Who, with me, believes we can win the premier league?

3 things need to happen:

1. Arsenal to choke again big time
2. Haaland, De Bruyne and Diaz get injured at the same time for a long period of time
3. Man Utd have to be on title winning form until end of the season winning the remaining 20 games and finish on 92 points

Not this season, but we're not that far from being able to do it next season. Get an effective striker and a few other useful signings and there's no reason we couldn't do it.

The first two games this season were kind of a fluke. It wasn't indicative of our actual level, and if we played those games today, we'd probably win them. In that scenario, we'd be in 2nd place with 38 points. While we can't go back in time and do it over, we can certainly say that it was an unusual situation with a new coach installing a whole new philosophy, unrest in the dressing room, uncertainty about many things surrounding the club, and so on. For that reason, I think those games only count in terms of the points, not in terms of where we are as a team. This means that for all intents and purposes, we could just as easily have been in 2nd place right now.

There is always a chance especially if you are 4th at this stage. I would put it at a 5% chance at this point.

Top four should be between Arsenal, City, Man United, Newcastle and Liverpool. Someone is going to miss out and I put our chance at top 4 around 40% right now.

Were winning it within the next 3 seasons. You can quote me on that.

I think we'd need to win 18 from 22 which is a big ask. Especially workout a reliable striker. I think 88-92pts could win it this season, not the 97+ that's been hit recently

Need both Arsenal and City to feck up big time. Arsenal maybe (but beginning to think they’ll actually win it), but can’t see City dropping loads of points and they’ll be putting pressure on for the remainder.

Saying that, we’re looking decent and I’m just really happy about that.

I dreamt of Harry Maguire in an Ann Summers neglige the other night. I don't normaly believe in the supernatural or anything like that but it was an odd dream to have.

Bleach. F-k. Bleach. Need to cleanse my mind.

It's very unlikely but if we really wanted to give it a proper go we'd need January investment which isn't gonna happen

That is a terrifying image, good grief.

I don't think Man United can win the league with a front line of Rasford and Martial. The mid field and defense is overall solid enough but Martial and Rashford need to go for the title to happen. Need a Harry Kane type, will be perfect for United.

Dirty run of fixtures coming soon and squad will need to be used wisely.

City will beat Arsenal twice when it comes too it. Stay on their coat tails long enough and who knows.... Injuries to other teams stars, avoiding them ourselves, a striker and a heap of genuine luck would def be needed but momentum and pressure are awful bastards to contend with.....

Focus has to be on securing 3rd/4th, and have a right crack at a trophy or two in EL and Carabao. False dawns have been here before.

Consistency in terms of results and controlling games, and high standards need to be the norm from here on out before we can genuinely talk about a league. We'll get there. Not yet. But soon

You left the hardest for last. If we did that an Arse collapse would be a given and City are only 4(5 really)pts away.

But the league leaders right now dont have a Harry Kane type up front. They get goals from everywhere and thats the key. We need Bruno, Sancho and Antony to chip in a lot more than they are.

We have a slim chance depending on a striker addition but Arsenal do look like the real deal. A young hungry squad with a lot of belief and momentum.

If they do somehow fall away there's City probably having too much for us. I wouldn't rule out Arsenal and City having problems though come the end of the season. We definitely should be going out every game thinking we have a chance to win the league, you aim for the top and if not you get 2nd or third, not aim top 4 feeling sorry for yourself not standing a chance and get 5th.

We are still far off from winning the title. The bar is set very high nowadays. We need to be near 95 to 100 points to win it. So far only Liverpool and Man City are able to do it in the history of the league. This season Arsenal looks to be on track of achieving that with world class football.

We are nowhere near that and in need of at least world class player in the following position striker, midfielder, GK and CB/RB.

Don't think so. I think it'll be around 85 - 90 this year.

We could, but it’s really important that hope of a miracle is not turned into expectation. We should be chuffed with top 4 this season, anything more is exceptional.

If it's 85 we may have slight chance to win. If 90 it's almost impossible as we have to win 19/22 of the remaining games.

We also need Arsenal and City form to drop massively.

There is zero chance of winning anything this year, let alone the league, because we have a decent starting 11, but in most positions the drop-off from primary to the backup is scary. Case in point:
1. McT vs Casemiro
2. Varane vs Maguire
3. Rashford vs. kid Garnacho
4. Martial vs. empty space / promise of a signing
5. Eriksen vs Fred
6. Bruno vs. DvB
7. Dalot vs. AWB
8. De Gea vs. Heaton
9. Antony vs Elanga

We are very lucky that apparently Luke Shaw is a world-class Center Back and has a decent backup in Malacia, or we'd already be in trouble. But Shaw can only play left CB (as a backup for Licha), and won't work for Varane replacement. We know Varane can't play every game, so we have huge problems even for top 4, let alone winning anything.

EtH is by far the best / most suiting manager we've had since Sir Alex, but he is not a magician. Nobody is a magician. You can drop-in Pep or Klopp into United right now and they wouldn't do any better than Erik, with current moronic club ownership/executive team. We need more quality signings and to sell players who don't work for us. Maguire, Lindelof, AWB, Fred - we can't sell them for what we paid, but surely we can sell them for some money that would be helpful to buy players who suit us more.

Yes.

That's the basic assumption for us to have a chance. If any of them get 90+ points then fair play to them, they'd fully deserve the title.

If we are lucky with injuries, get a decent 9 and Sancho comes back as a world beater we might get something like 83-87 points and that'd be a massive first season for ETH.

Still think City will catch up and win it. Remember we are only 16 matches into the season and so the Dec /Jan historical trend doesn't matter this year.

Yeah this is when City made their move a few years back by beating Chelsea and went on a mental winning streak

If they drop points against Chelsea then I think arsenal will run away with it. Plus we have city this month and I fancy our chances at home.

Not gonna lie it's frustrating when you see the likes of Leicester & Fulham having scored more than us this season. A loan striker would definitely help improve that side of things. Scousers goal tally is a bit of an anomaly due to that demolition of Bournemouth.

We just have to focus on finishing fourth maybe third if we can keep up this momentum. There has been too much damage done already this season to catch the top 2 whatever happens when we face them.

Everything will be resolved at the end of February. With the games coming up and what happens in the January window, there are a lot of variables to consider.

In typical Doctor Strange fashion, there is one scenario where United could emerge at the end of February in a very favourable position. For that reason, I have a small belief that it is possible.

Anything’s possible as it’s such an open season. We’re working our way back in steadily albeit in a crab like fashion. I’m sure ETH is wary of the huge implication any injuries could have on us, especially as we can’t afford replacements right now.

I don’t think City have their balance right this season. Bringing in Haaland is all good but they looked a better side playing with an extra creative player in midfield rather than striker.

We 110% are not ready to win this league though. Our squad is nowhere near finished up front so you can’t win league titles with that.

We need a good £250m perhaps spending to bridge the gap quickly.

We can challenge with a few world class additions in attack and midfield given the vast improvements of existing players like Shaw, Varane, Dalot etc…

De Gea is the interesting one. I have no complaints this season with him so hard to say we need a new keeper.

11 points is a very large deficit to pull back though and it will mean we have to be near perfect between now and the end of the season. We've already lost 4 games and while it's not unheard of for teams to win the league while losing 5 or 6 games I'm not sure this is going to be one of those years. Arsenal will begin to slip at some point but they need to lose at least four, and that presumes we don't drop any points either which obviously isn't realistic.

In any other season if we were to finish above City we'd be lifting the trophy. There's a small chance we finish above them, but sadly I think them having Haaland (and us being so thin at CF) will be the difference maker.

I believe we can. I don't believe we will though

Beat City and Arsenal back to back and only then will I believe.
To be fair a win and a draw would tickle my testies like
4 points and removing them from our fixture list, continuing to pick up points against lower teams is how we win leagues

Going toe to toe with teams like city and Barcelona will show us where we stand.

Beat them both and the players will have the confidence. But at this moment, not likely.

This season is all about getting in the top 4 with a decent cup run.

Four points against City and Arsenal, and we're in the mix. 6 points and it's in the bag.

The United threads on rival forums have gone awfully quiet. Bookies have us into 30/1. Decent value that for those who fancy the odd flutter.

I think we should be looking up now.

Arsenal will almost certainly blow it and City will be there to take it from them

We aint got the minerals yet. Unfortunately. We are though making very good progress this year. We have an indentity and team spirit to really build on. ETH is the right man for the job. I for one am delighted with what we have seen so far this year. A real progression.
