Who replaces Ten Hag?

It is crazy. We all expect changes because of new minority owner but honestly it looks like the same as before. We are in June and still no information from the club about the manager. Forget the new players but not even the manager is known. At this stage I really do not care if it is ETH or another one. All I want is some clarity. It is a big concern if the club hesitates with their decision based on one game. They should have enough games to watch throughout the season to evaluate whether they want ETH to stay or not. I really struggle to understand the current position. And very sadly, it makes me pessimistic with the upcoming transfer season and I am afraid that we might have similar transfer seasons as seen in previous years under the Glazer. I hope I'll be surprized and come August everything is bright and optimistic

They should of made a decision a couple of months ago when all managers were available. Instead, they waited until most of them have already made plans for next season, so we are now stuck with the current shower of shite. I'd rather keep him for next season then make approaches to the Nagalsmanns, Inzaghis, Ange etc.

Posts from Sir Jim and team in the times to come:

- We know it took time to make sure we got/had the right manager for the future but we are sure it was time well spent.
- It is difficult to sell/buy new players due to all the players are at the Euros but we are doing our best to prepare for the new season.
- We are in negotiations with a lot of players but it is difficult right now as players have gone on holiday after the Euros.
- Several of the players we were expected to sign has unfortunately chosen to sign with other clubs or are no longer up for sale as the new season are to start soon.
- We are very happy we managed to get in the players to the positions we wanted and also get the players that we not in our future moved on.

All this means that we end up signing 2-3 players and overpaying late in the window as usual (none of these players will be 1st or 2nd choices), maybe 1-2 players in on loan (back up players at best).

Or they will spend the budget on one signatory signing like Neves and we will only get a total of 2-3 players in (incl. loans).

Further the clear out of players will only be (Greenwood at low price) the obvious out of contract and players not able to make the team no matter how many injuries we get + Sancho on loan to Dortmund or back with United if ETH is let go.

"Maybe my view is just slightly negative" :-)

He has no ties to us, and we're a mess. He definitely does not snap us up.
Xavi is well known to be fond of us, saying at one point that if he'd ever have left Barca (when he was a player) it would have been us he'd wanted to join.

I think the rumour is that he wants a less high-profile lower-pressure job next though, so that would be the reason he might not want the job. And while his accomplishments as a manager do seem fairly good, most people who have actually watched him and his team seem to think that he's not very good.

Didn't realise the EFL is now considered a major honour.
Yes. For the past year or so, it's been really funny to read the mental gymnastics which have been going on to justify the unjustifiable. This is a new argument across this forum.

I guess Conte’s out of the picture now (not that he ever was in the picture) - appointed at Napoli.

Curious to see how he does.

Allegri out of a job now. Not that I'm suggesting him. I'd rather not, in fact. Better than some of the alternatives, though.

It's always been a major honour.

Beating city in the semi final in 2010 saw one of Old Trafford's greatest ever celebrations.

The idea that Fergie never took it seriously was always a bit of a myth.

What's with these coaches and sabbaticals? Xavi is the only one I'd swap ETH for.
It could be a sign of the times, I think we're seeing comments on here often that there really aren't that many clear alternatives to EtH and it's maybe giving more power to the managers.

Take a year out, do some punditry, technical development, that sort of thing because being in management is probably more brutal than I appreciate so maybe it makes sense.

And it gives you time to have a look at other stuff, get new input, that you just don't have time for if you are in a job as a football manager. For example I remember Oliver Glasner talked about wanting to have a look at other sports after leaving Frankfurt, and I know he spend a week with the Golden State Warriors NBA team to see how other sports do stuff, not just football.

The FA Cup is a major trophy. The league Cup is and always has been a second rung trophy.

It's because it was City. It's a second rate competition. Major teams don't play their best players until at least quarterfinals.

That was his first season in the EPL, and seeing the team he took over he did good.

He has improved since then, the way Villa are playing now and making top 4 isn’t by luck.
They all do. Until it's time to take the United job, and then all of the sudden they're not good enough.

Pardon my skepticism, but when a coach is having a tough time keeping in a check a group of past it stars at Arsenal and is expected to come in and curb the player power at our club?. You probably understand why I'm not filled with confidence.

He strikes me more like Moyes or Poch: very good with midtable clubs, but once they make the step up, they look out of depth.

What if there is no real decision to make from Ineos as they have already made their decision about keeping Ten Hag weeks or months ago… what if maybe the reports about him being sacked was just the media creating their own stories for clicks?? Maybe we believe ten hag as he has said many many times that he has been told that they will keep him next season??

This seems plausible. Well on to another season going down the drain then.

He has said himself he doesn't know if he's staying. I think they would have said something if he was staying just to end all the noise and show some support for him. The way SJR name dropped everybody except him after the final was quite telling too, and he himself walked away from journalists asking if he's staying when he could have just said yes and left it at that. Not too mention all the journalists saying that's not been the case, they've obviously been fed some sort of Iine by the club.

So, the main names are, what, Pochettino and Southgate? Depressing stuff. No point in even changing managers in that case.

Pochettino is a better manager than ETH and also less controversial. It’s a very big improvement if you want to start a new project with players on side.

I am thread banned in the ETH thread

Anyway my own thoughts on this whole situation from the media side of things.

None of the usual tier one sources should be considered tier one anymore, I think since INEOS came in and more specifically Berrada in the background all your usual sources whether they are training ground staff, media relations or players themselves are no longer tapped into what is happening at board and decision maker level and I am here for it.

I think Ornstien, Romano, Jacobs all your usuals and ill toss in Goldy as well who may have had ins before and information fed from people "who would know" now no longer know and are making educated guesses.

To be 100% clear I think they have tightened up within the hierarchy of the club and whoever used to have reliable from the source information to feed to the usuals i mentioned before have now lost that access.

I think the pre FA cup sacking news, the post season review and the current waiting we are doing are all absolutely fabricated and nonsense.

I think INEOS will be pissing themselves at all the updates the media are giving us and there is no pre-determined review period and they are always in a state of review and will react and respond as they wish when opportunity arises.

I think signing of players is indipendent of the manager as they want the football structure to make those decisions just like City would have signed Haaland whether Pep signed it off or didnt.

Finally I think the decision to stick with ETH or not has probably been made and I think they are waiting for their prime target or are in negotiations with them. They dont need to say anything if he is staying, hes in contract.

I have relaid many times what I was told a long time ago, but im not going into it anymore so keep saying "you said hes going" I couldnt give a toss. I just think its clear none of the usual insiders have a clue.

ETH staying, Tuchel/De Zerbi/Pochettino coming in, are all equally underwhelming outcomes personally. I’m more interested in the players we sign this window. We desperately need more ball retentive players and players that can create chances. I think a good window with these type of players will secure top 4 regardless of the manager

Longer this goes on, the more it suggests to me EtH stays or they are waiting for Southgate to be done with the Euros. Surely if it was Poch, Tuchel or De Zerbi who are all now out of work the decision would have been made.

Southgate has done well with England, but would rather stick with ten Hag. Tuchel seems like the best manager who is available if we get rid of ten Hag.
