It needs to be someone that knows how to set up a team. Can play exciting football but stay compact also and not let in so many chances.
Steal Alonso from under Liverpool's nose and make a statement.
The main aim of the deal was to have preference on Estevão and other Youth pkayers. Not sure ir was 100% closed, but in Brasil at December they announced it on media as done.
Has and very solid CV, is a huge fan of using the latest scientific methods, but unfortunatelly is a very result oriented manager. Also rotates a lot to manage with players jaddeness.

Next manager for us? Anyone at this point. Solskjaer was better and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. He at least set us up to beat sides like Fulham and Brighton. That's not to say Solskjaer was a great manager or anything, he couldn't handle the big egotists, but he did well with our younger players at least. Ten Hag has been worse in every aspect somehow.

Setting up with 5 players pressing forward, then simply getting the ball forward as quickly as you can, is -not the way to control a game of football- and hasn't been since around 2010.

Given the God like status of Klopp by the scousers I wonder if it's a who would want to follow him situation especially if they win the title. A bit like when SAF stood down. Alonso would be better with us given the only way is up but I expect a lot would depend on the ABU level he'd still have after having it drummed in to him during his time there.

Luis Enrique imo would be a good manager for United (once he's sacked/leaves the PSG circus). The guy takes absolutely no shit from players, a strict disciplinarian and is a solid manager.
Out structure will likely be very strong if our when a new manager is appointed.
What do you base the Potter view on?
I could see a manager that gets along with the players providing a temporary boost but ultimately that will fade with this group of players.

As with most threads about potential incomings, it all depends on what identify Ratcliffe and co have envisioned for the club. Once Ashworth comes in, we should know a lot more.

Oh I agree on both points, however there's no doubt in my mind that De Zerbi is a level above Potter both in terms of his ceiling and his actual style of play. They're really fun to watch. The one thing I will say is our players aren't good enough to play his system, which is heavily based on beating the press. Bruno and Rashford won't survive under him but I'd hope any regime moves on from the both of them anyway.
I think a big problem we've had in the last decade is bringing in managers who have their own philosophy & playing styles. This has led to each bringing their own players in & creating a very mismatched squad that struggles to gel. Any top manager we bring in will surely need to change the majority of the squad to work to their own preferred play style.
Rather than go for a top manager, thinking we are ready to challenge for the title, I'd like to see us bring in a mid-term manager/head coach for 2-3 years who can get the most from the existing squad, whilst the footballing team behind the scenes make moves to bring a footballing culture & setup back into the club. Someone like Francesco Farioli I believe would do well with the existing squad & should bring about a cohesive playing style that brings the best out of Bruno, Rashford, Mainoo, Hojlund. He's quite an inexperienced manager so not sure how he'd deal with some of the personalities, but my hope is the experience of INEOS will be there to manage the cultural aspect, Francesco will be more of a head coach. He has his Nice team 2nd in the farmers league playing a 2-3-2-2-1 type formation. His Italian heritage brings defensive solidarity, but also plays on the counter with fast attacking sprints into the box.
It's not realistic to sell 90% of the squad & tbh I don't think there's a need to. There is a lot of quality in the squad, so my thinking is Francesco has us competing at around 80 points. In 2-3 years we would have established a proper footballing setup again & shipped out some of the deadwood. We can then look at the next stage & recruit a manager to push for the title.

I will ask this, is ETH the problem? Think about what he has, limits for transfers etc. He inherited a bit of a mess for a high level team. They need to rid themselves of lazy whiners, this means Rashford and Fernandes, who are the supposed stars of this team but are not leaders. There must be a competition between them on who will be the first to get airborne flapping their arms all the time, this is Manchester United, not Chelsea or West Ham, they need to act accordingly! I have had conversations with other supporters offline and they shriek when I say this. The question then is, would you rather have Roy Keane in his prime or Bruno, would you rather have Scholes or Bruno, puts things back into perspective. This team needs a new culture. I do not like the setups and game philosophy, too much sitting back, too much long ball, but hey, you have to protect the back end I don't see too many running box to box. I did see Garnacho do one yesterday, but other than that none. Injuries, what is with all the injuries? That in itself has to be rectified. We just went through 10 yrs of total mismanagement with Woodward, now Ratcliff is bringing in the top management talent. It won't happen over night as this is only the beginning. It's been a long time since we had a charismatic manager.
Being man enough to bench star players is crucial to the success of any new manager. You don’t bench someone after one bad performance but when the malaise drags for 3-4 matches there has to be accountability. And there has to be the depth in talent so that a player know he’s dropped standards, as Rashford and Bruno have done, that they might see their regular starting role vanish.
This is the root, or should I say rot, of the problem at Old Trafford.

To be a good manager, you put the team first, above any player and you expect the same of every player. You set the expectation and it is the responsibility of every player to meet that expectation. Those that do not meet the expectation do not stay. As I have said prior, when you have upper management undermining this expectation it creates chaos hence Jose and Woodword with Pogba. Players lose respect for the manager, forget it, the team follows suit unless you cut out the cancer. The manager has to be like a father to the players, there when they need him, give them heck when they need it and acknowledge when they have success. There has to be a closeness to the players but not too close that they think you're their buddy. The expectation is to train harder, play harder, outscore every opponent and win every game. The pockets at Manchester United are deep enough to do this. The knowhow is what is lacking.
Now. Or at least a pre-agreement before end of the season. Summer manager market is gonna be competitive.

I'm still underwhelmed by practically the majority of names tossed about lately, but at this point I just need to see a change, something different.

There are a lot of better managers out there than Ten hag from more proven leagues/sides but the bigger debate is do we hold out til summer and ultimately miss out on champions league football (and it's money) or go for broke and try to save the rest of this season but have to make do with bringing in a manager that probably would not be top of our list in the summer.
The other elephant in the room is thanks to ten hag and murtough terrible transfer dealings in and out of the club, do we even have the money to sack him and bring in a new manager, especially if we have to pay compensation to another club?

Yeah he could definitely get prepwork done before the actual tournament, we wouldn't even have to announce him as the next manager until after the tournametn so it doesn't end up like Lopetegui with Spain. I think Van Gaal started with us after the World Cup so we can make it work if he's the man we want.

I see no real reason that he possibly deserves another season, I'm all for giving players and managers time, but he's had plenty, and shown very little. Fresh start is needed at this club in more than one area.
Exactly, I don’t believe for a second that Ratcliffe and his sporting structure haven’t already put plans in place for who would follow ETH once they do fire him but that person will be in line with how Ashworth and the structure have decided in regards to our identity and playing style.
Based on Ratcliffe’s interview I think he wants us to play as we did under Sir Alex where we play until the very last whistle with a never say die attitude so he’ll want a manager who’ll demand high pressing and high stamina as a start, it’s clear it’ll be attacking football or at the very least attractive to watch but everyone gives 100% every minute they’re on the pitch and that no one is bigger than the club.

REgardless of the playing style, we should not be facing these amount of shots. And the way we play under SirAlex is out dated, we need to scrab that idea and and play like a big team that wants to control games
