Which midfielder will we sign this summer?

Would Mata have come if he had been playing consistently for Chelsea - given that he needed a longer run of games to ensure his ticket for the World Cup?
In the same vein that Fabregas wouldn't be at Chelsea if Barcelona didn't want to get rid, right ? You have to understand that it takes three to consummate a deal, three willing parties! Unless you are going the Real Madrid way that's pretty much how things are done when the big teams do a deal amongst themselves.

Still have odd feeling at least one signing will be somebody we haven't been linked with - as hard as that is to believe!

Then maybe Van Gaal will promote one or two from within provided they're good enough.
Other than Pearson none are close to being ready to step into the first team let alone an automatic starter which is what's needed.

Another season of Carrick, Cleverley, Fletcher and Fellaini will cost us top four.

I'll take your word for it because in AUS we have no access to MUTV, so it's hard to know about those in the united academy.

I don't think Pearson is ready yet. But he's probably Manchester United current best U21 centre midfield. But may be you are right close for step into first team and probably might involve in a few match like Lawrence or Wilson last season against Hull.

His the closest to being ready is what I meant to say. If he impresses in pre season then we'll see but if we sign two midfielders we'll be unlikely to see them unless our current options get worst.

I am perfectly aware of this, no worries. :D

My point is:
Players consider a number of factors whom they sign for. Some if not most of these factors are applicable in any given season, others occur once in a while. Ensuring a WC ticket occurs only every 4 years, and some players (Mata is not the only one) will do whatever it takes to grab that, even if they may need to compromise on other aspects; it's a matter of personal priorities.

LVG will probably feel we need a defensive minded midfielder....so realistic options would be Witsel, Luis Gustavo, or possibly Daley Blind.....Then Moussa Sissoko looked the part for France yesterday and scored even though he is a box to box......
Then i'd say there would be decent odds that Strootman will arrive in January

In terms of getting a new realistic winger - we could do worse then signing Valbuena from France and Marseille...and also sign Depay and then loan him back to PSV for another season

Get it done Woody

Witsel or Gustavo would be great additions to our midfield especially Witsel he'd jump at the chance to leave Zenit.

I read that hes on loan to Internacional. His rights are shared by Udinese and Universidad de Chile. I dont understand how these things work but im sure if we wanted to we could get him here.

EDIT: Heres the link http://www.sambafoot.com/en/news/55...hile_midfielder_charles_aranguiz_on_loan.html

I'm hoping he plays as well as he did the first two games against Van Gaal's Dutch team, and we bring him in. Impressive midfielder, and surely gettable for a non-insane fee. Really impressed me. Him and a proper feck off massive CM signing would be a nice summer.

inter had a buying option, and of course they took it, BUT, brazilian Style. 70% of his card belongs to a Business man, and Inter owns 30%. (with the chance to make it to 50% in 2 years). Aranguiz signed till 2019, but a good offer to his real owner, and he can move of course. Maybe this, maybe next summer.

ps. they paid 7M dollars, so double that and start from there.

I don't know but the point was more that we have shown that we can spend big money on players, and big money trumps everything.

I don;t get why people are so much on favor of Witsel. He hardly looks a real deal in Zenit. He played in two matches at WC and hardly looked more than average at best. Certainly was not Belgium's top performer.
His playing style is also not exactly what we need. He is not exactly packing a lot of pace, his passes are more or less conservative. He also plays as the more deeper, defensive midfielder. If we consider his rolem he can be a Carrick's replacement(just on playing style, role alone). But our immediate priority in CM should be a player with much more pace.
I would also point out that Witsel is hardly the enforcing type. He does not really win you ball back that much.

So apparently we're signing Herrera. I don't know much about him (pretty much nothing), but this whole idea of getting an actual midfielder is very exciting, isn't it?

I just hope he isn't a no10 who we will try to adapt to midfield role.

It seems weird that we’re after the same player that we were chasing last summer with Moyes in charge.

His naturally a no.8

We scouted him quite a few times under Fergie as well.

He's not a natural 'number 10' or attacking midfielder. He's played nearer the striker in a more advanced role quite a bit in the last season, but he's a centre midfielder. And a very hard working one.

A bit scrappier than the current/new breed of Spanish midfielder and less secure and consistent with his passing, but still typically quick-thinking on and off the ball. Extremely athletic and intense when trying to win the ball back.

Not one who can control the game on his own, so hopefully if he comes, so does someone else. Also not the calmest or most natural in front of goal.
But he'd still improve us on his own just because he'd be the only midfielder we have who can run past someone, pass forward with one touch, and he'd be our most energetic and best tackler.

Mata and Kagawa would have someone form deep who thinks as quickly as them, plays one-twos, trusts his team-mates enough to give them the ball in tight spaces, and he can play those long passes like Alex Song used to play to Van Persie.

The BBC are reporting it!
