What exactly has Rooney done?

If Rooney was really the 'pulse and heart' of United, he wouldn't be shunted out to the wing.

So being on the wing completely prevents a player from being the 'pulse and heart' of a team?

I think the way Rooney attacks any role he's given by Ferguson, even playing on the wing, proves he's the 'pulse and heart' of the team.

Zidane often played on the left wing for France, even at his peak, and still dominated games, still 'ran' the show.

Never mind that a certain Mr Cristiano was playing as a genuine winger in his real outstanding breakthrough season

Whatever. There's been a lot of bollocks about how Rooney is 'overated'. That has and always will be bollocks. But the people uttering that nonsense are going to have their eyes opened in the next few seasons. This guy is the bollocks, and to some extent I can see him being liberated by this turn of events. Get the other fecking players to do the dirty work, lets have Rooney up where it matters, because teams can't live with him

Ronaldinho too, at Barca. But I suspect they were for different reasons. Rooney should be playing as a classic no 10.

Can't see why he couldn't do that with Ronaldo around to be honest!!! Great players should be able to play with each other!! But Ribery and Rooney in the same team sound frightning, if it happens

Mainoldo

He did, he's been excellent

But some folk have been too far up one man's backside to notice

Hopefully he clenches his buttocks and they get stuck in there all the way to Madrid

The consensus by many was that Rooney was better in 04-05 and 05-06. And a case can be strongly made for last season as well.Ronaldo had a far better season in 07-08, and a better season in 06-07.You could argue that Rooney has been more influential at international level overall.

Feel free to toddle off with Ronaldo into the sunset mate

Not happy that the entire thread hasn't been dedicated to ripping me for asking a question everyone asked me of Ibrahimovic?

The majority of sensible posters have said that it isn't exactly a world of difference when comparing two of the worlds top forwards. The majority accept that and the majority would take Rooney anyday, after all he's a symbol of United and a great player.

My own opinion mirrors that, although basing it on the past couple of years where Ibrahimovic has been undoubtedly the driving force and key instrument in everything good inter have achieved i think he is slightly ahead of Rooney. Rooney has been one of a number of key players for United but United being a fantastic team have relied on others as heavily or even more heavily than rooney in the last few years in my opinion.

In the past 3 seasons Rooney has made 143 appearances for United scoring 61 goals.

At the same time Ibrahimovic has made 116 appearances for Inter scoring 66 goals.

Yes Serie A is not as strong as the Premiership but it is still a top league.

They have both picked up 3 league titles in as many seasons with Rooney also gaining a CL winners medal. Individually Rooney has picked up one player of the month award for November 2007 whilst in the same time Ibrahimovic has been Serie A Foreign Player of the Year, Serie A Footballer of the Year, Serie A Top Scorer and been in the UEFA Team of the Year.

I think they are both brilliant and any team would have either with glee, right now i think Ibrahimovic is better, hopefully he gets a move to the prem now.

Why you cant accept that someone might rate a player slightly higher at this moment in time based on many factors is beyond me. It's not like i'm saying Dirk Kuyt is a slightly better player with no reasoning to back up such a rediculous claim we are talking about two of the worlds best...

Can Rooney blossom the way he did when he was 18 again or the days of that Rooney have long gone? By that i mean, could he dribble past opponents with sheer power, skill and pace and gain himself an oppirtinity to score.

Oh and is Rooney more naturally gifted than Ronaldo?

Berba seems to think so.

I think Fergie took what made Rooney so powerful and harnessed the bull. Is that good? Eh, his temper is gone and he's "smarter" with his play but we miss the wild bull scoring incredible goals as easy as he held off two defenders and than dribbled by them for the goal. You take the good and the bad and the price to pay was some of the steam that made him that.

Fergie obviously has other plans for him and some claim he's trying to mold Rooney off Scholes which I don't see at all. He's back to his normal position but he's changed, you can see it in the way he plays.

Did Fergie try to fix something that wasn't broken by switching his position and ended up breaking it by trying to put him how he was but with a different mentality?

Would you take 09' Rooney over say 05? I'd take 09.

rooney is superb.

you can't compare rooney with ronaldo and messi, especially now considering the attacking supporting cast the other two have which end up creating tons of space and time for those two respectively.

Is FranklyVulgar a massive spastic?

Everyone seems to think so.

Less people than you would think, read post 157/169 in this thread for my actual view.

This was a thread created by Brad in order for people to have a go at me. He took something i said and took it out of context. Naturally a lot of posters read one thing and jump on the bandwagon. Basically the retarded posters.

If you think i'm a "massive spastic" want me to kill myself, or wish my mother killed me at birth for having a different opinion to you like some of the other well rounded and respectable members of the cafe then good day to you.

Don't see anything wrong with that as an argument to be honest.

Rooney is our best player.

Until June 2009, Ronaldo was our best player and he is one of the 2 best players in the world. The team is weaker without him, and I don't understand the revisionism which says that we are a better team now and will be more successful since he is gone. When your best player leaves it's a setback.

Yet, no one has answered my questions...

It's not always a set-back, but when you replace him with one or two players who are much worse than said player, it's extremely likely that it will be.
