Who, with me, believes we can win the premier league?

Yes… will be a huge overachievement by the manager and players. Main weakness and what will probably cost us is crappy incoherent front 3, not including Rashford and lack of depth to replace our core spine if any get injured; De Gea, Varane, Casemiro, Rashford, Bruno

Weird that we would have played both City and Arsenal home and away by the halfway point of the season
Just a coincidence, since two games have been postponed. If the Queen hadn’t kicked it, we would have played then home and away by Matchday 21, not too abnormal. And Arsenal just happened to be top of the league this season so far.

Yeah I am confident over the next couple of windows (not this one) that we will improve depth on our spine. Obviously top priority is still number 9 and a top CM though

Nice as it would feel to think we could win the league I just can’t see it, especially without a recognised No9. I’m still of the opinion we should get rid of Martial and put funds towards someone. Our goal tally will fall well short of what it takes to win the league.

Definitely, if ETH gets backed. If this window we can get the right forward to compliment Rashford and Antony/Ganarcho and avoid injuries we can surprise quite a few people.

I'd be very happy with top 4, think that's a huge win for ETH given all that's happened, and the competition involved.
Top 4 and a trophy (would rather Europa but we have a shot at the league cup and FA cup certainly) would be a really good season

There aren't enough goals in the squad to win the league right now, but I do think 3rd is ours to lose at this point.

I think it will take two more summer windows for us to be legit contenders. We just don't have the depth to challenge for the title and on the FA?UEFA/ Carabao front as well. These are all things we expect to compete for being the massive club that is United. We need to get more depth upfront, more quality depth at CB and in the midfield. We cannot rely on just Eriksen and Casemiro to play every game. We drop off tremendously when we have to have McFred playing often.

Who would be the right forward (realistically) we can bring in this window

If we had or do get got a CF in Jan( we have enough wide attackers), I think we would have had a small chance this season, as its going. I think with new owners, we will be in with a strong chance next season.

Big summer and we have a huge chance next season

Honestly have no idea. But I trust that if ETH wants him, even on loan, it’ll be someone who will make a difference or improve our final third play.

Our starting 11 can beat anyone, but beyond that there are players who are nowhere near the same standard, and they will inevitably have to be relied on. If we have one in a million luck with injuries we can at least make it interesting.

We’re getting closer than we’ve been in a decade. I believe we’re missing a natural goal scorer who has the ability to terrify the life out of the opposition and can craft a goal from nothing. That’s why we’re seriously on the hunt for one.

Get a striker in January and fluke it with injuries and I honestly believe we could give it a go this year. Its wide open. City arent what they were though obviously still massive favourites. I think Arsenal will still slip up. Lots of ifs and luck but our best team is a match for anyone.

Even if we dont get much out of City and Arsenal, we would have played them both home and away with 19 games to go. The other 19 games barring Anfield are all winnable to me.

Diogo Dalot is coming back which means United can get rid of Aaron Wan Bissaka for some good money.Wan Bissaka can be sold and Martial NEEDS to be sold. I know Rashford is doing well now but I don't believe he is the right fit and Sancho is a complete bust. Getting a Harry Kane is a must along with maybe a Joao Felix. United is ALMOST there (title winning). Just move a few pieces and back to glory days.

Yeah absolutely crying out for that kind of goal scorer which hopefully we can get in summer. Problem is we also need someone right now who can chip in a few goals.

We will be humbled by City once again. Sorry.

loving the progress so far though. Love ETH
No way. ETH was a bit naive last time. He has to learn from that. And we're way better now. We might lose but it won't be like last time. A tough match for both sides I reckon.

We need a genuine , top class goal scoring centre forward, until we get one of those we are top four at best.

Nah, can't see it.

Too far behind and not equipped to go the rest of the season dropping minimal points. You feel the margin for error would be so small for a team that's just not there yet.

Martial won't get enough goals, can't rely on just Rashford and any injury to Casimeiro and we are treading water.

I think we have a job on to stay in top 4 if we don't sign someone in Jan who can contribute to goals.

Who knows though, if we were to beat City and Arsenal anything is possible but I just don't see either of those things happening let alone both considering the latter is at The Emirates and they look in great form.

The City game is a real indicator for me. Especially at Old Trafford. We've had some good results of late, but we should be hearing the Forest, Burnley, Wolves and Bournemouth's.

If we set up well and compete I'll be happy at the progress. What we saw at their place early in the season was a huge reality check after a run of good results.

6-3 flattered us immensely. We were utterly dominated and City could have had 8. To be 4 down at half time was an utter embarrassment.

We are a different side now (at least we have indicated so) but still a way to go for me to think we are in a position to challenge them. We just aren't far enough through that process. Even against weaker sides we go missing for 20-25 minutes...do that against Arsenal and City the game is done.

Not meaning to burst anyone's bubble. I've been wrong plenty, and a win against City would lift everyone further still. In reality I don't see us getting anything out of that game or Arsenal away.

If we make the right moves in the market in midfield and up top and at RB we just might push next season, especially if ETH continues to improve what we already have.

Good post. About sums it up for me. A very very long shot, much more likely for things to get derailed rather than in our favour. But it’s good to even have this type of conversation, compared to the soul-sapping seasons of recent past.

I think that's the positive I take. For a remote possibility and to be on that periphery is a long long way from the past few seasons.

We need that continual improvement. If it comes there's no reason we can't make that step towards contending in the coming years.

I'd say there's a chance, if people consider Man City and Newcastle as contenders then we have to be included in that argument on merit thus far. In the end, I do think we'll fall pretty far short without investment this month - particularly in the forward area.

Everyone expects City to get their act together and push Arsenal all the way if not overtake them, and I am one of those people. But it's going to be exciting as they play each other twice and we play them both still as well. Those games over the next 6 weeks or so will be crucial. All the highest placed sides taking points off each other almost every week, we can definitely find ourselves in the fight but we need to be getting like 7 points from City, Arsenal, and probably Newcastle assuming they continue as they have been. Big ask, but we'll see! I feel like even top 4 is getting close to the maximum out of this side as we are still missing a good 4-5 players to come into the starting XI let alone the squad if we want to be potential title winners. I personally feel as though we are overachieving a little bit from what I expected at the start of the season.

I'll get back to you with a definitive answer after Arsenal and City but I don't think we have enough to do it just yet because of the squad. The squad right now is too thin for us to truly scare Arsenal and City. In so many areas we are one injury away from mediocrity again. Just no real depth at all.

If (And a big IF) we signed a midfielder and a striker in January and beat Arsenal & City in the next few weeks then we would definitely be in the mix 100%.

I'm just glad we have the fans all on side with each other now, all pulling in the one direction so far so it's been a good season so far, let's kick on and see where we end up

Striker is possible but probably after those games

Makes no sense for this to be possible. We are clearly a good but not great team.

Mind you, it doesn't make much sense for it to be possible for Arsenal, either, but it seems to be. Weird season.

One thing we seem to have now, like Arsenal, is a settled best first XI (DDG, Dalot, Shaw, Varane, Martinez, Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes, Antony, Rashford, Martial). If all can stay fit that can go a long way, as it has for Arsenal.

Still seems likely City will pull away from everyone else given their clearly higher quality.

Looks like Alex Crook reads the Caf. My Wreck-It Ralf has finally gone public.
@4:35

Sky sports panel now talking about us as dark horses for the title , Carragher says we now have him worried. They say we are now only a striker away from real title contenders.

But unfortunately I think we are still a good bit off been realistic title contenders but going in the right direction , the City game coming up will tell us where we really are right now.

The thing is quite a few of our players are in better form than City's starting 11. Where we fall down is quality in the wider squad but whether thats an issue or not very much depends on luck with injuries.

Personally I think if one more attacker hits top form we're in with a chance.

No, but would be nice to continue the pattern - winning the Premier league in 93, 03, 13 and 23. But we don't have enough for that I'm afraid, would need phenomenal 2nd half of the season and few signings this month.
