Westminster Politics

They're a waste of time until about a day before the election though. Just about every poll in the country had Corbyn as PM up until the actual votes were cast.
This isn't close to being true. They all had a sizeable Tory lead throughout the campaign.

Nah, he's wrong, @Maticmaker from redcafe says that expecting some decency, honesty and/or competency from the people running the country is naive. Bercow doesn't know what he's talking about.
It’s all these people have now to justify their vote. I also keep hearing “well they’re all the same” as some vague justification for voting the absolute failures that are in power.

This was the opinion polling in the run up to it. Maybe it didn't reverse a couple of days before, but that year everybody knew an election was coming and a lot of people thought Corbyn was going to win.

Well if they really did, they must have been naive in the extreme.
First to actually believe in opinion polls.
And secondly to think that the weak, muddled and incoherent policies being made up on the hoof were going to result in Corbyn winning the election.
And we all know the outcome.
And I am a Labour supporter by the way.
It was sadly doomed to failure in the most comprehensive manner.

I actually know John Bercow somewhat personally. When I first met him, fully expected him to be an absolute nob.

Complete opposite, one of the nicest guys in that line of work you'll meet, genuine gent. Does actually care for people.

He's an Arsenal fan though...

I believed all his lies about Brexit but I don’t believe the bad things he has said about the Conservative party since he has left and I certainly won’t believe his pictures.

Why do you guys want Boris gone ?

You have the concern about someone worse potentially following him, but that shouldn't stop you from wanting the right thing to happen. He's made a mess of literally everything he's touched. Is a nasty piece of work anyway despite his affable oaf act, and wouldn't know the truth if it bit him on the ass.

Correction... I said extremely naive... Bercow should know what he's talking about.... but he doesn't.

I'm starting to hope that Boris actually lasts until the next election, as that's the best route for Labour to get a foothold.

I can see dishy Rishi or even Truss being able to wash away the sins of Johnson if they were on the ballot box.

The problem with this is that Boris is still a bit of an election magnet, who can win an election through his pure "charisma". People like Boris and think he's affable. That plays well in elections. If Labour can actually get rid of Boris after he just led the party to their biggest victory since Thatcher, and he's replaced by a charisma vacuum like Sunak or Truss, that is a MASSIVE win for the party. Especially with the Tories trailing in the polls, where Sunak would actually have to convince people to come back to the party.

It's not like Sunak himself is massively popular at the moment either.

That turning point in the dark blue line around June is boris becoming pm. He had the win secured simply by getting in and replacing may. Labour had no leads since he got in, and couldn't produce the local minute comeback they did during the 2017 elections either.

62% disapproval for Boris as well feels even more significant. He really might have to go.

The Labour strategy of doing absolutely fecking nothing and lulling the tories into a false sense of security of being openly crooked/evil enough for people to not quite so easily ignore finally paying dividends.

I think if Tories lost the by election next week to replace Owen Paterson then Johnson is finished. That election is only happening because of Tories getting caught in a mess of their own doing. Betting markets show Lib Dems favourites because of tactical voting. It's a seat that has never been held by anyone not from the tory party.

Not 'potentially worse.' Every single tory would be worse, and we know how good they are at regicide. I hate to think how many a true tory would have thrown until the bus in this pandemic. Boris is an incompetent oaf, but other than brexit his policies are pretty centrist. Better the enemy you know... Imagine Priti Patel elected leader....

Because a racist liar shouldn’t be Prime Minister.

See above.
