What about Xabi Alonso? He's doing a Ronaldo and hasn't signed a new contract at Madrid. Has two years left on it like Cristiano.
Old. Wouldnt want to move here. High wages.

I've found Cabaye less than impressive really. A lot of people rate him on here, but I don't see it. He may be a steady option, but I don't think he'd make a big improvement or anything like that.
Gut feeling tells me that it will be a long and frustrating summer and we wont get midfielder.
When does the window close?
We won't sign a midfielder before end of window, and you can quote me on that.
As for Woody, I wonder what's next. Does he continue to take on transfers himself?
Crazy to think think that once again we're like 2 days away from having our season heavily depend on carrick staying fit. Everywhere else we have cover for our top players but not in the middle. I don't care if we don't get a big name player I just can't accept that there's no one in world football who could come in, in his role either as a squad player, an upcoming young player or an older player, whom we could get for an acceptable price.
Quoted.
This is the issue. I don't mind if we overpay, get someone who isn't top class, or even just loan someone, we need someone who can do a job if Carrick gets injured. If he had an injury blighted season, and we had no replacement, then it could hit us far worse financially than overpaying for someone. We would lose quite a lot of money if we failed to make it out of our Champions League group and far more if we failed to finish in the top four. If Carrick were to end up unavailable for most of the season, I think these outcomes are possible. Maybe not likely but possible. It's far too big a risk to take.
I still reckon we will get one in and it comes down to who offers better value - Herrera for £31m or Fellaini for £24m?
Not certain but I reckon their wages would probably be similar.
Herrera.
Fellaini will be easier to get on short notice though.
Fellaini, premier league proven and provides presence/strength/height which we lack. You only have to look at how he dominated us last year in their home game, breathtaking. We couldn't get the ball off him and he caused danger and their team to dominate us in the process.I still reckon we will get one in and it comes down to who offers better value - Herrera for £31m or Fellaini for £24m?

Exhilarating player.

Fellaini exhilarating? Really?
Herrera. Fellaini is very good but Herrera fits in with the kind of football I want to see united play.I still reckon we will get one in and it comes down to who offers better value - Herrera for £31m or Fellaini for £24m?

I dunno. We better sign someone or I'm going to find a kermit puppet and .....Bump.
No Kroos.
Fabregas apparently not a priority.
Stootman injured.
So, which midfielder will we sign this summer?
