Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

He's nowhere near ready to be a first team player for us, even a regular squad player, I think it's a case of our other wingers being so poor that Zaha suddenly looks like a good prospect to people when in reality he'd struggle big time in our first team.

No one knows that until he starts playing games for us.

When he plays well he's good enough. He needs to do that a bit more often, from the time I've seen him in the 2nd half of last season but I understand thats when he dropped off at Palace. Not really sure how hes going to get much more consistant if he doesnt get games. It certainly helped Nani when he had a run in the team and we couldnt call on Valencia

Based on how he's looked so far he's not really someone you'd bring on when defending a 1-0 lead against Liverpool in a game that, given the circumstances, was really important to win.

His time will come though.

Hopefully we get a draw in round 4 that allows him the chance to get a game there.

I reckon he would have come on had we gotten the second. He must be frustrated to see Januzaj ahead of him, hopefully hen keeps his head down and works hard. He will get his chance eventually.

Yep. In that situation bringing Welbeck on at the end was the better option. Hopefully we'll get a better draw in the next round but I'm not holding my breath.

Has he played any games for the reserves?

Looking at our next 5 league fixtures, I'd be very surprised if he doesn't get some game time there. Maybe even a full 90 minutes?

I didn't expect him to have much involvement in our early fixtures, but I also didn't expect Young and Valencia to be first pick. With our wingers being so poor right from the off, Zaha getting a game looked more likely as each game passed. I don't think it's outrageous to have wanted him to just be given a chance in some of those games, as we really lacked inspiration from the wide positions, and knowing we had Zaha, Kagawa, Nani and Adnan not getting a sniff made it quite frustrating.

Plays well in pre season and then doesn't see a single minute of football since the start of the season. Absolutely mental as far as I am concerned.

Don't be daft. He had some good games in pre-season but at least one very poor one too. Even at his best he had a habit of giving possession away cheaply and his most recent performance was his worst, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's having a bit of a dip in form and needs to find his mojo again. It's a massive step up for a young player who's also had to up sticks and move home. Bearing in mind the difficult fixtures we've had, it's not mental at all that he hasn't featured. Loads of examples of kids looking good on tour who never amounted to much since. I hope the same isn't true of Zaha (and I'm very confident it won't be) but reading too much into a few friendly games against diabolical opposition really is mental.

This is the truth. The hysteria pre-season about him being better than both Young and Valencia and being a nailed on starter is now looking like the folly it always was. I thought he should have gone out on loan myself, but I guess training with top quality players and settling in to life in Manchester may be more beneficial in the short term. I think he'll be loaned out in January.

I said it at the time, its a sign of the sheer lack of english players that this lad was called up for the full squad in August. And if its true that he is struggling a little with the hype, then that really didnt do him any good.

To think that Steve Bruce never received one cap.

Didn't he get a 'B' cap or something?

Don't undestand why he wasn't loaned back to Palace for the season.

Don't understand why he would be. He should be at the club so we can get a full assesment and he gets used to life at United. We can send him on loan in January but innitially the correct move is to have him at United IMO.

The solution is pretty simple. Sell Young, restrict Giggs game to the barely minimum and bring Jesse back. Nani-Valencia can be first teamer while Jesse, Januzaj and Zaha will get ample games as their cover.

That's not enough as Nani could get injured, it's all good to have talent but there is always a reason why coaches want a certain number of experienced players in the team. I'm not saying Young is good in that role just to be clear.Moyes will never take that sort of risk for the moment.

Would that be an issue though? We've currently have Nani and Valencia as first teamers, Zaha, Jesse and Januzaj as cover + Welbeck and Kagawa can play on the flanks. Giggs is still around till the end of the season. 8 players for 2 roles. You can win things with kids.

I don't think it would be an issue but then again coaches have their reasons and sometimes they baffle us fans.

I know it is caf sin to have an opinion on a player you haven't seen for at least 6 years, but I'm not that convinced by Zaha myself. Because of this, I have not been surprised that Moyes hasn't been convicted either.

He doesn't strike me as a natural footballer, he seems like an athletic kid but not as talented as the ideas he has. He seems to be trying to emulate great players he grew up watching, but 90% of these tricks are both uneccessary and also unsuccessful.

Adnan looks a different level technically, it isn't just experience. Tom Ince also looks far more a natural footballer to me.

Okay.

Wonder why he isn't playing for the first team. He looked good tonight. There is still a bit of a naivety to his game, an inappropriate backheel at times that doesn't come off, or one stepover too many, but Büttner is doing those things in our own half ffs! I hope he at least plays in the League Cup game against Norwich.

Reading he slept with Moyes' daughter, any truth to this?
