Was he that talented to begin with ? Never in a single match that I watched from him, I thought "he has the potential to become some player".
Yeah I agree, and I think it's just a narrative people like to run with when other variables that aren't relevant to the football pitch come into play. Ravel Morrison and Mario Balotelli are similar, although the latter is obviously far better but still gets labelled with this untapped potential that will make him a Ballon D'Or winner but will struggle to reach it because he's a bit naughty. Same sort of thing happens with players who continuously get injured.

Not arsed in the slightest if he leaves. Getting the poor attitudes out of the club is important while the confidence is low amongst the squad.

The match day thread for the play-off final which he bossed was full of the  smiley. I even distinctly remember a Ronaldo comparison.

He was very good in Palace's promotion season. A little inconsistent, but what young player isn't?

Zaha free to leave, Valencia given new contract. fecking disaster. I'm seriously fecking fuming with some of the decisions this club makes, we only have our selves to blame for the position we're in.
Agree. Not sure what is going on behind the scenes, but he is being treated like shit. Last night was the perfect game for him to get a chance, but he was on the bench the whole night. If it's his attitude, then he is wasting away his career.

Good riddance. Was a ridiculous signing, in my opinion. Was completely overrated in the Championship and getting those England caps was an absolute joke. I personally never saw anything whatsoever in this lad.

I'll sound very harsh but any performance from any player at levels below the top leagues is just not enough for me to be excited over.

I think Zaha would have insisted on this clause as well. If United say "we belive in you and want you back" he is simply not going to sign a contract for them. If he still wants to leave then fair enough. I don't see a problem with the clause.

He's hardly going to turn us down if we offer to keep him after a good loan spell. It's more of a security for the loaning club who know they could sign him for a fixed fee if they are happy with him and he's happy with them. I think he will never play for United again.

Got to be a loan, he seems to have alot of attributes that 'could' make him a really decent player, if it all comes together and we have flogged him we will look like right chumps.

Plenty more players needed to be flogged before him, rather see him loaned to somewhere like Everton, or Sunderland though.

Glad we gave him a real chance while he was here.

He got his chance, went to Cardiff and he was benched there. If he's benched at Cardiff because of his attitude how can he be good enough for Manchester United.

You cant compare Cardiff last season (or any season) to Man Utd, so I wont. Playing there is a totally different ball game than United, clubs battling relegation are rarely going to give Zaha-type players the chance to shine. He never got his chance here. Couple that with a manager totally unproven at any decent level and it isnt the ideal basis for Zaha to impress.

And his attitude? So much of his 'bad' attitude is alleged. I happen to know Zaha (admittedly while he was in London) and he is a bit flashy, yes. He does have his faults but he loves football and he wanted to make it at United so badly. Again I'll admit he has slipped up while hes been at United. Being late is never going to sit well with anybody and it is a little unprofessional but we have had players do similar before (and worse) and still get chances in the first team. Whatever mistakes Zaha has made Id say were more down to clumsiness rather than bad attitude. But that is just my opinion.

I dont know if he would've made it given the chance, but I will say he showed enough promise at Palace to actually get a chance. We can go in circles here and I doubt either of us will say anything that hasn't been said before. So I'll leave it at that. Wish him luck at Palace and hope he can really press on with his career there.

How can you possibly call him a waste of space when he hasn't been given a single chance? Even if it's true, the fact that we keep this dreadful excuse of a 'winger' whilst selling a decent young promising winger is what makes my blood boil.
I've seen plenty of him whether for Palace or the U21's, never was or will be good enough and I'm certain of that. Never was that talented to begin with.

I thought it was a stupid signing at the time to be honest. Maybe he'll make something of himself in the end who knows, but just looks like another overrated young English winger who will fade into the wilderness to me.

He was a gamble. A project - albeit an costly one.

Ferguson once bought a young player with a bag of tricks and saw him turn into the worlds best and most expensive player. The fact is Ronaldo was a machine that would have made it anywhere. He has since tried it twice more with Nani and Zaha and it hasn't turned out the same, but then it wouldn't because I don't think those two players have either the desire or the football brain to replicate what Ronaldo became.

I can't see Zaha ever being a United player. Hopefully he'll have a good season on loan and we can recoup most of our outlay.

You can probably add Obertan and Bebe to that list. It's funny the way they all have so many superficial similarities to Ronaldo. Tall, athletic, quick, great physique, two-footed, fond of a trick - especially chopping the ball back inside (no idea if that skill has a name but you know what I mean).

It's all the other, more important, stuff where they differ dramatically.

He also tried it with Bebe and Obertan, they just cost us way less.

Doubt he'll play for us again. Unless it's pre-season next summer when we are forced to take him back due to an underwhelming loan spell and we can't shift him.

Otherwise, he'll do okay and we'll be forced to accept much less then we want (like £3m or something) just to cut ties.

When I said he wasn't good enough when we signed him I got slated for it, despite actually having seen him play (unlike the vast majority here). I'd love to see how many people have changed there tune now.

He'll make a good mid table winger eventually, but nothing more. Looked above his level in the championship because he was surrounded by a good team (for there level) and had a ton of pace. Pacy wingers generally do well in the championship and get found out in the prem (if that's their only real asset), Ince is a good example.

We've made £3m in loan fees off him already. Cardiff paid us a loan fee of £1.5m plus 100% of his wages. Crazy that we could actually make a decent profit on him despite Zaha doing feck all for a couple of years.
Cool, just need him to loan out for 6 more years to break even :D

I'm a little disappointed for him. He had a great opportunity but something's not quite right with his mentality for a top club. Maybe he can start performing and take another step up again in the future? But for now he isn't going to push our first team and is better off elsewhere. We never really saw what he could do out there on the pitch.

selling him could well haunt us, if he does the progress all expect him to do he'll join Arsenal in 2-3 season. I think a loan move without buying clause should be the way for us.

There could be a buying clause but no price stipulated - i.e. the price would be negotiated on the basis of his performances while on loan.

Chelsea are the masters of buying cheap, farming them out, earning loan fees and then selling on for a massive fee tactic, this season they nearly have as many players on loan as they do in their playing squad, ridiculous.

Yeah that's why I said 8 more loans and we will have his money back. the Cardiff loan was £1.5 that's 10% the Palace loan is £1.5 that's 10% eight more 10%'s and we will be at 100%.

Great news. Hopefully he can turn his career around but I think he needs to sort out his attitude first. Win win situation for us.
