Given what Ole and Olly have said about him, I think it's clear that he's very talented. There must be reasons that are holding him back, but I doubt talent is one of them.

Usually when you pay over a certain amount of money, you have plans to play the player and ultimately believe that it's just one or two things that need ironing out.

I think it's likely SAF was planning on giving him the "Stay off social media, work on your defense with us; you're probably looking at 25-30 apps this first season and we'll go from there," approach. Give him suitable motivation to start to conduct himself more professionally. Problem instantly solved.

One can claim it's Moyes' style to "come down hard" on things he disapproves of. One person's disciplinarian is another person's abysmal man-manager and all that.

Nice little story but plucked out your arse, to be fair. Can you think of any other young footballer Fergue gave games to in return for staying off social media.

In answer to assorted gibbons on the previous page who seem stunned at the idea that we'd be several points worse off if he'd played as many minutes for us as Valencia has this season I would suggest you watch his next few games.

That's not a 'deal' with the player. I doubt many posters with social skills above a certain level will have thought of that as SAF bartering with a player instead of recognizing it for the motivational trick that it is.

Long story short it's a trick that works with particular types of ego/big talent personalities. Being given direction/discipline from a highly respected figure can give them an avenue of self-validation other than the 'Ohmigod you're so amazing' that they've coasted through life on. It's a fairly commonly used motivational tool.

I don't even know what you're suggesting now. Something about being strict and not pandering to his ego? (Which is exactly what seems to have happened?)

Anyway, it's a safe bet Moyes comes out of it badly in this entirely hypothetical scenario you've come up with. Which was probably your main intention.

It's from a couple of years ago, but yeah, he's some chancer.

I'm guessing it's something like this...

Just watched the highlights of the game and looks like Zaha had a very good game, against a championship team but still.

I thought he was very good. He's one of those players that looks amazing one minute then dogshit the next. Wouldn't be the first young player to show a bit of inconsistency I know, but to me he seems to go from one extreme to the other more than most players. An exciting prospect for us though. Perfect loan for him.

He'd wanna have a massive sexual organ to get away with not splashing the cash....Although I get the impression the greedy tosser always goes on bottom and cries out "Zaha forever!" when he orgasms...In a Tarzan voice
That'd be an awfully odd thing for Adnan to do.

Then again....... they might be the perfect couple. Zaha'd be delighted to save the money, and Januzaj'd be delighted to go to Nandos, win-win.

Considering it is a bobbins excuse for a holiday anyway I would say that £170 for dinner and pressie plus an extra £250 then on a hotel room. isn't exactly being tight.

£420, jesus.

He's a millionaire!! He should be gifting her chocolate statues of himself to her......Or him. Whatever he's into

Didn't come off the bench yesterday and hauled off after the first 45 in the game before that. Unfortunately, not looking too bright for him at the moment.

FFS Moyes not giving Zaha a chance, look at him tearing it up at Cardiff!!

Wait, what?

Zaha better than Valencia/Young etc etc. He can't even get ahead of the Cardiff wingers. Laughable how people who don't even see the players in training think they know better than Moyes who sees the player 7 days a week.

Moyes has got many things wrong this sesson, but not playing Zaha isn't one of them. It doesn't surprise me he isn't playing for Cardiff, and he hasn't impressed me all that much from the moment he signed.

His non-selection was used as another stick to beat Moyes with by Moyes Out brigade, despite Zaha not showing anything substantial evidence to get a regular chance in the first team.

Spot on - this drives me nuts.
It was the same with Fabio

It's not looking very good if he can't get into that Cardiff team. The couple of times I saw him play he was shocking; nowhere near ready. What are we going to do with him? I'd send him out on loan again next season.

Possibly the next Macheda, permanently out on loan? I'd say let's just cut our losses and move him on. I strongly believe Moyes would never have signed him in the first place and I very much doubt he'll improve enough to make our squad. I'd be surprised if any PL club took him on, most likely it'd be back to the Championship.

First season in the prem, coming from a 'big fish' situation to not being played at all and being subsequently loaned out to a team that would require divine intervention to stay in the league and somehow people have decided that Zaha will never make it.
His confidence is obviously shot. He's young, he can't be relied upon to save a team from relegation either.

Yeah, that was fecking nuts. A whole lot of bollox talked about Zaha in the early parts of this season.

It's a shame he's struggling with the step up to PL football. Here's hoping he puts it all down to experience and doesn't get too discouraged. He's got so much potential.

Taking the piss?
Not at all. If he can't even get into a team struggling along at the bottom of the Premier League it's not the greatest advert for him is it?

Clearly the rumours coming out of Carrington were true - he simply wasn't learning and developing in the way the coaches expected. I'd be very surprised if we ever see him wearing a Man Utd shirt again.

I don't agree that the circumstances with Fabio were the same given we've all seen exactly how good Fabio can be when given a run in the side.
