Who will Arsenal bring in with the Fabregas money?

He'll pluck another defender from the French league, one who can play centrally or on the left. He'll cost about 6m and he'll be shite.

If nasri stays then their midfield is fine - what they need to do is sort out their defence

Not one mention for Javi Martinez? I hope to God Wenger doesn't consider him as he's exactly what they need.

This complete silence from Arsenal is surely worrying for the supporters, no? What's Arsene thinking?

Didier Deschamps has confirmed that Marseille have rejected an Arsenal loan bid for midfield ace Lucho Gonzalez.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Stade Velordome all summer, but moves to Spain and Italy have never materialised.

Arsenal were linked with a shock move for the ageing play-maker, and Deschamps has confirmed that they did indeed show an interest in him - as opposed to his team-mate Mathieu Valbuena, who has also been linked with the Gunners.

"The one that really interests them is Lucho Gonzalez," Deschamps confirmed at a news conference.

"Arsene Wenger believes that it is a great player who could be useful to his team even though he does not fit in with his recruitment policy.

"He wanted him on loan but it was not acceptable to us."

Gonzalez now seems set to stay in the South of the France until January at least.

This is ripe for a 'Kaka to Man United' follow up.

Arsenal should have let Fabregas go last year and got Yaya Toure plus cash. He would have fitted perfectly in their midfield.

He wouldn't have fitted into the wage structure though. It was never an option. Don't you people realise that we can't match stupid sheikh money?

They're in advanced negotiations to sign 16yr old Peruvian Striker. Could be a great talent, but judging by the reactions of Arsenal fans on twitter, they're not pleased.

I honestly thought Hazard was Arsenal bound ths summer.

I honestly thought Hazard was Arsenal bound ths summer.

Why? When top clubs would be interested and offer more money and Arsenal have never payed the kind of money it would take to sign him? Its just like the mentions of Mata, Goetze and so on.

These players cost more money than Arsenal have ever spent before, its highly unlikely to happen

They have signed Joel Campbell. A 19 year old forward who has not scored a club goal in his career

For fees of less than £10m I reckon there are a lot of decent players to be bought in Ligue 1 this season. Whether or not it's too late in the window to buy them now though, is a completely different matter.

Arsene Wenger watched in frustration as his injury-hit Arsenal side were beaten 2-0 at home to Liverpool, but he refused to accept that he had to buy players before the transfer window ends in 10 days’ time.

He said: “The target is to have a good team. You can spend money – and have a bad team.”

They could try to hijack the rumored George John to Blackburn transfer. He's a decent central defender and Arsenal clearly need depth in defense. Granted he's 24 so probably too old.

Or Gary Cahill.

Or Brede Hangeland.

Arsenal begin transfer talks with Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila | Football | The Guardian

Arsène Wenger has responded to Arsenal's troubled start to the season by making a bid for the Rennes holding midfielder Yann M'Vila. The manager's attempt to strengthen his team came as hopes grew that Jack Wilshere will return from ankle trouble to face Udinese in Wednesday's pivotal Champions League play-off second leg.

M'Vila, who has established himself as a regular in the France team, would cost £12m. The 21-year-old is under contract until 2015 but Rennes have allowed Wenger to talk to him. Arsenal's manager also has an interest in Sochaux's attacking midfielder Marvin Martin.

havent seen this kid but he's highly rated isnt he??

Wenger is a good manager, he'll fill the gap some how. They'll not be challenging for the league but he'll keep them competitive. The clubs transfer policy is really shafting the fans who deserve better.

All the fuss and fighting over Cesc and Nasri didn't increase the fees and a week to find replacements. It would have made more sense to place them on the transfer list three months ago, get a few clubs in bidding wars, and have a couple of months to spend the money.

In all fairness, Cesc would only go to Barce, and they've got as much as they could out of that deal it seems. If Nasri goes to City they're also the highest bidders.

£12m for M'Vila seems really cheap. If they get him at that price, it would be an excellent deal for them.

The pressure on Barca would have been significant if he was transfer listed and Arsenal set the price. Any club willing to match their valuation could speak to the player and unsettle him with money. If they had listed Nasri at 10 million more than he will finally sell for United would have probably bid.

The main point is Arsenal have fecked themselves over. Didn't maximize the fees, unsettle the squad all summer, and then leave themselves with a few days to buy replacements.

Aren't they still after Felipe Melo?

That was some time ago and he is long gone. He went to a Turkish club on loan from Juventus for £2m and they have the option of getting him for £3m at the end of the season. He is 28.

Gary Cahill would be a very good signing for them so much so that I can't believe it hasn't happened already. Maybe he'll go back for Jagielka...personally I'd go for both. They finally have a good goalkeeper so these 2 would help immeasurably. I suspect they've left it too late though, who wants to sell their key defenders with just 1 week of the transfer window to go?

I'd take only one of the two defenders. Their Belgian defender Ver... is a class act defender.

Arsenal eyeing €35M swoop for Bayern Munich star Schweinsteiger
24.08.11 | tribalfootball.com

Bayern Munich midfield ace Bastian Schweinsteiger is a target for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Flush with the cash from the sales of Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona) and Samir Nasri (Manchester City), Wenger has the funds to test Bayern's resolve for Schweinsteiger.

Bayern have already warned Manchester United off their star man this month and rate him in the €35 million class.

With AC Milan also keen, Sport Mediaset says Wenger is planning a bid for Schweini in the coming days.

The Frenchman confessed last night: "We are short in midfield at the moment and that is where we want to strengthen."

The prospect of Schweini quitting Bayern increased this week after a withering attack from club icons Franz Beckenbauer and Oliver Kahn over his captaincy.

Tribal Football, mind. :D

That's essentially the problem. Ideally, Fabregas and Nasri should have been sold early in the summer allowing us ample time to get cover and replacements in. Can't see players getting any cheaper in January either.

It's a cheeky bid...I'm sure wenger knows it'll end up around 10 million. Bolton can't turn down that sort of cash and we have sorted them out with loans in the past. They will do a deal.

I wouldn't count on them bending over and accepting £6M less then what they value him, just cause you've helped them with loan deals. But we will see
