Westminster Politics

The people, but they don't care.

Apparently Priti Patel has spent over £100k of public money on lashes & eyebrows in the last 12 months, and nobody will care enough to hold them to account for shite like this.

edit - this whole thread is insane, her expenses look more like money laundering than legitimate spending & if it is legitimate then what the actual feck?! and if it's money laundering then seriously, why has nobody set something on fire yet?!

Lot of sympathy for Patel. Realised very soon after seeing a diet consultant that she had no chance. Threw her efforts at her eyebrows instead.

Blows me away that neatly every shot of Patel in the media is of her from the shoulders up. Most shots of the opposition are extremely unflattering. It’s a very subtle management of her image by an entire industry. I’m not even vaguely suggesting she be body shamed, but there’s such a stark difference.

She’s not that unattractive to an outsider like me. There’s a quality there.

Until I read or hear something she writes or says.

I'd have to disagree with you profoundly given the nature of the bill.

There's a better chance of getting support from other less vocal strata of society through peaceful protest rather than violent. Hopefully the cause will swell and we'll see mass protests. People get turned off by rioters. I'd say the tories are praying that people kick off and give them the publicity they need to demand passage of the bill.

Peaceful protests do not make the news, do not get into anyone’s consciousness and do not make anyone listen.

‘People’ get turned off... how many? It’s just numbers. You’re probably 100% correct, more people that voted the Tories into an 80 seat majority will be turned off.

Buuuuut. Most of me just thinks; burnt it all down when all other options are exhausted.

I replied to your other post and conceded you were right.

But I still think shit needs to burn to change things. Marching and kneeling hasn’t worked.

I get the sentiment but I think you might want to get used to the idea that you've lost. Adam Curtis always ends his docs with the daft sentiment that we can change everything back to better. It sounds nice but it really isn't going to happen.

Oh dude. I’m pushing 40, working for a tenuously ESG-led Financial Services company. I’m a Champagne socialist if ever there was one. I concede my morals far too often.

I know it’s gone. But I still support the people I wish I was.

I mean, look around you at the young people. They just don't inspire me that much. Most of the loudest voices in this thread probably wouldn't dream of going to a protest and put their job or whatever in jeopardy. It's why Labour is flailing...people get angry about stuff but most aren't being exploited by capitalism any more, they enjoy the gifts that it showers upon them. iPhones, HDTVs, Netflix, lattes and the like.

I think in 50 years when dystopia has really taken hold then you might get an uprising, but it isn't going to happen over the stuff I read in the CE Forum.

The 16-30 year old set definitely flail, dramatise and amplify the inconsequential rather than mobilise to change the important things.

It’s upsetting.

Both sexual incontinence and lying are priced in with Johnson,. No one will care - just Boris being Boris - even though other politicians (Tories included) would be under deep scrutiny over this situation. Much as you may loathe the man, you have to admit this jester/Lord of Misrule public persona that he has crafted (with media contrivance) is highly effective with large swathes of the public, even to the point that 150,000 deaths don’t move the polls..

So Trumpian. Actually, your whole spot on post is.

No mention regarding this on the news this morning. Fecking disgraceful.

Andrew Marr’s copy of The Mirror apparently got lost this morning when he was reviewing the days headlines. I for one am absolutely shocked.

Unbelievable really. You'd think this day and age blatant media bias would be impossible to get away with.
