Westminster Politics

Hands up all those who haven't bent the lockdown rules over the past 15 months.

Many of us will have slightly bent the rules in some way shape or form behind closed doors, I’m not say all, nor am I saying “most”

just many

But “all of us” aren’t the rule makers, Hancock is in a position of power whom made the rules…..lead by example…….busted

Cummings isn’t a fan - he seems to lack the self awareness to realise him tricking the PM into sacking a minister makes him sound like a detestable cnut. Also liking the narrative of Sunak being responsible for furlough despite every other major country doing something fecking similar.

I don't think he gives a feck. He knows he's a dick, and that many in the country think he's a dick. He just wants to be a big swinging dick.

“If I hadn’t tricked the PM into doing something he didn’t want to do” is not the flex he thinks it is. It’s contemptible and should see him barred from any government building for life.

‘I worked against our elected head of government. Because I know best’

Absolute wounder.

Why do you feel the need to make excuses for him? It’s all going to come out about him now. He doesn’t need or deserve your sympathy. Save that for his kid’s knowing they have a shithouse dad

What a complete plonker!

This government has been riding on the wave of the successful Covid Vaccine programme, even though the vast majority of the credit should go to the NHS.
I am wondering how much this shambles will adversely affect their popularity.

The thing is, it's better the devil you know. Despite everything, he's been dealing with the pandemic for 15 months now and has gained considerable experience. Is it the right time for a new boy to come in, especially who they've chosen?

They've been slinging dirt at him for a while now and now it's stuck. He's done the honourable thing, at least, but it may not necessarily be the best thing as regards dealing with the pandemic.

I'm guessing that's a CCTV image and some smart arse thought it might be fun to leak it to the press?

The guy's a flaming thundercnut.

Just because he’s been in the job doesn’t mean he’s the best person for it. He’s come across in that time as uncaring, in it for him and his mates and s a liar, one of the boys. There’s all kinds of mud yet to come out now that he’s our of office.
I don’t think that cctv is new, he was wanted out and the Tories found a way. He’s a dirt bag but just a cog in the machine of this particular grubby administration

What amazes me is neither of them appears to have known there was a camera there?
And they both work in this place everyday... my word, wonders never cease?

I read the furlough part as being if they hadn’t got rid of him there wouldn’t be one.
I don’t know how that squares up with the timeline though

You're right, and I can't help but feel it's a united effort to deflect from the really shit things that have come out from this story. "Man has affair" is easier to handle from a media point of view than "man gives mistress's family millions in taxpayers money".

I agree there is a 'whiff' of stage-management going on here... e.g. how come Hancock and his friend didn't know there was a camera covering the (exact) spot where they were doing their 'canoodling'? Lots of other sins may have been covered up by this 'affair', good day to bury bad news, perhaps?

Agreed but for me, it's more about the type of person you want to be. He could have come out of this looking like a champion of the people but now he looks like a spoiled kid that has had his chocolate bar taking from him!

He’s obviously got no control and no filter.

the other problem, is that he clearly has valuable insight into one of the biggest events in our recent history. But, now it’s just personal - you can’t believe a word he’s saying.

'Why' are 'you' putting so many 'words' in 'inverted' commas?

Yeah but by implication that insinuates Rishi was a key reason for it. When in reality it was a necessity every major nation has implemented in some form - it would have happened regardless of who was Chancellor.

Fair point. Maybe it wouldn’t have happened as quickly

Exactly! Although, there are still those that are drinking it all in and are assisting him in his pathetic attempts to stay relevant!
You don’t believe any of it? I don’t like Cummings, in fact I hate him for brexit but his accusations are against Boris and his buddies. Which makes me think it’s not all lies he’s telling. Whether it’s self serving or not is irrelevant at this point

I didn't say none of it will be true but he has made it hard to see the woods for the trees. I voted for Brexit and haven't changed my mind but I was never struck on him with his sulking about in the dark corridors of Westminster!

there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s telling a lot of truths - but when it’s interspersed with lies, exaggeration add self serving fabrication and revisionism, which bits do you believe?

Amazing how Brexiters don't believe Cummings now but believed every word five years ago without question.

What's Hancock's next job? Home Secretary, Chancellor, Foreign Secretary, next round of musical chairs when another numpty's position becomes untenable.

Suspect he will find a soft landing as a non exec on bupas board and and any other private health firm he can make some money from

I think he's finished from front bench politics for the foreseeable future

Or maybe even a marriage guidance counsellor.

You’re right he will be back in a year

I think it's disgusting that an elected official has, once again, been caught being a corrupt piece of shit on camera. I hope the government stamp out this corruption whistleblower once and for all.

The bits that you can verify independently which, for many of his claims, is possible to a reasonable extent.

Not especially. Much of it (initial herd immunity policy, care homes, PPE stock, nepotism and contracts awarded to entirely unsuitable firms, etc) is readily verifiable. His self aggrandising and selective confessional declerations are largely irrelevant in many regards.
However, it didn't really take Cummings to highlight this really. He's just added some anecdotal colour.

I don”t particularly care what Hancock has been doing with his hancock but the fact he was repeatedly using his gmail account rather than his official ministerial email stinks to high heaven. No doubt all the correspondence relating to the contracts handed out to his mates will be mysteriously unavailable if and when the official enquiry eventually takes place.
