...the squad happen? Friday? I wouldn't be surprised if we are done. I thought Fergie was going to buy but now I am not sure he will or can. As it is we seem to be having issues getting contacts sorted. Anyone else feel our business is completed for the summer?

There's a few threads discussing whether or not our dealings are done this summer I think.

We won't sign anyone.

Thing is, usually when we leave our business late it's for a reason. We signed Berbatov on the last day because Spurs were playing hardball and we ended up paying more than expected. We signed Rooney on the deadline because we wanted to wait one more year before making a move and Newcastle's bid forced us to act quickly. At that point we were heavily linked with both of them and pretty much certain to at least make a bid - now it's much more quiet.

We've usually got our business done by mid-July so we could get players in for a pre-season. Last year we were done after Young signed before the end of June. The season before we got Smalling and Hernandez in even earlier.

Man up people. Apart from 3-4 people at the club nobody knows what is happening. This is how United conduct their business.

The wider world know about it too.

When United contact another club about one of their players then the secret is out. If the other club can keep the matter confidential or not is another matter. If United's price is low then the other club might want to let other parties know about United's offer. The word gets around.

Its never definitive either way. You never stop looking for players. But you don't end up signing every player you're looking at for variety of reasons.

So to answer your (very often) asked question, you never know.

I would be surprised if we don't add at least 1-2 more players. Such thought is echoed by legends like Lou Macari (yesterday) and Paddy (Monday) so we can presume that something is going on at the moment. Lets face it, Scholes/Giggs will be one year older next year, there's still question marks about Fletch + the squad had been trimmed by the departures of Pogba, Park, Owen, Fabio (loan) and Morrison.

If we end up not getting anyone, then we really need to give a serious look on our system and analyze if its working or not. Maybe our wage structure is not as attractive as we think or our scouts are not doing their job well. However lets wait and see.

We need more threads from silly muppets moaning about nothing as if they've got any clue whatsoever what's transfer plans the club has. We've really not got enough of these dumb threads already.

I can only realistically see a back up left back coming in as we have no cover for Evra with Fabio going on loan. After this IMHO it wil depend on who we can sell from Berbatov, Nani and/or Anderson.

At what point can we claim on player insurance for Fletcher? Does he have to surrender his playing license prior to any claim? That could release some cash/wages.

Seriously hope that's not our transfer activity done for gruesome summer. Would he disappointing. Then again, last season we decided the current midfield minus scholes was good enough. So you never know with Fergie and misfielders.

Harsh but true.

No one has a clue whats going on and we already have threads about this. Why make another?

I'd be stunned if we didn't bring a left back in.

There is a long way to go yet but this window is shaping up to something familiar. We sign our attainable targets early on whilst the 'marque' players we are looking at all run off with with other clubs.

That said, I am not bothered if we don't sign anyone else. I would sacrifice trophies this year to see some of our young midfield stars get a real run in the first team.

Christ on a bike. OP may have noticed there was bit of a tournament going on until last week, then straight after that everyone goes on holiday - I know in the past couple of years we've got most of our business sewn up by now, but far too early for such chat.

Although, to be fair, I wouldn't be expecting too many more.

We are skint, we have no money in the bank, and Gill's speech before every summer is fecking pathetic. We spend less than Stoke FFS, the Glazers have ruined this club. Some stupid people say that we've been successful during their era, but it's all thanks to Fergie along with his scouting team. In the PLC days, we would have spent £30m on Modric, now our hands are tied by the debt. It's not even about winning trophies or glory, I hope these american twats feck off ASAP.

Our young midfield stars? We've let nearly all of them go I think.

last summer we spent around 50 million not including big earners leaving like VDS and Scholes

we were able to do that on the back of a champions league run to the final which made us 44 million pounds which practically paid for those transfer

The glazers aren't spending any of their own money obviously and with the drop in income we will see a drop in spending

I do expect another signing but only after we sell Berbatov

Our transfer policy under the Glazers seems to be spend what you win - if it wasn't for Fergie we'd be in serious problems

sad times indeed

I don't want a sugar daddy - just a club who are able to spend the money they make through their commercial appeal and not have owners who use the money to line their own pockets

It is very shite, a midfield is about more than names.

Kagawa and Powell aren't central midfielders, people need to stop putting their names on lists to make them look better.

Anderson and cleverley can't be relied on and giggs and scholes are near 40. Great midfield.

Well, you can say Anderson and Cleverley can't be relied on and Giggs and Scholes are near 40, but you can also say Anderson and Cleverley are great footballers when fit (and hopefully they stay injury free this season) and Giggs and Scholes are wonderful players who have been playing on the highest level for 21 and 18 years, respectively and they are always written off at the beggining of next season and people say they're too old - when the season starts, they prove they're still able to play on the same level they played before.

You can criticize - you'll easily find words to describe your feelings, but you can also praise those midfielders - you'll easily find words to describe your feelings.

In football not everything is either good or bad.

I'd wait until Cleverley has a substantial run of games before declaring him "great". So much hype with him, it'll be ugly in here if he doesn't live up to it.

5 injury hit seasons and inconsistent form, that's why Anderson can't be relied on. He plays a few good games then he's out for months and piles on the pounds. Cleverley has played less than 10 league games for us. Giggs and Scholes cannot play every game, and the main reason Scholes looked so fresh was because he had over half a season out of the game. This wont be the case when the new season starts. Fletcher will probably never return to the level he was at, he may never return at all. I don't see why the midfield weakness is being ignored, it's so blatantly obvious its untrue.

Feel sorry for your intellect.

True.

I expect us to sign another player or two but I do not have high hopes for the caliber of these buys.

Our ability to sign players is not nearly reflective of our stature. We need to offer more competitive wages at times to get our man.

The midfields shite. Been proven 2years in a row. Stop argueing the case!

Carrick
Anderson
Cleverly
Scholes
Kagawa
Giggs
Fletcher (?)
Powell

is hardly shite!

Carrick - Solid
Anderson - Injured alot, nowhere near the class act some seem to think
Cleverly - Young, injury problems, unproven
Scholes - Fantastic last season...but had half a seasons rest
Kagawa - Debatable as to whether he is a 'midfielder'.
Giggs - Poor last season, should not be an option in centre for me.
Fletcher (?) - How can you include a player who is on a leave of abscence?
Powell - Not a midfielder.

So really we have Carrick and Scholes as top performers (the latter will struggle to play two games in a week) and two injury prone players. One has proved to be consistently inconsistent and the other has played a handful of games in first team.

You're including Powell who has played all of his football in League 2, a player who has had to semi retire, and a player who has been moved in from the left wing whose natural position has never been in the centre of the park.

Hardly world beating either!
