Who will Arsenal bring in with the Fabregas money?

They might have Nasri money to go along with that Fabregas money if they're not careful. They would need two midfield players in that case.

If they were smart they would have tried to agree a deal in principle for Mata, depending on the Fabregas transfer going through. If it's too late to get him, then moves for Andre Ayew, Gourcuff, Jadson, would help get over those losses.

They would also do well to get Gary Cahill for their defence.

Clubs won't be keen to sell at this time, because there is no time to get replacements. I wonder if Wenger has anything lined up, or did he really think Fabregas was gonna stay. That would be poor planning if he didn't.

[wenger] head in sand mode [/wenger]

he must have had a plan in play right?

right?

in all seriousness, i expect that Ramsey/Wilshire will be Plan A

he'll probably add a defender or 2 with the money

What would people reckon to one of Jagielka/Cahill and Jadson?

Personally I think it will leave them short again.

the general consensus seems to be that people want Arsenal to fail miserably this year..

I'd much prefer them get 4th place than Liverpool

Will this be like the Ronaldo situation? Where everyone knew we had squids to spend and apparently "had to spend it", thus clubs allegedly asking for more money for certain players?

I don't think anyone in the media has really picked up on how small our squad is at the minute. It's literally one of the smallest squads in the division, and we're in Europe. I would bring 6 players in just to make up the numbers.

Eden Hazard, Jadson, Cahill, Parker, Jagielka, Samba & Hangeland They seem to be ones that are strongest linked with them.

Reckon they'll get Jadson, Cahill & Parker. They need a goalkeeper as well. Should have got Given.

If anyone else says we need a goalkeeper, I might well scream.

I reckon they need:
2 Centre-backs (1 top quality, 1 back-up)
1 Central Midfielder (preferably with a bit of experience about him)
1 Striker (Back-up for Van Persie, get rid of Chamakh)
1 Left back

I reckon:

1 back up left back. Preferably someone experienced.

1 centre-half to replace Squillaci in the squad. Maybe someone who could cover left-back too. Sort of an O'Shea-ish figure.

2 central midfielders - no Cesc, no Nasri, no Denilson. We've lost three - let's stick Ramsey in there as one, we still need two more. One defensive minded, one to be the second of the three.

1 striker to knock Chamakh down to third choice. Whoever Wenger wants.

5 players.

Sorry, yeah, I edited it to include a left back. Pretty much agree with your assessment, though I think an extra defender might be needed.

I wouldn't be surprised if Wenger took Rodwell as a back-up for Song and a spare fill-in centre-back.

5 established players in the next 15 days or so, do you see it happening, Al? Honestly, I don't.

That's what we need in my view, not what we'll get. I reckon we'll get one midfielder.

I know that and I agree that you need those positions to be filled. I fail to see why Cesc wasn't sold earlier if he was going to be sold anyway. That way, it gives you more time to plan and recruit. Which points to another question, what the feck were Barca offering earlier if the final price is what it is? 15m?

"The transfer window is still open and we are not scared to spend money if we find the right player," said Wenger.

"If it is for £2 million or £20 million we will do it if he adds quality to our squad. We have all our scouts all over the world and we look everywhere."

Unfortunately for Wenger it'll take more than that to replace Fabregas. And it also explains why Arsenal were never going to be able to sign Mata or another player of that quality.

£20 million is still a lot of money but he'll have to go for someone less proven and with less interest in him for that kind of money.

Wenger's buys the past 6 years have been very underwhelming. Vermaelen, Sagna, Gallas, Nasri, and Adebayor seem to be the only good ones in that time, and 2 of course are gone. Nasri didn't do a whole lot until last season, and Vermaelen has been injured a lot.

Players who've been brought in to Arsenal who've played, but been largely average include: Bendtner, Hleb, Diaby, Walcott, Rosicky, Baptista, Eduardo, Diarra, Ramsey, Arshavin, Chamakh, Koscielny, and Squillaci. I won't include Gervinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain, but if I were betting on either to become a Premier League star, you'd have to give me some amazing odds. Will Wenger finally get it right? :wenger:

some relatively unknown for a small enough fee no doubt

It is not that much money so probably no one worth while

Arsenal have well and truly saw their arse over this one.

Torres/Carroll would be the definitive example of this effect.

I was going to say that maybe Arsenal should look into someone like Dominco Criscito at Genoa, but then I remembered that he's just moved to Zenit. Would've been a decent buy. What do people reckon of Balzaretti or Cassani for Arsenal? I don't watch much Serie A but I've heard some hood things about those 2, and they're both old enough to bring some experience into the team (29 and 27 respectively). Wouldn't cost a huge amount either.

There aren't many left backs out there who are in that range between Hugely Expensive and Cheap But A Bit Shit.

I have a feeling they will sign Goetze.

I suspect this is Wenger's line of thinking. I know Goatse has said that he likes the way we play and Arsene likes them young enough to integrate into our system. Goatse could be a revelation over here..he's a supreme talent as far as I'm concerned.

It's pretty messed up how you keep referring to the poor lad as a goat.

I think he might spend the money on 2 season tickets to the Emirates. If he sells Nasri, he can get a third!

Gotze  He'll probably cost more than Mata. Why do people talk about Arsenal buying talents like him when they've never spent nearly enough money to sign him

None of the players mentioned here will go for the amount Wenger is willing to pay.

The selling club will squeeze every last drop from Arsenal, and rightfully so, because it's so late into the transfer window. Knowing Wenger, he'll probably buy potential instead, and target the title in two year's time.

They won't bring in anyone. Wenger probably has a 14 year old in his closet who can do the job.
