What has actually happened to Joe Hart?

In reply to the thread title.

Joe Hart was never that good, but being English he was massively overhyped by the media.

Such a bad keeper. Makes constantly mistakes and atrocious with his feet. Midtable goalie. Bench for City

He was never that good.

He's like that guy at work who's conned everyone into thinking he's actually very good by walking around acting brash and confident. Then you realise how much of a thick cnut he is when you have the misfortune to work with him.

Nothing ever happened to him. He's always been a tosser who can produce a top performance now and again.

Never has been consistent enough to be goalkeeper for real top club and that's why he's never been seriously linked elsewhere.

No competition for his place with England.

Pep will can him.

If Pep sells him I wonder where he will end up. Perhaps Pool (or did they sign that German?) or West Ham?

Tottenham, Arse, Chelsea already have better.

He seems like such a hateful person. The screaming and cursing at the ball boy sticks in the mind.

He is clearly very talented but he never was a top keeper. He usually has 4-5 absolutely magical games for City in a season (as his reflexes are brilliant) and a couple of high-profile mistakes (usually the positional mistakes or an error of judgement about the speed/trajectory of the ball).

Epitome of media lauded Englishman. Came in a time to rescue the national team and keep the great tradition of English GKs going. The reality he is just another overpaid average footballer. Easily the worst GK of the top teams in England. De Gea, Lloris, Courtois, Cech all streets ahead. On par with Mignolet in terms of ability. Long shots are his kryptonite as he is short is stature but more importantly doesn't move his feet quickly enough. Pep will have him out of team by January.

He's still a good keeper. Poor for the goal today, but not as bad a goalkeeper as some make out on here.

He is a good keeper who has the ocassional howlers. He does make excellent saves and over a season saves more points for city than costs them.

Is he the best? No. But he is hardly Mignolet level that he needs replacing right away. He is like cech. Has howlers ocassionally but still makes top saves most games.

Shouts for valdes to replace him is just crazy. Like valdes never had howlers .

He really really isn't.

I think he's pretty decent. Terrible for their goal, though. We're spoiled with De Gea who makes about 2 errors a season.

He's really weak with the ball at his feet though. Can't see Pep keeping him first choice.

Yeah he's alright. Maybe, slightly below the level of keeper a club like city need. Probably too inconsistent too, he seems to yoyo season to season between good and error prone.

These sum up what I'm seeing. It's gone one long enough that it seems more to do with his ability than form.

I can't help but think it's the consistency. At his best he is easily one of the best three or so keepers in the Premier League and the run away first choice for England. In his ebbs, he's someone City need to replace if they want to improve.

Maybe his talent isn't very well spread out among a keeper's core skills. Maybe he's just not as complete a keeper as it seemed.

By no means is he a bad keeper when you look at him over time. His consistency is what keeps him out of the elite.

This.

No doubt!

Valdes didn't appear to be a good Premier League keeper. Too short and vulnerable to crosses. He looked understandably rusty, but probably unlikely to return to his best.

He wasn't a passenger at Barcelona, but he wasn't ever really key to their defense. He was good and a long running part of successful teams, but someone they probably could have replaced with an upgrade. But, he was a Barça man who was good enough and understood their system well. He wasn't there so long for being truly world class.

Valdes at his best wasn't better than Hart at his best. Someone might be able to make an argument he makes less mistakes, but only if the airial component is left out.

Even in the one game vs hull he dropped the ball twice and thankfully the hull players who put the ball into the net from those mistakes were offside. Admittedly He made some excellent saves too but the point is he isn't someone reliable. Hart may not have the sweeping keeping abilities but if I had a choice between hart and valdes as they are today, it's an easy decision.

That's not even considering his influence to city and England as a leader and a fan favourite. I remember him coming to Rio s rescue when someone tried to attack him after the 3-2 win (the rvp freekick). That's something that made me respect him more at a time the likes of Wilshere and Walcott takes a dig at Spurs every chance they get

For someone excellent with the ball at his feet, valdes sure does stupid stuff. I remember him trying to dribble past di Maria and that was when he was in 2012 or something when he was better than now.

Actually a bit of defence of Hart here.
He never was very comfortable in dealing with long-range belters, i mean you look at his good seasons, and even there he did let in couple of 30 yard strikes. It is his shortcoming, always was. Does not exactly excuse his mistake today, but every player has strong and weak points. He is extremely good in close range battles, even this season when Hart was not in top form he made some great saves from close range. He also knows went to come and how to deal with 1-on-1 situations. We can take that game against Barcelona last year or against Real this season, he made a lot of genuinely great saves.

I like him as a person and he's certainly not a bad keeper. Not on the level of Buffon, Neuer, De Gea etc but there's no shame in that.
