.

But having watched a few videos this morning, I'm a little more excited now. Now I know you cant exactly judge a player by video highlights alone, but you can get a feel for them. And the kid looks talented.

Looks very good with the ball, can beat players with ease. Has fantastic pace, and pretty unbelievable strength for a lad so young. Obviously he's gonna have to work on his end product a lot, but he's definitely got a lot of raw potential, natural skill, and ability to work with.

I'm going to wait to see him play for us before passing judgement. He's obviously at least very promising, but we've also paid a lot of money for a Championship youngster.

That said, I agree that that YouTube comp is as impressive as any for Lucas Moura.

He's not a midfielder and the media didn't hype him up as a big signing = mardy caffers

God forbid he ever goes through bad form the ones opposed now will be out in force to inflate their egos. Transfer muppets know all

too right...just ask Feguson!!

I expect this thread to be one of the more busier ones between now and the summer.

Every little thing the kid does is going to be scrutinised to the nth degree.

yes it probably will....there is going to be a huge "zaha watch" going on..which is understandable really. It will be interesting to see how signing for united is going to affect his play for Palace. I'm wondering what that does psychologically to a player...

Excited about this signing. Looks like an immensely talented player who will only get much better under Fergie. I can see the Ronaldo comparisons because of some of the tricks in the YouTube clips. That said, he also seems a bit reminiscent of Nani circa 2008/9 - able to play on either wing and do some damage by randomly roaming into the middle.

You can't compare him to Roanldo, Ronaldo was far ahead of him at 17. There is a lot of talented players with tricks in the bag, and he should be compared to others, because he will never be close to Ronaldo.

I hope he will be the best English winger though and I am a bit exited as well. I don't think he will be as good as Nani either, but I believe he can be a top winger and better than Young and Valencia.

Lucas Moura's weren't much better tbh.

Never understood the Moura hype, every time I saw him in the Olynpics he looked good but nothing extraordinary. Unbelievable him getting sold for all that money when he couldn't even make Brazil's Olympic first XI.

As for Zaha what I have seen of him has left me similarly unimpressed. He had a good outing against us one time and has done well in the Championship but that doesn't mean he'll be the next big thing. You coulda said the same about Darren Huckerby or David Bentley once upon a time. To me this is a gamble, one that I hope pays off by the bucketload, but still a gamble. I'm also disappointed we're loaning him back with our wide men in such poor form.

Think he'll do well for us but it'll take time. If he applies himself properly, Under Sir Alex he'll be fine. It's nice to see a kid taking on players - something that Valencia and young don't always do.

We couldn't have signed him up in this window without letting him remain at Palace until the end of the season.

It was either sign him now or run the risk of other clubs becoming actively interested.

What a crap post. So basically we can't compare him to Ronaldo but we can compare him to Darren Huckerby?? How about we dont compare him to no one. So what he plays in the championship and so what he never came through Arsenal's academy. At the end of the day he's done his football education and as things stand he's the best player in the Championship and was young player of the year last year. The way i see it he's making good strides. Whether he's the next Taarbat or Ronaldo depends on how hard he works on his ability and not what he lacks in ability because he seems to be well rounded.

Lucas Moura is about as sure a thing as you can get. Yes he was overpriced but PSG have to pay higher than United or Barcelona. They are a club aiming high, it's like City, you have to pay a higher premium to attract the best talent. He was very good at the Olympics actually, completed 85 of his 92 passes and looked so comfortable on the ball.

There is a clear difference in buying merely "potential" as Ferguson calls it....and buying "a sure thing." Zaha is frankly nowhere near Lucas Moura in terms of current ability never mind potential ability. I don't see the Zaha signing as a gamble, to me it is more of a lazy, relatively expensive punt that could pay marginal dividends if the player has the capacity to learn and add more awareness and intelligence to his game. He has some raw attributes but he just doesn't possess the more subtle technique, touch, vision and passing ability of Lucas. They are a world away from each other in truth.

Its strange how it seems quite a lot of fans are a bit indifferent to this signing. I'm actually more excited about it than i was when we signed Young...

way more excited.

and I'm not even a "Young hater" like some people. I was happy when Young signed to an extent, but I really think Zaha will turn out a much better signing.

and comparisons to Ronaldo are laughable, simply because players like Ronaldo are one in million (or more), however that doesn't mean we shouldn't expect Zaha to hit great hights with us.

The only thing worth comparing those 2 over is that both obviously impressed the shit out of SAF when playing against United

Ronaldo comparisons come with every winger we are linked with that shows a tiny bit of flair, when in reality there is next to no chance that zaha will get even close to Ronaldo. Not saying that he'll turn out shit, but I wouldn't expect him to become a great player who will start on the wings for us for a long time.
Ronaldo comparisons came about when we signed obertan even, we all know how that worked out. The one thing that is for sure is that it was a lot of money for a young inexperienced English winger. Ill hold on to how I judge if its a good signing or not once he actually starts playing for us, but I'm not getting overly excited right now.

Why are they laughable? The Ronaldo comparisons are there for a reason...which is that their playing style seems very similar. I dont see anyone who is comparing their actual abilities at the same ages or staking that Zaha will ever reach Ronaldo's heights.

Simply put, Zaha reminds some of us (myself included) of a young Ronaldo. Nothing laughable about that.

So does ever young tall and quick winger with a bit of flair remind you of Ronaldo then?
