Wilfried Zaha - Sold to Crystal Palace

Despite all the negativity on here I bet most teams in the league would take him on a longer term deal, where its worth it for them playing him every week and working on his weak areas. Ultimately Cardiff know that they're better off doing that for Daehli than Zaha as even if Zaha improves they'll have to send him back to us

For this reason it'd be worth involving him in any bids for the likes of Shaw, Barkley or whoever else we might want as a long term project from a domestic side. Money + Zaha for them to develop and if it works out they'll have another expensive player to sell.

Though he hasn't impressed on loan at Cardiff (Shearer was right about him on MOTD), I still think it's a bad idea just to get shot of him after one terrible season under Moyes. Just cos SAF bought some duds in the past, like most managers, doesn't mean Zaha is the same.

I would give him another season to prove himself under someone like Van Gaal and let him decide if he's good enough for the club or not. We've let a few players go in the past who went to do good things elsewhere and it would be silly to do the same after such a big investment.

Zaha will be giving another season, Moyes must of not liked him because he likes to express himself with his football by skills and all sorts. So ill reckon Van Gaal(if he is appointed) will look into him, he's got the potential so he should have a chance next season, but if he doesnt improve then he'll be sold for sure.

He's been expressing extreme shitness for Cardiff, so there won't be much for LVG to look into!

His attitude seems to be a major issue, really needs to fix that if was to stand any chance in making it here, or in the Premier League even.

Well when he was crystal palace it was a different story. He completely dicked united single handily the other season in the capitol one cup and was the guy that promoted crystal palace into premier league. One bad season, doesnt mean you should condemn them immediately. One more season, if he cant hack it then he'll defiently be sold. If united gives Nani x100 chances to prove himself then it wont hurt to give this lad one last chance to redeem himself a poor season.

If we decided to get rid of him this summer, what would we get for him?
Somewhere between 5m and 10m is my guess.

He has 7 players at the club in front of him and they all have something over him, whether it's experience, talent, work-rate or reliability. So whatever happens long term I think another loan is his only option next season.

Come on guys, Arsenal wanted this guy.

It just needs a experienced decent manager, which isn't Ole or Moyes.

Remember when Bale went to Spurs and he was shit for two seasons. Everyone writing him off. I think he deserves another season.

There's a certain player in our squad you often call a toiletbrush that was wanted by Arsenal as well. :smirk:

Seriously though, doubt many are writing him off already, it's just people being genuinely irritated with his shite attitude, something that's probably the toughest trait to fix.

Another £15m completley wasted.
Maybe not. He was mustard at Palace in their promotion season. He's got the talent all right so maybe all that's needed is the right coach. Be a shame to write him off before he's had a chance to show us what he can do. As another poster said, Nani has had a multitude of chances so this lad at least deserves one.

Didn't saw him in United too much but he had quite okayish pre-season games. Huge mistake was not loaning him back to Crystal Palace where he had wonderful chemistry with old mates such as Jedinak, Bolasie and few others.

At some point I would rather see him more on the pitch than Young who had so many chances in the past to prove something plus Wilfie has indeed potential and braveness to become quality winger.

He hasnt been all bad at Cardiff in recent months, he's had a few decent performances but mostly from the bench. He just hasnt put in any performances that would book him a ticket into United's first team. The main problem he has is when he goes for a dribble, goes past a player or two and then someone tackles him so Cardiff dont gain too much from it. He needs to be a bit more aware of when he's done something good and then not push it so much. Just lay the ball off to someone else now he's made ground.

I blame Holloway for all of this, apparently he was allowed run amok while at Palace. Little wonder he has a big time charlie attitude.

Holloway did what was best for his club, and he didn't force us to stump up all that money for Zaha.
Blame whoever's job it was at United to character profile our targets.

Does he take the path marked "Ronaldo" or the one marked "Quaresma"?*

He'll be bloody lucky if he even ends up as half as good as Quaresma was. Quaresma was an incredibly gifted player who just never shone and failed when he made the big move but was class during certain spells of his career. All Zaha has is performing good at the Championship and failing at the next higher level of football which is the Premier League.

Anybody see the analysis on him on MOTD2 last night?

I know they can hand-pick the clips, but Frazier Campell busting a gut to run the length of the pitch while Zaha stood and watched him was ridiculous.

That's why the thread was bumped.

I think you can excuse a young player from having a dip in form (even one as lengthy as Zaha this season) but when he's not even trying...

Is going to go the same way, he deserves atleast one, then there will be an excuse to give him more than one and before you know it, he'll be here for 4 or 5 years and been useless.

Shearer slated him, rightfully too.

I really can't see him ever making it. Issues with attitude, commitment and consistency. He's not a teenager anymore and he needs to pull his finger sharpish out or he'll end up like Morrison - obvious talent but too flawed to make it at a top club.

I've slated him numerous times and I'll continue to do so. He's utterly useless. I don't know what potential people are seeing, but even if it exists (it bloody doesn't), he doesn't have anything near the commitment required to realize said potential.
Agree totally. Absolutely worthless.

Remember after pre season I told my non United fan mates to keep an eye on Zaha and Januzaj. Suppose was right about Januzaj, but Zaha? Not sure what happened. Was annoyed about his lack of chances he had at United with Young and Valencia's poor form. But now he's at Cardiff, I'm just doubting he will make it now. Really hope he does but worried this will be one of Fergies poorest transfers.

I'm not sure this is a poor Fergie transfer though. The talent is certainly there. But it's not just the buying teams responsibility to make a transfer work out well. The player needs to do his bit too.

Yeh but the player's mentality should have been assessed when we bought him. If he has a bad work ethic, then that was poor by the scouts for not picking up on this. Surprising as I hear one thing that SAF assesses when buying a player is if he has a United mentality.

Yes thats true. We also monitored him a long time as the first time we were linked with him was when we played Palace in the cup and he was 18-19 at the time. No doubt we scouted then as we looked at the opposition, then the seasons after as we maintained our interest. It will be strange if it turns out in all that time we didn't realise he wont work hard to improve

Join the club. I don't see this ability people are seeing. Every player plays a decent through-ball assist every now and then. And his dribbling (supposedly his main asset) and control is not on Oxlade Chamberlain, Sterling or even Redmond's level.

Zaha has all the tools to make it at United, but someone needs to tell him to lose the bad attitude, otherwise his career will go down the drain. Hopefully he will get another season at United under a good manager who will give him confidence and help him lose the attitude.

I believe Van Gaal will give him a chance. He likes to promote Zaha and despite what most think, the raw talent is definitely there. At this stage though, he's just another Bebe, good pace, good strength and can beat a man but a lack of technical ability and footballing brain is holding them back.

I think LVG will evaluate both in pre-season and measure it from there. Most likely Bebe will be sold but he's surprised a lot of people this season and there's even calls for him to be in the Portugal squad for the world cup which would be a big achievement for him.

If Bebe makes the world cup, I'll cry tears of joy.

I think Bebe has a better chance of making it than he does.

Crazy to think that a thread about a player can get to 120+ pages when he hasn't really achieved anything in his career.

Giving someone like this £35,000 a week before they've earned it can't be good for their work ethic. Coming from the background he does, I'd imagine he's just happy driving around in his expensive car thinking he's made it.
