Who replaces Ten Hag?

Spanish managers are all the go at the moment, with Mikel Arteta & Xabi Alonso doing well. Portugese manager Ruben Amorim at Sporting Lisbon has been earning great praise, some good options around, although ETH seemed like a good choice at the time too.

I'd be curious to see how De Zerbi does with a much bigger club.

And he won't need to have too much input on incoming players once we hire the right people for the board.

It's a gamble though, but he's shown a far greater ability than ETH in the league in terms of maximizing a team. With better players, his system and way of playing could yield great results.

His Brighton team were 4th in xPts last season and are 6th thus far.

Would folks give EtH till end of the season or do we bring in someone now, esp. If it's Nagelsman or Flick?

I wonder if City smash us cricket score style would we make a change? I think we will just go for a temporary fix, I wouldn't rule Ruud Van Nistelrooy out as a fill in.
 
We couldn’t have a worse time to find a new manager. The best two will go to Liverpool and Bayern. It’s a shame Madrid extended on Ancelloti. Morinho is the biggest fattest NO in history. Whoever we get is a unproven Gamble. Hopefully things will be different under Radcliffe but are we really a big draw anymore? Would you want to manage Rashford as your so called star?

Who are the best two and why do you think United would definitely miss out on them .

Just to add no matter who we bring in it would be a gamble unless we prise Guardiola away from City .
 
Feels like Alonso would be perfect for Liverpool with Klopp confirmed to leave otherwise he'd have been the top pick. The other is Michel at Girona. They've had 2 defeats in a row now so see if he can get them back on track but nobody can deny that he's outdone himself this season and that with the resources United get, Girona could still have been top of the table at this point.

If we're not in the position to attract one of the best performing managers this season then maybe Hoeness, Thiago Motta, Ruben Amorim, Peter Bosz, Nagelsmann, Flick, Ange or Emery

And if we cant convince any of those then we should probably keep ETH. He certainly hasnt promoted every young player that every redcafe poster rates and he hasnt given every one I rate chances yet or sold them, but he's used a good amount of our young players and more than some of the managers we would bring in. And given how well we've used transfer funds for the past 10 years and how well our younger players have done at youth level I think we have plenty that could be given the chance to show they can be a decent player for us in the first team.

The thing I like about bringing in an ideological guy like De Zerbi is that I think he'd at least improve the extent to which we pass, press and such and that would be good for Mainoo, Hojlund and Garnacho, Dalot and let's say another 4-5 signings of younger players we get this summer. I don't think he'd just manage desperately for results. We've got a long-term project to start here.

He got fired with a record of 60 wins, 14 losses and 10 draws at Bayern. Tuchel is at 29-5-11, significantly worse. He's young. Makes a lot of sense if he wants the job.

Xabi to Liverpool, Nagelsmann to us and De Zerbi to Barcelona seems like my vague guess at what will actually happen.

Only Alonso who we’d probably never get anyway. Everyone else is free for all and a risk.

Alonso is the most upcoming. When I said best I’d be thinking Klopp, Pep, Carlo, but I think I meant best available. I’d say best available would be Zidane and Alonso. Yes you are correct they are both a gamble.
 
I am dreading the next manager also sadly.. it's been a constant up and down with all new hires, year 1 excitement is quickly outdone by year 2 mediocrity and it all falls apart by year 3.

Feels like we will be in a rut till the Ineos overhaul is complete for the club's support structure and new folks have the time to implement changes. But that will be need more time I think.

He’s a fraud and after his United career most big clubs don’t touch him, he might get a gig at Ajax again and hopefully take Antony back with him ?

I don’t think it is as simple as that. All depends on how the new leadership push the opportunity/challenge to him.
Between Madrid and us, it is a no-brainer at present. Liverpool don’t really have the same budget as us and I think they will also be hampered massively by losing Salah.

However Alonso is not the only one available. I am putting my faith in our newly established hierarchy to sort this out effectively.

We certainly are but our recruitment has been beyond terrible. We were all buzzing after the summer window but what a mess. Ten Haag got his players.
 
If he’s available Nagelsmann makes a lot of sense, I don’t know if he would want to leave the German national team before the Euros in the summer, unless we got him immediately after.

He would get crucified in Germany. It’s a European Championship and Germany is the host and record champion of the competition. No way the German federation would ever allow it. He’s not coaching Iceland…

For all those saying Tuchel… I think he would be a horrible, horrible choice. The guy would pick a fight with Ghandi and Mother Theresa. He’s a smart man and a great tactician but is emotional intelligence is next to zero. On paper he makes sense with his accolades and PL experience, but I think it would go terribly wrong. It would be like reappointing Mourinho.
 
I think Ineos will make the change and look for someone homegrown and young. Who understands British football and works in a system. Particularly someone who understands United. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kieran McKenna taken on as a coach who will implement the Ineos preferred method of playing. They're implementing a structure now that is compartmentalised and designed to let a coach be just that and will be looking for the right character rather than a big name baggage manager.

Ok lets try the guessing game.. Barcelona - Hansi Flick, Liverpool - Julian Nagelsmann, Bayern - Zinedine Zidane, Manchester United - Roberto De Zerbi, Newcastle - Thomas Tuchel or..Jose Mourinho.. Xabi Alonso will stay at Leverkusen for one more season, then he is off to Madrid.Pochettino will stay for second season at Chelsea. In the coming year or two Arteta will leave Arsenal and will be a manager of PSG (he played for them) etc

This is what crossed my mind of recent. Pep, Zidane, Arteta, Alonso were never proven when they took over their first roles and look at them now. It high time we look for fresh ideas and I believe Kieran McKenna has potentieal. my only worry is his charisma. I doubt he is a big personality enough to handle the pressure that comes with managing Man United else he is a good upcoming coach.
 
What are people's thoughts on S. Inzaghi at Inter?? Seems tactical flexible and has had Inter playing some very positive football. Also Italian managers seem to do very well in England unlike say Dutch managers for example.
 
Anorim or Nagelsmann might be good options for our project. They seem like managers that will want to build something for the long run.

I mentioned him a while ago. I’ve never actually seen him linked with any big jobs though. Maybe he’s to settled there. It’s unsure whether we’d go for a manager that prefers a 3 at the back formations.

Did anybody see his tactics against Atletico? In possession he swapped his CBs and CMs to help quick ball progression from the back and the CBs became CMs to battle the Atletico CM 3. Certainly not adverse to trying new things. They won the game too, and have only lost once in the league all season.
 
It’s a hard one. I have no idea why Hag didn’t work. We simply haven’t seen what he churned out at Ajax, which was beautiful football. He’s admitted we will never see that. I don’t understand why.

He was my first choice by a landslide when we were replacing Ole. Our next manager simply needs to get us playing lovely stuff and scoring goals. Who can do this for us? Nagelsman looks to have the personality, which may be important.

We just don’t have the players to do a high press. The reason we give away so many chances is our press is so poor and lazy. We need a manager that can adjust to a different style until we have the players for a high press. Clearly, ETH isn’t that man.
 
Not really sure why I keep seeing people say we can’t have ……. because he plays this way or we can’t have …… because he plays this formation when Ratcliffe made it very clear in his interview that an incoming Director Of Football (Ashworth) and the footballing structure will be deciding how United play and our on pitch identity/set up.

Whoever we bring in will be told how we play and our philosophy so they will have to adapt their own style if they were to be successful in their application, the days of us bringing in manager after manager and the club bringing players in to suit their style whilst being stuck with players from managers before them too are over..

We currently have players in the squad from as far back as LVG’s reigns with players who played under Jose, Ole, Rangnick and lots of ETH’s own signings thrown in and that’s on the piss poor footballing structure that’s been in place, or more so lack of footballing structure, so it’ll be no more bringing in managers with different tactics or formations to the previous one and more so everyone on the same page going forward whoever takes over from ETH and yes ETH must go.

hearing Inzaghi always make me smile. Didn’t SAF said “that boy was born offside”
Italian managers always seems to do well in EPL. Good shout
