What’s Real Madrid’s secret?

Standards. They’d never accept the likes of Lindelof, McTominay etc being at their club for season after season.
The fans hound the club if results drop, club chase best players/highest potential players in the world.
All that plus their history and their location, that’s why they are what they are.

2014 to 2017

Thank you! I was watching some recent Madrid matches (2019 to 2023) and it's impressive how many times the ball goes through him still even in his latter years.

What strikes me is how he always tries to move the ball forward and under pressure he is so calm aswell, just keeps hitting that ball.

A question for Madrid fans or anyone who has watched closely.

Which season or specific games can Toni Kroos be seen at his absolute peak ?

Hmm, feck that is a difficult one. He is incredibly consistent for over a decade now. I think the lesser seasons were 2019-2021, but the entire team wasn’t doing that great so that might cloud my memory.

This season he gets cover by the younglings covering ground (poor Fede  ), but it allows us to play him and he controls the game. The Girona game comes to mind this season at home. I don’t think he misplaced a single pass. Just distributing the ball from deep without breaking a sweat. One of the smartest players I’ve seen.

Standards. They’d never accept the likes of Ole or ETH to be given more than 2 years.
Eth would have been sacked for finishing bottom of that CL group immediately.
In the 41 years since Munoz left the club, the 31 full-time Real managers have lasted an average of one year and four months, or 70 games.

Thank you aswell!

The thread is what's real madrid's secret but actually Kroos may be a good part of the answer in regards to the not so distant past

Agreed with that as well mate

Anyone who still doesn't get it?

You need to be good to come here, but when referees lean towards you in every game it becomes much easier.

They are also very lucky apart from obvious referee bias. Should be down 2-0

it helps having referees turn a blind eye to any big decision that needs making.

They are mostly lucky but have winners always in the team

Confidence. You can play with huge confidence when you know that when your luck ends, the referees start.

Jamie Carragher will be along at some point next season to state that City have been ‘the best team in Europe for the last 5 years.’

Ref, luck and believe (due to their history).

Watching the final there is no doubt that the better team was Dortmund.

The world best team currently is City.

Success breeds success.
Status, properly managed, builds more status.
They are the undisputed glamour club to beat all fashionable clubs.
RM have always placed an emphasis on a solid, top class DM and then added world class attacking flare on top of that foundation.

They’ve got a great crop of young players, to continue onwards.

Money and global appeal. They can literally sign any player in the world.
They have spent an average of £51m per season on transfers in the past 4 years. So I disagree.

Anyways the "secret" is standards. Neither the club nor their supporters allow for romanticism of players/managers past when they are effective contributors to the club. They make decisions swiftly and decisively with their personnel and have no issues selling club legends when they might be past their best and a great offer comes in. They have a culture of serial winning veterans that instill that mindset into the newer/younger players they bring in who then pass it on as the cycle continues.

It's not really rocket science, just a huge club that's also run exceptionally well and maximizes it's potential.

Best midfielders in the world (modric, kroos, bellingham. for future: tchouameni, camavinga etc) + most promising strikers of Brazilian football (vini jr, rodrygo, endrick).

Some identified and bought at a very young age.

Some end up not working out at Real Madrid (Odegard) or nowhere (Renier)

Their scouting network is great, but it has criteria in recent years (European midfielders + Brazilian strikers).

There's also a bit of luck involved. Like Neuer's mistake on Wednesday.

They also know when it's time to let a player leave, regardless of name or status.

It's about making less mistakes than the opponent . That's how quality is defined .

So, uh, who is even gonna rate Mbappe winning UCL next few seasons, when the club already did just fine without him?

Jose just confirmed it’s Perez and a select few more.

This. Anybody talking about refs or revenue distribution is just coping.

Real are on another level to everyone else, and everyone in football should aspire to be more like them.

That's one of the reasons yes. Although one of the least important ones when it comes to Madrid the last couple of years.

Good scouting and high standards.

That’s not the only reason though. They have the most allure of any club in the world. It’s way easier for them to sign players - either at their peak or those who have massive potential.

If City or even Liverpool were winning 3 CL in a row, the likes of Mbappe would still choose Madrid.

They have the best players (who want to be there), top class managers, and the highest standards

Whoever questions their secret just needs to go on our "player performances forum" and see our standards about performances. And then check at their forums. Highest standards brings you highest prizes.

Their senior and more experienced players are winners.
They don’t keep the inconsistent and mentally weak and move them on.
By contrast, Utd hang on to those sort of players, even put some of them on a pedestal, just because they occasionally shine, or have golden periods.
Which approach fosters the best team ethos and sets the standards and winning environment for the young players to aspire too?

There's no luck involved.

They're just very experienced, know how to ride the storm and take their chances. Also having sky high standards, world class players and a great coach helps.
