Christ knows. Right now I'm worried this will be another feck up of a transfer window. This is a very inauspicious start, regardless of which version of events you believe.
The only midfielder we're currently linked to that I think we could sign is the Dutch lad (Clasie?) who might be better than Cleverley. Joy.

Woodward will be surely sacked if he doesn't deliver the goods this time, Scholes even came out and said it recently. We can't afford another farce of a summer.

A midfield pairing of Strootman and Carrick next season would not be bad at all even though Strootman is out till October....It might be the best scenario we can hope for...I got blasted on here for repeatedly saying we had no hope of getting Kroos or Vidal etc....Hopefully Woodward can spring a surprise by landing a top top name in midfield but the most likely scenario is strootman...the good thing is that Van Gaal will for sure have a plan B and C for targets unlike Moyes last year so you would have to think we will get some quality in

He is loving his time at Juventus, dominating Italian football, winning silverware and playing CL every season. He is adored by the fans, he has Juventus tatooed on his arm and said sometime ago he absolutley loved the club and wouldn't want to play anywhere else. Even if he did want to make a step up or have a change of scenery, one word from his agent in the media about his availability and he'll have every topclub begging him to sign for them, Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, City, he could go anywhere he wants and all those clubs would happily pay a ridicoulous transferprice for him and offer him a mind boggling salary.
Why on gods green earth would he come to a fecked up club like us ? No stability anymore, no good football, no guarantees on winning silverware anymore, not even CL football...If I were a worldclass footballer I wouldn't come to United unless it was the only available topclub left that would want me and could afford my salary demands.
I think we should simply forget about players like Vidal, kroos, Reus, Fabregas etc, they are simply out of our league for the moment. We have to focus on rebuilding step by step and showing the world we are not a club that only has a massive fanbase and big warchest to offer. We used to have Fergie and the knowledge we were the dominant team in the PL and a guaranteed CL team, we have none of those anymore. We have LVG and a major rebuilding job on our hands, I think we'll have to get through that job with the players we have and targets that are in our league, start playing sexy football again, start forming a real team again, get results, get CL football, win a price and then come out with the big transfer budget and big talk about signing worldclass players from other top teams, because right now, we can say all these things, but nobody wants to come unless we are their only alternative (RVP was a totally different United, Mata we were his only realistic exit before the WC).
Club really should focus on a lower tier of midfielders. Kroos, Vidal, Fabregas that just won't happen.
Last year we could have gone for Moutinho, Strootman, Paulinho, Kondogbia Cabaye, Naingolan but we pulled up our nose for them because we wanted Thiago, Gundogan or Fabregas and ended up with paying £27.5m for Fellaini.
There are other midfielders out there than Kroos, Vidal or Fabregas: Song (can leave barcelona), Khedira (can leave Real Madrid), Bender, Fernando, Witsel, Schneiderlin, Paulinho (he is not happy at Tottenham), Gustavo, Valero, Guarin and if we would be willing to overpay we could try for Strootman, Herrera or Carvalho, hell we may even have a chance on Martinez if we act fast enough and are lucky (he wants to leave Bayern) but we should really start accepting that we have to aim a little lower until we are back among the top dogs. If United is playing a CL final again and than are willing to throw around silly money I'am willing to believe we can land people like Vidal or Kroos but right now we don't even have a chance. We had a perfect chance of doing so in the last couple of years, we were top dogs, but we rathers wasted our money on Young, Bébé, Berbatov etc and wasted our time on players like Cleverley, Anderson, Park etc than to really concern ourselves with the quality in the team (especially midfield). We could have signed almost anybody in 2011, but we didn't want to, and now that we need to, nobody wants to sign anymore, brilliantly planned out by the club.
We should pursue other targets. Why would Fabregas want to play for our club? He seems like a loyal lad to me and I'm pretty sure that he would choose Arsenal over us anytime. Also I don't think he will leave Barca this summer.

I just hope we won't end up with a shitload of useless players (especially dutch ones) remember Edson Braafheid that he brought to Bayern Munchen. Desperatley hope we won't sign players like Clasie etc.

Reminds me of the Dutch invasion at Barca. Not all of them were shit though, to be fair.
As for Clasie, I don't mind him actually. I haven't watched a whole lot of his games, but he seems talented. As long as we avoid players like Braafheid and the rest of the obscure mediocrity in the Dutch League, I'm confident that we will have our best summer in years.

We really should target players below the tiers of Kroos, Fabregas etc. We should have gotten Strootman last season, or Herrera or someone of that level. A young-ish player who has the ability to improve. It seems like ever since Woody took over, we have looked to be getting big marquee signings.
I hope we sign a player under the radar of the media,who will develop into a superstar,rather than the so called big name players doing the rounds.

It's actually incredible how at a club like Manchester United, that we've visibly had the midfield as the weak point in our team since around 2008, and yet it's been continuously ignored, while we've bought countless players in every other position. I genuinely don't understand why fergie completely looked past it for so long. You could say there was pogba, but why not play him? Or Morrison? Then moyes coming in and getting in the one midfielder who costs more than £15m who wouldn't improve us one bit.
I just hope with the midfield being such an important part of van gaals style that he'll buy somebody, but after 7 years of wanting a midfielder, I've given up hope a bit.

No but a lot of clubs are duelling it out for his signature. We'll have to act fast if we are to have a chance of getting him.
I actually think Ander Herrera would be quite a good fit in Van Gaal's system.

Yes, he would be expensive, but I'm past caring about that now. We manufactured our own mess and have to pay for it. He's certainly the best option I can think of, who might be available.
Blind, Lars Bender, Gonalons, Fofana, Kovacic, Sertic, Saul Niguez, Parejo and Iturraspe could be others who could improve us, whether they are the right signing and fit in well enough, I'm not as sure as with Ander Herrera.
