Which midfielder will we sign this summer?

Ilkay Gündogan would be a dream come true. An excellent addition to our squad and one player that would thrive next to Michael Carrick.

What do you make of Sebastien Rode, Jaap? Frankfurt player, incase I didnt get his quite right.

Bayern MunichRode will be transferring to Bayern Munich.[6] Eintracht Frankfurt manager Armin Veh confirmed the transfer.[6] The date is yet to be determined.[6]

Bayern just pissed on another bonfire.

I think Muhammad Diame from West Ham would be a good acquisition, 25 years old, 3.5 million pounds release clause. Can be both a creative and destructive force

Still banging on about Banega? Not seen him at all this season, hows he doing? Never gets mentioned anymore, except by you of course.

Has he recovered from running his car over his foot?

He was sensational the other night in the 5-1 win against Malaga, as well as being brilliant against Real Madrid (although they lost 2-0 to two counter-attack goals). He seems very much like Gundogan though, in the sense that he's primarily a passer and mover but can also comfortably run with the ball. Both are 24 I think, and whereas Gundogan seems a normal player, Banega is still nuts which probably (and sadly) rules us out.

There's no doubt in my mind that we'll sign a midfielder in this window. After all Fergie himself admitted that there's an issue with central midfield.

Well, with Gotze moving to Bayern probably getting Gundogan got that little bit more tougher. Not that it was probable to begin with.

You'd think we'd be losing a few midfielders over the summer like Scholes Anderson, nani. Certainly would be good to see some new blood in there.

If we lose Anderson, Scholes and Fletcher the our midfielders are:

Carrick
Cleverley

Possible options:

Giggs
Powell
Jones
Rooney

We may need more than one midfielder if thats the case. Jones and Rooney probably wont be consistent options there either.

This is probably the first transfer window to which I'm convinced we'll sign a midfielder. In the past, despite the pleading from United fans for one, I was always felt that we could go into the season with what we already have.

Cabaye could be an interesting shout. Newcastle have had a poor season. No Europe next season. Won't suprise me if Cabaye wants to leave to play European football.

Cabaye/Strootman/Matic/Wanyama are my predictions.
Although I wouldn't be totally suprised if Fergie finds an unknown gem, which is always more exciting.

Vidal is the perfect match, no way in hell Juve will sell though.

Gundogan is also less likely now that Götze went to Bayern.

Wilshere would be the best shot, but I doubt it can happen.

Prepare a 40m bid exactly after the game he has to make a guard of honour for RVP and let's see what it will happen.

I would love to see him or Bastian Schweinsteiger at United. I won't be holding my breath though.

What are you basing that on? Because you think they arent good enough in that position? Seems to me we are laying the foundations for them to both play there a lot more.

Really? Jones is actually beginning to settle into the CB position finally. Fergie said he's playing Rooney in midfield due to his lack of form/confidence. That's what I'm basing it on. We aren't going to be pulling up any trees with those two in midfield.

How many times has Jones played CB in 2013, compared to in midfield? Not a rhetoical question, it feels like overwhelmingly more in midfield. And Rooney, still playing in midfield yesterday, while his position up front has been cuckolded....

Anyway, I hope you are right. I swore I wasnt going to get into a midfield debate today, I would just enjoy the moment.

Wilshere and Bale would be an absolute dream.

If we want to catch up to the likes of Braca, Real and Bayern we need to keep improving our team with top players across the board.

I agree. Not some off the standard players people have mentioned above.

I think we need someone who is top class rather than just signing someone for the sake of it. Obviously Wilshere would be absolutely perfect, but I can't see that ever happening (never mind it happening in the summer) so I reckon we should be looking at the likes of Vidal and Gundogan.

That sort of calibre would improve us dramatically.

Can't see Vidal happening. Gundogan is pretty unlikely too atleast this summer.

We might be better of targetting players who are more on the up.

It's not so much that it has to be one of those two, just that it should be someone of that type of quality. For example, I watch a lot of Celtic and think Wanyama is a good player but I don't think he's at the sort of level we should be aspiring to.

I think it would be much more worthwhile for us to spend big and get someone who is top class, even if it costs us thirty million, than it would be to sign someone who isn't much better than what we have purely for the sake of getting more bodies in.

feck it, I'm up for the muppetry, 40 million bid for Fabregas and Song.

Next season

Carrick

Fabregas Song

Kagawa

Fabregas didn't make a dream move back to Barcelona only to leave two years later, he'll stay there well into his 30s. Song is a different case, they signed him thinking he could do the job in defence when asked and he frankly can't. I could see him leaving in the Summer but it won't be to us since we never sign so-called rejects.
