Who, with me, believes we can win the premier league?

We can beat City and we can beat Arsenal. Let’s fecking do it.

I think it's going to take huge injury luck. If we can somehow keep our first XI fit then we have a decent chance given how solid we are at the back when everyone plays. Martial also has to somehow stay fit as he offers a focal point and level of technicality/ball retention in attack that we simply don't get without him (regardless of everyone's complaints).

Stay fit and we have an outside chance.

I am really confident that we can go on a very consistent run if we're out of the EL and FA Cup early and get to play a game a week. Managers like Ten Hag produce consistency when they are given that time to prepare. I just don't think we have the squad to play in that many competitions.

To the inhalers!!!

Too soon. I can see us catching up Arsenal (if we can beat them). But City have such an immense squad that they normally pull away in the 2nd half of the season.

Too early for us. Still see Arsenal falling to bits and it'll be City's to take this season.

Ten Haag isn't turning this shitshow around in less than a year, but that we're even talking about it shows how good he is. He's getting a tune out of Wan Bisaaka ffs.

Be patient and get behind the gaffer. Easily the best we've had in years.

(white text - will more than happily have you all take the piss out of me if we win it.)

If we get a guy like Harry Kane in the next 2 weeks or so, we have a good chance, otherwise, no.

Why are so many people convinced Arsenal will collapse when they’ve shown no signs of it at all? Usually you see the signs of it, where a team keeps getting favourable decisions, and scraping through games they should’ve lost. Arsenal have been convincing in their wins and look quality. I’m not saying it won’t happen, it just seems more like blind faith than anything. If you want to say “it’s Arsenal” and that historically they fold, well historically they also win titles.

I’d still expect City to win it, but I think it’ll be close.

Why - because they've done it quite a few times before

United were known as a team that started a bit slowly and were very strong in the second half of the season, Arsenal are team that often starts strong and fades away, a bit like Liverpool were until recently

I would be ecstatic if we could take 4 points from City & Arsenal, don't believe it's gonna happen but we could be within 6 of Arsenal with game in hand. Mind you that relies on Spurs getting something from them.

Knowing us we'll beat both arsenal and city then promptly lose to palace and Leeds.

The distance between Emirates Stadium and White Hart Lane Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a mere 4 miles.

I'm waiting until City/Arsenal/Barca results. When we face them recently we get shown up (even when we win) as to how far away we are. Those games will be a good measure of what more we need.

Yes and no. We could lose those two games and have our shortcomings all exposed for the world to see, but if we maintain our consistency that has been shown after the WC for the rest of the season, we could still very well win it. Both are unlikely though, I think we can get great results against both City and Arsenal, but will be pretty inconsistent when the schedule is super packed again.

The season will be a success if we beat barca. That the nicest scalp to take.
Sounds pretty small time I know

If we beat City at Old Trafford, go and get a result at Arsenal - then we are most definitely in with a shout. With this squad… I don’t think we’re ready. Need a striker, need one more top midfielder who can take Eriksen’s spot when he goes down. We’re incomplete to be winning it right now but top 4 likely.

This is our biggest issue. If we beat city and Arsenal we could surely dump the pointless Europa League then.

I will only believe we genuinely have any hope of winning the league IF we beat both City and Arsenal in the coming weeks AND also sign a decent striker.

We are bound to pick up injuries in the forward line and with only Martial who can play as a number 9 (looking a bit hit and miss at the moment), we will be in big trouble if he gets injured, which he regularly does. Rashford is so much more suited playing wide and having to play him as a number 9 weakens us massively, as he is our only consistent winger right now.

This is why it’s so important to get another elite striker if we want to win the league. I know it’s hard to sign players of elite quality in January and I know Joao Felix is more of a false 9 but he is technically brilliant and can chip in with a few goals. Getting him on loan till the end of the season to provide competition for Martial could be excellent business. He can also fill in for Bruno in the number 10 role if required, especially with Donny potentially being out for a while (hopefully nothing too serious!).

Exactly this.We definitely need another midfielder and a striker, however, we ain’t getting both in the January window. I’m extremely worried we may not end up with anyone, or we panic buy and do a repeat of when we signed Ighalo!

We definitely need to sign at least a striker if we want to even engage in a conversation about winning the league. Even if we beat both City and Arsenal.

We win more and more games we "should" win vs lesser teams, which is very encouraging to see and is a step in the right direction.

We are still at least a level or two below City, and what Arsenal seems to be this season.
Especially vs City, we need our A game to beat them, while they can have somewhat of an off game and still beat us.

If we manage to only get 0,1,2 points from the games against the two of them, the Caf will once again implode, talk about a false dawn, and call half our players not good enough.

The truth will always be in the middle.

We can win the league if many stars align our way, but it'll be a huge surprise.

Most of our squad has a history of buckling under pressure (top 4, semi finals, finals etc), the additions of serial winners in Varane, Licha and Casemiro will have helped but overall we're a little too green.

If City implode before Arsenal and we're only up against Arsenal our chances increase as they haven't got many winners in their team either, though their Cup win helps in that regard.

I think our group needs to win something this season to get that feeling then next season (Liverpoolism) we can expect to compete.

I don't think the squad would have the mentality needed if they ended up in a position to win the league.

That said, had we not lost to Villa and instead beaten them we'd be sitting second, only 6 points behind the leaders. So maybe?

You're bang on im afraid, out of the entire team i would say only the likes of varane, Martinez, casemiro and somewhat Eriksen have the mentality required to do so, hopefully we build on that step by step.

But the league leaders right now dont have a Harry Kane type up front. They get goals from everywhere and thats the key. We need Bruno, Sancho and Antony to chip in a lot more than they are.

Ya but Arsenal is set up different compare to United with players that have a different type of skillset. United will be much better with a Kane or Rooney type compare to Rashford and Martial. Especially Martial, who seems to be extremely sporadic and untrustworthy. Sancho has also been a huge bust but that young Argentina kid is making up for it. United should ship out Rashford, Martial asap before they decline in value, just like they did with Progba. United looking good though... Bruno/Erikson/Casa/Shaw all great and the reason they are winning. Certain players cannot lead clubs to titles. I said this about Saka at Arsenal as well(due to his shaky mentality in big moments) but luckily for them, their Nowegian star midfielder is leading them now.

Look at KDB and Haaland and look at guys like Rashford and Martial.. The talent gap is insane

I obviously do not mean to sell RASHFORD and MARTIAL now. That will be beyond idiotic. I mean sell when there is a chance of an upgrade.. There is no way United can lift a trophy with Marcus RASHFORD or Martial as the attackers. United is on the right track for sure.. Just get rid of a few more players during summer and bring in some attackers they are there.

 Yes, let's sell one of our best players! Genius!

Think I am going to put £20 on you guys, was going to put it on Newcastle.

We should sell our best attacking player and our only number 9?

OK.

Great to think about, but I cannot see this realistically. Even last night, ETH was not happy with aspects of the performance, and we are still v much work-in-progress.

I really worry about the depth of our squad, as injuries, suspension or loss of form in key players will really hurt us. We need to sort our No 9 situation, v v quickly, and continue to improve the quality in the squad.

Fred, McTominay, Sancho, Martial, Antony, Maguire, Lindolf... these players need to step up, quickly, or be prepared for the inevitable at some stage. We shouldn't hesitate in pursuing top quality players at Manchester United.

This is embarrassing. RAWKish behaviour this please banish this thread to the depths of abyss

woke up grinning like a cheshire cat. feels good to be in love with your team again :D

i used to pray for times like this, to rhyme like this

We were 50/1 at the weekend, now dropped to 20/1. Even the bookies know we are winning it.

They will stop taking bets on us after Caseimiro crushes City.

I did say to a friend of mine a few weeks back that we're not far off City in terms of points. Catch up with them and who knows what can happen...

He called me insane obviously.

IF....and it's a big IF...we can take 4pts from City and Arsenal then we are well and truly in the race.

We've largely been very good since Liverpool and we now have the added bonus of having gotten rid of the Portuguese albatross

City do not convince me at all. I think many of their players are right on the "tipping point" where "outstanding" turns to just "very good". When that happens in a few key positions at the same time, the overall impact on the team is huge.

Arsenal are the hot favourites for me. People keep expecting them to come back to the pack and they may well do as their squad is paper-thin...however, if they keep key players fit, they have a huge chance

No other team can win it, so it's nice to at least be in the picture come the NY!

If:

- We beat City and Arsenal in our next two games
- And Chelsea and Spurs get something from City and Arsenal in their next two

We’ll be at least a point ahead of City and 3-4 points off Arsenal. Individually none of this is impossible but altogether its unlikely. At that point though you’d have to say we’re in the race, though I think it’s too early to be saying that now.

To actually win it we’d need a lot to go our way:

- Varane, Casemiro, Bruno and Rashford have to remain fit until the end of the season and a couple of key players at City and Arsenal to get injured (Haaland, KDB, Partey, Saka or Odegaard)
- We need to get knocked out of the Europa and/or the FA cup pretty soon to reduce fixture congestion whilst hoping Arsenal and City go deep in their remaining cups and are thus distracted.
- Sign a striker in January who has an impact pretty well immediately.

Again all of this is unlikely, and as such we’d still be heavy underdogs even if the previous best case scenario were to pan out.

That being said there are things in our favour:

- Arsenal and City are still to play each other twice
- After the next two, our most challenging remaining fixtures are Liverpool, Spurs, Newcastle and Brighton away and Chelsea at home. We now look capable of winning all of the remainder if we can get something close to our best XI on the pitch consistently.

In summary I’d have us as long odds outsiders at this point, though by the end of January we might be dark horses. I think we’ll end up on around 80 points with injuries and fixture pile up derailing our momentum and finish a comfortable 3rd, but it’s nice to at least be able to dream again.
