Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

I think the fact that Januzaj has looked less fazed, and more natural when playing in the first team is the reason he is playing more often right now.

Zaha has all the talent in the world, but he needs to be a little more confident and consistent.

I do not think Moyes liked that he lost the ball quite a lot when dribbling last time he played.

I felt there wasnt all that much difference in terms of excellent performance between Zaha and Adnan against Bolton in the reserves a couple of weeks ago. Both played well, looked dangerous and got a goal with Adnan maybe shading it and was since given his chance starting in the first team. I felt like they were almost competing for that spot, but given how Adnan grabbed his chance in the first team I think we could see another spot open up for Zaha to try and prove himself the same way, with the likes of Young and Valencia nearing the exit sign to give him that space.

I'm sure Moyes will have plans for him even if they take a little while to show themselves, with Januzaj being more of a focus early on and Zaha having to wait for his chance

Januzaj has more in his locker, and more of what we need right now. Zaha needs regular game time to develop and make an impression. A loan to the PL would be ideal and an opportunity to put pressure on the other struggling wingers in time for the anticipated summer clearout.

Zaha's decision making and composure is way below Januzaj's at this stage. I think a loan spell to a prem club would be useful, although I'd still rather see him in the team ahead of Young and possibly even Valencia.

It's funny some people are thinking he needs this that and the other before he can play in our first 11 in the league. I think he's ready and he needs his managers' confidence.

He's probably three times the player Young is (which isn't saying much), he can take a man on and beat him, which has been a rarity in our game for ages and he's...oh, what's the use, he's good enough, but he's not getting a chance

There's nothing I've seen of the lad that suggests he's not ready for the first team to me, at least on the bench.

Hopefully he will get a start V Norwich. I tend to agree with you. From what I have seen of his crossing ability its something we could use in the first team. Not just high crosses but his low balls into the box look decent.

Moyes said: 'Wilf has not appeared. We have not felt we have had the opportunity.
'I want Wilf to get used to what happens here. The competition is hard.
'It is just impossible to get all these players a game at the one time. You can only ever play eleven.
'It is important Wilf gets to see the level of the training here, the level of the players and the quality they have got. He is getting better which we are pleased about.'

Moyes latest quotes about Wilf.

I don't disagree with this. Januzaj has had that advantage over Zaha.

edit: This being the Moyes quotes.

He looked great in pre-season, but significantly less so against Wigan in the CS, at least to my eyes. He mostly ended up being harried into the corners by slower defenders, and seemed to be rushing it to me. He was pulled after 60 minutes.

Januzaj, with less speed and quickness, losses EPL quality defenders with relative ease.

I think Zaha is a fantastic prospect, but I hope he's prepared to spend this season as an understudy. It going to be nearly impossible to get games (outside of the LC) on the wings competing with Nani, Valencia, Young, Januzaj, Welbeck, Giggs and possibly Kagawa.

It really shouldnt be though, with Valencia and Young setting the bar so low that Zaha can keep balance on top of it whilst blindfolded

Yeah, but we won't be able to sell Young if we don't play him.

The backup plan seems to be using Welbeck and Giggs at this point.

That's not a reason to play Young.

Valencia has had more than enough chances to impress himself and hasn't done so. There's no way Zaha can do any worse and I'd rather give him vital experience than persevere Young/Valencia.

That is a massive exaggeration. Im no huge fan of Young and Ill admit Valencia hasnt looked his former self for a long time now but they havent been that bad. Some people might want to do a bit of expectation management here or they are likely to be seriously disappointed when Zaha starts getting chances.

I don't think it is. Valencia and Young have become liabilities going forward and severely hamper our play.

I don't expect Zaha to come in and take the league by storm if that's what you think. There's going to be a steep learning curve for him and I expect plenty of frustrating performances but I'd rather see him there than 2 potentially past it players

Young has been awful, especially against Man City.

The biggest advantage that Januzaj had is that he didn't bang Moyes's daughter.

Even after his rather good pre season I never expected Zaha to feature much in the first weeks of the season and that was without even taking into account how poor Young and Valencia would look. Pre season is just there to get the players working on their fitness levels and match sharpness, there have been many players who have looked amazing during preseason but struggled to get game time during the regular season.Zaha will have to be patient and will have to impress on the few opportunities he'll get just like Adnan has so far.

Playing well tonight on the England left. By far England's most dangerous player along with Ravel.

Depressingly those two have linked up really well with each other on several occasions including the goal.

This is why the cups and our CL group stage is so important this season. Zaha needs to play. I say let him be one of the first names on the team sheet for League and FA Cup games. Hopefully we can get the CL group won early so he can get some games in Europe too.

If he can't get cup games at the very least, then he must be loaned.

Ince is good as well, imagine England with Zaha one side, Ince the other and Ravel in the middle.

Rather Redmond than Ince for sure. As for Zaha, needs to tighten up his touch a little bit but other than that he's played well. Did very well for the goal and playing regular football would surely help him make sure he gets his touch right.

Yeah his touch is still a bit raw.

What he does have though is the ability to create a buzz from the crowd every time he receives the ball. He can burst past players like they're not there but then we already knew that.

What has surprised me is the strength and size of the lad in person. He's not knocked off the ball easily.

Looked dangerous tonight. It's a shame he couldn't have finished that off towards the end of the game when he cut inside from the left.

Anyone see his bust up with Ravel? Looks like he clipped Morrison's ankles so Ravel pushed him in the face

Towards the end of the game? Yeah I noticed a few players trying to calm Ravel down. Wondered what his problem was.

I liked the look of Zaha tonight on the few occasions he got the ball on his side. Ekeke mentioned his touch but he also needs to learn how to impose himself more on a game rather than wait for it to come to him although this is probably something that will come with experience. He's got some natural gifts in his locker and you can see why Fergie brought him to the club in January.

He definitely has the ability to grab a game by the balls and did so frequently for Palace last season. But you're right, he might not be consistent enough in doing so. He did it in patches tonight and was an inch away from having 3 assists to show for it.

Watching Townsend for England these last two games has made wonder if Zaha could have that same sort of impact for us? A bit of kick and run can work wonders...

why not. there is always the element of surprise with players like zaha. i'm sure he is raring to prove himself now. hope he can get a place on the bench this weekend, and maybe we will have the opportunity to give him an appearance here..

If he doesn't play in the Capital One cup on the 29th then he might as well get loaned out in January.
