Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

I still believe that the one thing that lets him down is his attitude, rather than his ability.

People have to remember that Zaha is still the exact same player that we bought from Crystal Palace a year ago.

And he isn't any more mature or better as a footballer since then simply due to how little football he's played over the past 12 months. We should loaned him straight back to Cystal Palace for the season where he would of had first team football for a whole Premier League campaign. Instead of playing him in the reserves and then sending him to Cardiff in January.

Good move for him. Lets see how he does with regular game time at this level.

Won't exactly surprise me if he becomes a very good player in the future actually. Bloody tough one to predict though as he could go downhill as well.

We are offloading wing options quick though. Doesn't seem to suggest a shift to a formation using them.

Looks like it, what a pointless signing... Have to wonder about Ferguson's judgement later on in his career... Bebe, Obertan, Tosic, Powell, Zaha...

Bebe, Obertan were punt signings. Tosic similar and we made a profit on him and slight loss on Obertan.

Powell is a pretty good talent and one we should keep.

On Zaha it's bit unfair to blame him for as he didn't get to work with him and he is still young and talented though raw. His attitude is rumored to be poor and maybe SAF could have sorted it out. Certainly he would have gotten more chances under SAF than he did under Moyes and now LVG.

And he did make other signings in that period.

People like to blame SAF in recent times, you've explained it perfectly. At the time the reactions were very different, this is just talking afterwards.

TBF Zaha did play a pivotal when CPFC were promoted. Who would have thought he wouldnt have kicked on from it

Thank God for that, he hasn't impressed me at all. I even strongly dislike his twitter name!!

There's no way of telling how he could have turned out if SAF didn't retire right after signing him, and actually worked on him like he did with so many young players over the years. It's too bad it didn't work out but under the circumstances it's probably better for him to leave than warm the bench as he clearly does not fit in LVG's plans.

How many games did he play for you?

I can't even remember seeing him on your bench at all.

I thought we were the club that spunked huge dosh on youngsters, never played them then sent them on loan. That's OUR thing.

Well SAF bought him, then retired, Moyes wasn't impressed by Zaha so loaned him to Cardiff and even then he couldn't make their starting 11!

Did he actually bang Moyes' daughter or was that total bollocks?

Made up Rumor of social media. Moyes was said to be unimpressed by his attitude though.

He has just made 2 appearances for us which is a bit ludicrous given his age after a 10 million rising to 15 move but that's what happens when you change whole regimes quick.

I think Moyes didn't handle him as well as he could tbh. It's not like he is the first young player we have gotten with a less than perfect attitude. LVG is arguably doing the same. Reactions both have gotten are in stark contrast though.

It's a shame his attitude allegedly didn't match his potential. I think there's definitely something about this lad, but I doubt we'll ever see the application. I'm sure he'll have some good moments in his career, but I believe he had the talent to make it at a top club if he really gave it everything.

Zaha free to leave, Valencia given new contract. fecking disaster. I'm seriously fecking fuming with some of the decisions this club makes, we only have our selves to blame for the position we're in.

I think Valencia will be more a right back though personally.

He's a god awful right back, he cost us 9-12 points last year by playing in that position. Just because he's big and fast doesn't make him a good defender.

I think he'll be top 4 standard eventually. For me the uncertainty is the time frame involved. Not sure we can wait around for players who might be good enough when they are 27. At the moment his decision making in the final third is poor.

Agree totally about Valencia but Zaha is an absolute waste of space. Would love to see the both of them gone.
How can you possibly call him a waste of space when he hasn't been given a single chance? Even if it's true, the fact that we keep this dreadful excuse of a 'winger' whilst selling a decent young promising winger is what makes my blood boil.

He was obviously gonna go out on loan. Don't like the idea of this permanent option though unless it's pretty high.

They'll buy him if he does well anyway, and if doesn't do well he'll probably return. So what changes for us ?

We could have loaned him to QPR without a buy option instead or to many other clubs interested.

We should have loaned him out tbh, without this buy option thing.

His last loan was at a sinking ship and he wasn't allowed to be inconsistent there even. He did badly but he is the type of player right now whose high risk high reward. Goes from very good few games to really poor next.

Agree. I would have loaned him out for the next 2 seasons before making a judgement on whether he might make it at United. His wages won't be frightening and surely we could get a modest loan fee on top.

I think Zaha would have insisted on this clause as well. If United say "we belive in you and want you back" he is simply not going to sign a contract for them. If he still wants to leave then fair enough. I don't see a problem with the clause.

What was the actual fee for him? People are very quick to go "15m well spent..." but i'd imagine a lot was add ons.
