Who will Arsenal bring in with the Fabregas money?

Bolton have talked him up around the £20 million mark, dont expect him for less than £12 million or so

Gary Cahill would in my book be a decent signing for Arsenal, although he isn't the sort of top CB(or top CB prospect like Smalling/Jones) that will shore up their defence. He'd do a tidy job but not much else.

Vermaelen is a good defender but a bit rash positionally. He needs a covering, fast CB alongside him. This could have been Koscielny if not for the fact he's just so prone to errors, although at times Kos has looked good.

Phil Jones would have been an absolutely ace signing for Arsenal. Ball-playing CB, quick, good at reading the game. Perfect foil for Vermaelen. I wouldn't play Vermaelen at LB, I think he'd lose some of his biggest traits there, mainly attacking the ball and nicking it in front of a striker before driving upfield with it.

Cahill would be a great buy for them but he isn't going to come for less than £15m. For £6m they might have a shot at some random defender from an obscure league, not a top PL prospect.

6m is an insult really. I know there's always an initial bid with the purpose of testing the waters but....yeah.

They should just spalsh the cash.

They need two centre backs for me, at least two midfielders and centre forward who can play 25 minutes without pulling his hamstring.

Cahill, Gourcuff (reunite him with Chamakh, they had a cracking partnrship) and Hazard. Them and their players back from injury/suspensions and I tell you what, they'd be as good as ever.

time is running out, only 3 days left, it will be some desperate last-minute buy.

Two defenders and a midfielder. Why the feck they've signed another winger despite lacking quality in other areas is beyond me.

And of the players they sign they need a couple of characters with personalities that can have a galvanize the squad as well. Either a player who is a leader and has grit, or someone like Hernandez who is full like exuberance. They have a serious lack of character in their squad as things stand.

That striker Park and that's it.They will have to try again in January

That's just awful management. Forget genuinely needing players, this squad needs to be given a lift. I don't think they believe they're at a top club ATM.

I can't believe he's left things get to the point they have.

In a way it's the chairman who is trying to curb the wage structure. Which is admirable but behind the times.Plus Wenger is finding it harder to get those gems because other clubs are playing him at his own game.

Once Gervinho, Frimpong, Song and Wilshere come back their midfield would look okay. They desperately need a good striker plus two good defenders.

They'll bring in a striker, and that'll probably be it. Wenger, in the BBC post-match interview, just repeated the lines that he's working very hard in the transfer market. He's really unconvincing when he claims to be thinking about spending.

Rumour here is that Arseanl have joined the race to sign Yossi Benayoun. Not sure he's the player they need, but nothing would surprise me with Wenger's transfer policy. Anyway, Liverpool are apparently in pole position to bring him back with personal terms apparently the only obstacle.

You're wrong mate, I have it on good 'Caf authority that he's going to Chelsea.

Yossi Benayoun would be a good short term alternative for Arsenal to replace Nasri.

If they sign Alex and Yossi, it is going to go against their club policy to sign 30 plus players and give them more than a one year contract.

Damned if they do and damned if they don't. Everyone says they need experience. I'm not convinced either player would stand out for them.

Alex would be decent stopgap. They should stay away from Benayoun though, he offers very little now.

They could do worse than putting in a bid for Meireles. Liverpool have enough players in that area and he would certainly improve them

I don't see how it's admirable. It would be if they had no room in the wage structure to accommodate players but they just lost Nasri and Fabregas who must have been the highest earners at the clubs, which surely opens up some space for signings. And they've dished out 12 million for a teenage winger/striker so there's some transfer money there as well.

arsenal will be ok when they have the injured players back and if they bring in a CB like Cahill

Liverpool look a much better bet for 4th place though and if I was wenger I'd be trying to bring in 1 special attacking player that could make the difference.....

whats the point in hanging onto money when the money spinning champions league qualification is at risk

Right, don't know if this has been done before, or if there's a better place for it, but I did a quick comparison.

Vermaelen - Vidic
Sagna - Rafael
Diaby - Cleverley
Song - Carrick
Squillaci - Evans
Wilshere - Anderson
Frimpong - Pogba
Gervinho - Young
Gibbs - Evra
Chamakh - Berbatov
Bendtner - Bendtner

So, if we'd had the injuries/suspensions they had yesterday, we'd have still been able to pick:

De Gea
Smalling Ferdinand Jones Fabio
Valencia Fletcher Giggs Nani
Rooney
Hernandez

With Park, Owen and Macheda on the bench.

A lot of rumours about Chamakh going about too. Since he was free anything will be a bonus.

What? They want to sell another player? What exactly is happening there? I know he is not great quality but where are they going to find a replacement this late in the window?

Its Chamakh we're talking about, I'm pretty sure they can just get a blanket to keep the bench warm
