Which midfielder will we sign this summer?

According to one of the twitter scouts Alonso is going to Chelsea with Mourinho.

Honestly I'd like us to go for Cabaye and Strootman.

A midfield comprised mainly of Cleverley, Strootman, Cabaye and Carrick would be very interchangeable and give us a good mix of defensive discipline, drive, deep passing, short passing and goal threat behind Kagawa.

I've found Cabaye less than impressive really. A lot of people rate him on here, but I don't see it. He may be a steady option, but I don't think he'd make a big improvement or anything like that.

Same. He'd be a squad player for us. A good one, but not worth buying for a starting slot.

I had the misfortune to go on a school trip to see Newcastle against Liverpool the other week

I was shocked at how poor Cabaye, Tiote and Sissoko were that day

I wouldn't have any of them anywhere near old Trafford

no fight, no spirit and in the cases of Tiote and Sissoko limited ability

Just read this about Stootman. A ringing endorsement at the end of the Article from Dick Advocaat .

http://www1.skysports.com/football/...target-Kevin-Strootman-needs-to-leave-Holland

PSV Eindhoven boss Dick Advocaat believes Kevin Strootman needs to leave Holland this summer to progress his career.

Strootman is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe after impressing for PSV in the Eredivisie in the last few seasons.

The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham have been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old and Advocaat believes the Holland international would be a success in the Premier League.

"For PSV it would be good if he stays, but for Strootman himself it's better to leave," Advocaat told De Telegraaf.

"He's the reserve captain of the Dutch national squad and PSV will make another step next season. This guy fits everywhere. He's a fantastic player because he knows exactly what his qualities are.

"[He would be good for] Liverpool and Tottenham, but I think he's also good enough for Manchester City and Manchester United.

"Strootman is as good as Gareth Barry. He's a very useful player for every team. Especially when he's surrounded by better players."

Darren Fletcher....it will be like a new signing when he returns,

Don't know why Utd, or anybody else for that matter, have went after Hernanes. A superb midfielder, who'd be very good for us. A goalscorer playmaker was apparently on of the main targets for Moyes and Hernanes would fit that bill perfectly.

If all fails we should stick in a £15m bid for cabaye. We know he wants to leave and dont think Newcastle willl risk having a player who does want to play for them.
We will likely end up with Fellaini. Those two would be a decent window.

We won't sign a midfielder before end of window, and you can quote me on that.

As for Woody, I wonder what's next. Does he continue to take on transfers himself?
:nervous:

We'll get Fellaini.

And we'll probably get Barkley in the next year or two.

31st August and nothing. I can't see us bringing anyone in at this stage. Hopefully, I am wrong.

Crazy to think think that once again we're like 2 days away from having our season heavily depend on carrick staying fit. Everywhere else we have cover for our top players but not in the middle. I don't care if we don't get a big name player I just can't accept that there's no one in world football who could come in, in his role either as a squad player, an upcoming young player or an older player, whom we could get for an acceptable price.

This is the issue. I don't mind if we overpay, get someone who isn't top class, or even just loan someone, we need someone who can do a job if Carrick gets injured. If he had an injury blighted season, and we had no replacement, then it could hit us far worse financially than overpaying for someone. We would lose quite a lot of money if we failed to make it out of our Champions League group and far more if we failed to finish in the top four. If Carrick were to end up unavailable for most of the season, I think these outcomes are possible. Maybe not likely but possible. It's far too big a risk to take.

Yeah I mean I guess we'd buy in January if we had two and althoight I don't think it would be as bad as dropping out I the top 4 I think it could easily cost us the title race, I mean we've still got no idea if ando can stay fit, we'd be looking at clev and giggs/jones in the middle. This is almost 3 summers on the trot now.

I still reckon we will get one in and it comes down to who offers better value - Herrera for £31m or Fellaini for £24m?
Not certain but I reckon their wages would probably be similar.

Herrera.

Fellaini will be easier to get on short notice though.

Fellaini, premier league proven and provides presence/strength/height which we lack. You only have to look at how he dominated us last year in their home game, breathtaking. We couldn't get the ball off him and he caused danger and their team to dominate us in the process.

Exhilarating player.

Fellaini exhilarating? Really?

 breathtaking, exhilarating

He's a good player your description of him just cracks me up.

Herrera. Fellaini is very good but Herrera fits in with the kind of football I want to see united play.

Btw, my gut feeling tells me were not signing anyone. Thought your all like yo know, like.

Why have so many clubs left the bidding for essential players so late? I dont get why market forces create this situation.

I'd go for Felliani in this case. Herrera is an unknown quantity to me.

Bump.

No Kroos.

Fabregas apparently not a priority.

Stootman injured.

So, which midfielder will we sign this summer?

None of the 'big names' anyway. Its just the usual bullshit with United.
