I invite the Caf to answer this question posed by FranklyVulgar

My tuppence worth... I find it utterly bizarre I keep coming onto a United forum, talking to United fans apparently, and being told I'm daft or stupid because I rate Wayne Rooney over such and such a player. And the worst is when complete retards come up with comments such as "What exactly has Rooney done?". feck me silly

A lot more in major international tournaments than Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Scored more goals in the knockout stages of the champions league than Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

In fact the only thing Zlatan has done, over Rooney, is scored more goals in Serie A than him.

I think you only get that response when you say you rate Rooney over Ronaldo.

They are easily our two best players (peak wise) and Rooney over anyone but Ronnie is a fair comment

But when comparing him to Ronnie, it's fairly obvious he hasn't done as much...in terms of individually winning us things

...Certainly to people outside United circles at any rate

He probably isn't as good as Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The key thing is which players are you referring to?

I've seen both live.

I love Rooney but when Ibrahimovic can be arsed he's amongst the very best, and generally speaking his goalscoring record is a bit better. Rooney's clearly a better team player, and is better in many respects. It's a close call, though.

 Over Zlatan??

well in that case....A lot more is the answer

A LOT MORE!

Should I list them?

1. Been the out standing young player in an international tournament - Rooney Check. Zlatan Nope

2. Been Instrumental in winning of Domestic Title/Trophies - Rooney Check. Zlatan Check

3. Scored important Goals in Champions League Knock Out Rounds - Rooney Check. Zlatan Nope

4. Been instrumental in Winning of Champions League - Rooney Check. Zlatan Nope

5. Have Impressive Youtube Skills Show Reels - Rooney Check. Zlatan Double Check

any more?...I'm sure there is?

Rooney is quite comfortably better than Ibrahimovic, whether the latter can be arsed or not.

He's played a key role in helping United win 3 league titles in a row and reach two European finals, in a far more competitive league.

What has Ibra done thats better than that?

End of debate, Rooney is always arsed, never gives in and makes me proud everytime I see him play.

I know Swedes who have been disgusted with him and his attitude at International level. He has all the ability in the world but if ability was all you needed Mads Timm would still play for us!

Surely any Manchester United supporter would know what Rooney has done. Hs influence on our team has been considerable since he joined. You could say he is one of the main driving forces behind our success.

In regards to Ibrahimovich there are few who compare to his potential but the difference is that Rooney delivers on a consistent basis regardless of the stage. There are more question marks about him in the big games than Rooney. He is older and up to now he still has not answered most of them.

He's better when he can be arsed eh?!:lol::lol:

Good grief

I think someone had a list of witty responses he made to a journalist asking him questions. Which is clearly more important than proving you're the better footballer on the pitch. So Zlatan wins hands down.

Is any player 'comfortably' better than Ibrahimovic? Must say, I'm fairly surprised that many posters on this site don't rate Ibrahimovic; he's pretty much the upgraded Berbatov.

Zlatan's quite over-rated imo. I think Rooney has nearly everything over him - or atleast when he is the same age, he should be vastly superior aslong as he avoids any major setbacks. Look at Rooney's short career but trophy haul, pretty good.

 Great thread mate.

Wayne Rooney is world class, in my opinion, but not because he's world class at anything, but he's quite good at just about everything on a pitch.

I'd take him over most players in the world in a heartbeat.

As for Zlatan, he's over-rated, good, VERY good, a great striker, but he's not as great as everyone says he is.

Rooney is one of the best two-way players in the world, and he's still improving.

Better if he can be arsed?

Aaron Lennon would be better if he learnt how to control and pass the ball effecively!. Matt Le Tissier would be better if he could have been bothered to keep in shape...It's a completely moot point.

It's not who you are...but what you do that defines you! - Zlatans done jack shit!

Why when players like Ibrahimovic are mentioned we always get the same old crap about 'if he can be arsed' ........... rubbish he just is not that good.

Ibrahimovic is more tecnically gifted than Rooney IMO. He's also the better goalscorer. But hasn't flourished on Europe's biggest stage whereas Rooney has. That's really the difference. Obviously Rooney being considerably younger has the all round game to match or even surpass him. But I reckon currently Ibrahimovic is the better play despite his big game bottling.

I don't buy this "he's world class when he can be arsed" bollox. If he can't produce consistently or on the big occasions then he's clearly not all that. Mentality is important for a footballer, not just technical skills. If we rated players purely on skills then Denilson would be a legend.

You only really see the value of Rooney when he isn't playing. The team as a whole looks far less likely to score. I'd still make him the most important player of the 07/08 season.

Rooney is.

Don't get me wrong, if I had the option to swap Rooney for any footballer in the world, I wouldn't. However, to suggest that Rooney and Ibrahimovic aren't even comparible in terms of ability, current form or anything else is bewildering, in my opinion.

Like I say, if Ibrahimovic isn't that great after all, then what do many on here make of Berbatov? The former is quicker, more agile, stronger, better from range, a better dribbler and is capable of the extraordinary. If Rooney shits on Ibrahimovic, then the difference between him and Berbatov must be absolutely vast.

If a player always tends to not-turn up in his goalscoring boots in international and european tournaments - is he really a better goalscorer than Rooney?

Not sure what you mean by technically more gifted imo the only part of the game Ibrahimovic is better than Rooney is heading.

Clearly not for his National Team. But domestically (I know everyone will bring up Serie A being a weaker league) he's more prolific than Rooney. Obviously there's other circumstances to be considered i.e Wayne not playing in his natural position and his primary objective in the team is perhaps not to score goals especially when playing on the left.

Why do all your posts either end up containing Berbatov or Tevez or both?

Not sure what you mean by technically more gifted imo the only part of the game Ibrahimovic is better than Rooney is heading.

His dribbling is better, or at least more technical i.e close control. Whereas with Rooney there's more aggression involved when he goes past a man. Rooney's technique is clearly impressive, but IMO Ibrahimovic's is out of this world. He just has the ability to do something special like his backheel against Bologna and some incredible through balls. Not saying Rooney isn't capable of this, as he evidently is, just that Ibrahimovic seems to do something out of the ordinary more often.

I wonder if Rooney himself would think he's better than Ibrahimovic?

Doubt it.

Vulgar is Ibra's mum. To be fair though, it is equally stupid to say Zlatan is only half as good as Rooney. They're both at the same level, but Rooney edges it for scoring more in the CL and performing better at the international stage.
