Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

Admittedly, I haven't watched him that much, but I struggle to see what attributes he has that are so great that they make up for his abysmal work rate and defensive lapses. His dribbling is erratic at best, and I even think he looks a little sluggish at times. He may turn out a great player, but I fail to see how at the moment.

Being the difference between the teams in the playoffs is achieving nothing huh?

It's the way the game has gone I'm afraid. There's old pros from the 80's and early 90's that worked far harder in their playing careers and do you know where they are now? They're driving taxis, delivering mail, working in shops. They must be disgusted seeing young players get massive contracts thrown at them.

This thread was bumped after a specific performance in which Zaha was demonstrably lazy. That's not a media agenda. That's just highlighting a young player who is supposed to be fighting for a place at Manchester United not working as hard as other young players in a club at the bottom of the table. Nothing to do with him not being "the complete package" and everything to do with him not putting in the effort he should be. It's really disappointing and doesn't bode well for his future career. Also confirms what his previous managers have alluded to, he's a very talented young player who just isn't working hard enough to be the best he can be.

Its hard to say that its not a media agenda given how Zaha has been profiled from the media during his time at Utd. It would be like saying the sacking of DM didn't have a media agenda and was just cause he was rubbish. Think how they portrayed him had some (little perhaps) bearing on it. Its ridiculous to say its not a media agenda when 90% of our information comes via that source. Are you suggesting that MOTD couldn't have highlighted other players that are supposedly lazy. Yep, managers are probably right he could work harder but if you asked them of an appraisal of most young players, they would suggest he doesn't concentrate enough, his decision making is poor.....Its like stating the obvious. Unfortunately on forums we have to surmise or make assumptions because in reality aside from our own informed opinions (cant say I've watched too many Cardiff games), we have to rely on the media to tell us the rest given most of the time we've watched players its the highlights the media want to show us anyway.....

Its funny cause I never read anything about how rubbish he was or lazy for that matter when he was on tour last year, in fact it was quite the opposite with most suggesting he'd be pushing for a first team start.

Are we really going to reject another talented young player based on attitude and temperament? Is it possible that we have a problem in how we develop and prepare these young men to be part of the first team? Perhaps we are not working in the right ways to develop them enough as people and deal with the mental and psychological aspects of success and stardom and pressure.

Then, when problems arise, we ship them out and blame their temperament for not being "right for United".

How on earth can a club that, by law, can only work with children for a limited amount of hours per week really shape and determine the behaviour of a young person? I can only assume you're hinting at Ravel Morrison, who was a troubled child, one who presumably had many more important figures of authority in his life, namely his parents, family and teachers throughout school. Yet, he, by more than football standards, had a bad attitude. He was quite rightly let go as a result of his later inability to turn up to training on time. In the grand scheme of things, a football club has little responsibility in the upbringing of children and their issues throughout their childhoods. They're not given the access.

As for Zaha, I'm not really seeing what the club has done wrong? I've previously stated that I'd like to see him given an opportunity to sort his United career out, however, there's only so much can be done. If Zaha really is just walking about the pitch for a relegation - threatened Cardiff, what more can be said or done? "Run Wilf, run,!" It's all up to him at this point, he's a big lad.

Is going to go the same way, he deserves atleast one, then there will be an excuse to give him more than one and before you know it, he'll be here for 4 or 5 years and been useless.
Haha this is a big thing for me. Fergie became really soft at the end. If it were any other club half of this lot would have been shipped out by now.

As for Zaha I hope he gets a chance and does good but I if he doesn't buck up I'd happily send him packing. He is a gobshite just like Ravel with only half the talent. He has shown bright sparks but so have tons of other young players. When you get into fights with teammates in the middle of a match and can't show up for a reserve match on time then I don't have much time for you.

Anybody see the analysis on him on MOTD2 last night?

I know they can hand-pick the clips, but Frazier Campell busting a gut to run the length of the pitch while Zaha stood and watched him was ridiculous.

exactly. that was pathetic. the only time he chased the ball down was when he lost it, multiple times.

Looks shopped to me. Some of the pixels look weird and surely when wearing such tight pants it would squash your cock down the side of one leg.

It's another awful article from Goal. We won't take £5 million for someone who has the potential to become a very good player. We definitely won't sell him. Development isn't linear and it's better than he learns to apply himself more now. Moyes was right to not play him more and there were indications, such as Phil Neville's comments and even Januzaj playing in the Premier League for us before Zaha did, regarding his work ethic IMO. You also have comments like the ones below (the first by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the second by Ian Holloway):
He is one of the best I have seen with the ball. He has quick feet and is brave like Cristiano and wants to go forward.

“But he has got to make a decision about how good does he want to be and how much does he love this game. He can grow up to become a proper player like Ronaldo if he wants.

“I have never seen anyone work as hard as Ronaldo. Before training, after training, he was an exceptionally dedicated man and proved to everyone what dedication gets you.

“I am not afraid of using Sir Alex Ferguson or Cristiano as an example when I have to because to get the best out of your talent you need to be dedicated.

"And that's why I have his best intentions at heart when I say the time has come for him to take stock of his life and career and grow up a little bit.

"Because, believe me, there is nothing more tragic than unfulfilled potential."

That, however, doesn't excuse Moyes' decision to bring him on against Newcastle. Of course if he had scored then we would be congratulating Moyes and Zaha, but I don't think that's the sort of environment that suits a player who is still adjusting to playing at a big club. He was clearly nervous. Yeah Macheda scored against Aston Villa and even Will Keane came close to scoring on his début, but these players were in good form when they were called up. Zaha has the potential to become a good player, IMO. The next step is to show a better work ethic and attitude, so much so that Phil Neville (if he stays) will be assiduous in talking about the improvement he has made in training.

You're actually criticizing Moyes for giving him some minutes in the league? Either he needs minutes or he doesn't, too many people are making excuses for this guy. He's done absolutely zero to prove himself. He did well in the third tier of English Football but he's 21 now and it's time to grow up. Until he's actually showed his coaches and manager he is good enough to play and then starts to show what he is capable of then I will have no time for him. You only have to look at Januzaj and the hundreds before him that prove that if you have the talent and work ethic you will make it at this club.

I am blaming Moyes for bringing him on in an environment that doesn't suit his mentality. At the time, he looked mentally fragile (and probably still is). The best way to introduce Zaha is by bringing him on when we're winning and see how well he does then, like against Aston Villa. We are more or less making the same point, though I have blamed Moyes for a "small" aspect of Zaha's time here with us. It's his lack of application in training that has led to him not getting many games and I also cite comments from two managers who back that claim up, so no I don't think he's blameless.

Zaha's had a little dig at Moyes this morning, but he sounds determined to return to United and give it a proper go.

Wilfried Zaha believes that former Manchester United boss David Moyes did not trust him enough to give him a chance in the first team at Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old, who signed from Crystal Palace in January last year, stayed on loan at Selhurst Park until the end of the season before linking up with the United squad and their new manager.

Having managed just four appearances for Moyes' side, Zaha made a January loan switch to Cardiff City in a bid to play regular Premier League football, but has often found himself used as a substitute.

Zaha admits that the change in managers at United came as a bit of a shock, but says he did not get enough opportunities to prove himself.

"I signed for Sir Alex Ferguson and expected him to be the manager," he told The Sun.

"David Moyes arrived and obviously felt - in general - he had to play older players.

"For some games I was not even on the bench. That was tough, very frustrating. You need the manager to trust you and that was not the case.

"Raheem Sterling went through a tough period at Liverpool and there was talk of him going out on loan. But Brendan Rodgers trusted him and he was allowed to get that experience and pull through."

However, Zaha is desperate to prove himself at Old Trafford and says that he will do everything he can to impress upon his return.

"I hope to still have a future there. I will go in for pre-season and give my best. Had the manager stayed, I'm not sure that would be the case," he said.

"I have four years left on my contract at United. Had Moyes stayed I would have had to think about some other options.

"I will benefit from this tough year. Everything cannot go right all of the time."

The winger was also keen to put to bed some of the rumours which circulated as to why he had been cast aside at Old Trafford.

"Everyone was thinking 'how has he come from Palace to not play?' People thought I had a bad attitude," he said.

"There were rumours about Moyes' daughter from Twitter. It was weird. I was getting tortured for something I hadn't done. I hadn't even met her. That is why Twitter can be such a negative thing.

"Obviously the season did not go too well for Moyes. Some people have asked if I was happy he is no longer there but of course I am not.

"I don't want to see anyone get sacked."

What he hasn't asked himself is why Moyes didn't trust him enough to play him. Moyes saw him every day in training, maybe that's why.

As for Van Gaal, Zaha is a million miles away from the profile of a Van Gaal winger.

Good interview, lets give the lad a chance next season. He is obviously hungry for success and he has the talent to make it here. If he is still bad under Van Gaal then we can sell him.

Oh boy.

It's all Moyes fault obviously, nothing wrong with Zaha.

Fact that he can't even break into starting eleven at fecking Cardiff is Moyes fault as well, poor lad.

We'll probably never know who was at fault, if anyone. May be just a case of him not being good enough yet. Or maybe Zaha just fannied about, as some have suggested.

Regardless, I still want him to be given a chance before we cast him aside. There is a great deal of talent there, though he just doesn't seem to know how to use it.

He's not been good enough to start for Cardiff and does not deserve a chance in our team next season. Awful attitude.

At least now we know he didn't shag Moyes's daughter.Poor lad.

Can we do a swap deal Zaha + money for Daehli?

Actually, he was second tier PotY last season.

He's rubbish both in his football and his attitude. Palace have conned us for £15m.

He been awful at Cardiff and from where I stand his attitude leaves a lot to be desired. I doubt he'll leave this year but he'll need to seriously up his game if he wants to make it here.

Zaha obviously has talent, he showed that at Palace last year and did well in our pre-season, but his mentality seems to be letting him down at the minute.

Some of the comments...

How about we give him a little more time? Yeah he's been disappointing but he obviously has talent. I'm sure he's aware of how big of a chance he has been given at Manchester United.

Everyone in our squad is shit nowadays.
