Why are we not in for Hernandez ?

I would love to see him back. I think he still can score goals in old fashioned way. In the sense that if we were creating decent chances he is very likely to score. He would not give you much apart from that, if thats what the club wants.
But then at his age, coming to Utd would be a problem. West Ham or any mid-table clubs could guarantee him continuous starts. We cant. I would wish him all the best and hope he does well

I think Jose would love to have him serve the Solskjaer role for this club, and I'd venture to say Javier wouldn't be averse to it at all either. He genuinely loves this club, worships Sir Alex and stays in contact with his former teammates here, and the respect Jose has for him is certainly mutual.

But there's a significant problem from his end: next summer's World Cup. He needs as much gametime as possible so as not to lose his place in Mexico's starting XI. Unfortunately, that means he might just end up at a club like West Ham.

It's a shame. I think he'd be outstanding coming off the bench for us.

He isn't good enough to start for us and he isnt interested to stay on the bench.

He gives nothing other than goals. Which is important but many teams want their main forward to be more involved in their attack. Which chicharito wouldn't be. He has 28 league goals in 54 games for Leverkusen yet they want to sell him. Says it all.

He left because he didn't want to be a benchwarmer and it's unlikely he will be anymore than that even now

Loved his contribution 1st time around and the way he played with a smile on his face but he's just not 'complete' enough a player for our requirements. We need to be looking elsewhere.

Any role he would play for the club, Rashford could play better.
Except...the scoring goals part where he had already out scored Rashford in his first two United seasons

Edit:

Beaten to the punch. Because it's obvious af

That said I am over Chicharito...I'd rather us try another option

Not good enough to start.

Not content to be a back-up.

So pretty much a no-go imo.

By the looks of it Javier Hernandez is off to West Ham for £12-£13 million which for a proven goal scorer at the highest level who's approaching or in his peak years is next to nothing so given our known finishing problems and given that Jose is a known fan why are we not in for him if only to add some depth to a forward line that currently has one striker in a 19 year old Rashford.
If he hadn't have played for us before you wouldn't be advocating his signature.

'Don't get sentimental it always ends up drivel'

If he would accept a squad role but he left United because he wanted more for himself. I am happy for him and if he indeed joins West ham I might watch a few matches.

If we really wanted someone to come do a job in the last 15-30 minutes of matches for us Defoe would have probably been easier to convince . The chance at winning a premier league title would have been hard to turn down

Can't see us buying him for a squad role with Rashford and Martial waiting for minutes. He'd be good at a club like Everton or West Ham.

In case of Chicharito I think there are 2 factors in play: 1. Chicharito wants more gametime while for us we only want him as a super sub 2. Our youngsters needs gametime

Chicharito may edge our players, in this case Rashford in his instinct & experience. Other than that Rashford has room to match Chicharito style, while have room to improve past Chicharito's ability. Then Martial is different type of forward, but he does want his gametime. His stats involving with goal is decent. He just needs his game to be all rounded to rake in more minutes.

So for Chicharito to make a comeback, at least one of the above scenario has to work out. Either Chicharito is happy as bench player most of the time or we send our youngsters on loan. That's unrealistic

If it's one or the other, mourinho prefers team players over goalscorers up front. No way he'd take Hernandez

He wasn't good enough before and he certainly isn't good enough now.

Why are we not in for a player West ham are about to sign?

Have some of you forgotten how shit he was? Missed a couple of sitters and a pen in the UCL qualifier. When this guy is in a slump of a form it will take a long, long time till he regains his form. Last year at Leverkusen he didnt score a goal for more than 3 months(from 1st Oct to 28th Jan - 18games)

I would have signed Defoe and bought Hernandez back. Two PL goalscorers for £13m

OK they are not world beaters and not long-term solutions but what happens if Morata walks into OT and shatters his ankle first game? Proper f**ked aren't we!

Plus, I can't think of two better supersubs to bring off the bench when we need a goal

Probably because he's surplus to requirements at Bayer Leverkusen, and has a £13m buyout clause that anybody could activate, but nobody has.

For same reason he didn't quite cut it here. Loved him in patches, but it did fall away quickly. That being said we shouldn't have sold him. Absolutely no good reason for that. He would have been a star in the time he has been gone.

He did cut it here, surely? When we had a team that created chances he banged them in for fun.

He'd be my #1 striker next season with Rashford and Martial deputising.

Didn't Mourinho himself specifically say we'd have done better last season with Chicharito?
not exactly, he said that he wouldn't have sold him. Was basically blaming LVG for current mess.

Shows how much he believes that by fact he hasn't put bid in

He's not good enough! Was great for his first season but after that missed too many chances (admittedly he didn't play every week)

It's baffling the lust over such an average player, simply because I presume he played for us at one point and had a cheeky little face? He was dreadful towards the end here, and he's now older and even more average than when he left.

Hernandez would be the first ex player I'd bring back. A class act who loves the club and scores goals for fun. Should have NEVER been sold.

I don't think there's a football fan out there that doesn't like "The Little Pea" and if there is, they're probably cnuts.

Bring him back I say. He would add depth to our front line and could start games for us to take the pressure off Rashford.
Scores goals for fun? Give me a break..

I love him, and loved him even more when I was younger. But his record for Leverkusen last season was a pathetic 13 goals... Though the overall team was poor, thats not an excuse for a starter who had 36 apps.

I'd rather we give Rashford minutes honestly... If any reason I'd want him back is for his experience, but I highly doubt hes content being a bench player. Which is why he's most likely to join west ham. People keep forgetting its the world cup next year and players want to prove themselves to be starters in the world cup for their countrry. Thats why a player like Morata will be more hungry then ever, as he could possibly take Spain's starting position.

Thats definitely an influence on him wanting to leave...

Isn't he already a firmly established starter for Mexico?

I don't see how more guaranteed football would enhance or detract from that.

Well I for one am shocked that Jose wasn't telling the truth when he talked him up.

At 13m he's worth it. Send Rashford on loan and buy Chica + Morata.

Well I'm thankful that you are not the manager.

Defoe and Hernandez

Yeah let's stock up on average players.

He doesn't need to lead our attack he can be used to rest our new striker or come on and get us a goal in need. If we get Morata then on the bench we have Rashford and Rooney. Imagine Morata was injured we would have Rashford and Rooney to lead our line.
rather rashford than hernandez

He's presumably had enough of sitting on benches and fancies playing a few games before his retirement. I wouldn't be coming here in a million years at his age.

I imagine Jose would have plans for Chicharito - he speaks of him so highly. Doubt he would end up being a bench-warmer if he returned.

We desperately need to sign someone.. Some suggestions are really ridiculous.
