Westminster Politics

This government really are scumbags. Angela Raynor was spot on. Most of the criticism of her comments were probably driven by those on Boris Johnson's knighthood list!

I guess they found that magic money tree again!

But no money to pay for pay rises.

Fun Fact - The UK has spent more money on housing asylum seekers in 2023 than they are giving to France here.

Just to put the spending into perspective.

And it's completely a political choice. These people(sorry, 'immigrants') could be working and paying taxes while their long term status is decided. Or they could simply be processed much more quickly.

The self-proclaimed party of low taxes and fiscal responsibility, is DELIBERATELY wasting money time after time. It's not even up for debate, the facts are right in front of anyone who's not in complete denial.

Never understood why asylum seekers are not able to work while they wait. It is surely a win-win for everyone?

You'd think so. Would surely help with integration too, as another benefit to everyone.

Because the entire system is designed to dehumanise them and make it an absolute ordeal. It's all about "deterrence".

Obviously short sighted as feck, but then to the point that bloke on QT made the government are purely making this a political issue in order to have something to actually chat about when the election rolls round in a year's time.

What's hilarious/really unbelievably depressing is that they constantly contradict themselves by making a point that it's a "global" problem (so they can't be blamed for the massive rise in channel crossings), but act completely unilaterally by refusing to cooperate with - or at least deliberating making out like they aren't cooperating with - Europe. Because we're mega Brexit and all that.

Oh yeah, another depressing thing (it's never ending) - Labour can't even attack the policy properly, because they probably back the whole thing only wouldn't use the same language.

IIRC Germany issues temporary VISAs to allow asylum seekers to work whilst awaiting their decision.

A sensible country might even use the money to provide extra housing and infrastructure so as not to inconvenience the locals too much.

But that would require a desire to fix the problem.

absolutely wild stuff.

"If we were nuked, where would you go James?"
"I'd go to Greece"
"Yeah, Greece is a nice place"

What on Earth was the point the caller was trying to make there!?

Like most idiots that think about calling in to radio shows....think they have a bulletproof argument no one has thought of "it's not racist if I call it culturalist" and when challenged with even the simplest retort, go into panic mode because you realise you're on radio and then the nuke stuff comes flying out their mouths.

But in all seriousness, what he was trying to say, without actually saying it, was "you know i'm right, you'd only migrate to white christian countries if you were forced to leave."

Looks like the UK which has no money for pay rises for working people or for the nhs will suddenly grow a few new branches on the money tree soon.

As always, privatise profits and socialise losses. Always money available to bail out companies even if they fecked themselves up. Nothing to bail out citizens who get shafted without doing anything wrong though.

I pretty much posted the same earlier in the bank thread.
Poverty in this country is a political choice, enforced by those who decry handouts whilst at the same time helping themselves to the states coffers. And yet we're supposed not to be too mean to these people??

Let them heat lake.
