Westminster Politics

As in do I think that there was a big conspiracy behind it? Not sure what you mean.
I genuinely don't mean this as gotcha type lolz you got wrong thing(I'm pretty much wrong all the time on here). It's more that you and some other posters didn't question the original statement when it was first released and took it as stated fact. Has you're trust in these types of statements changed ?

Can I help you?

Yes it's poor from A&S for releasing details of what they portrayed as confirmed injuries. Pretty basic stuff to be honest.
I was talking about Tories so okay. Considering this is the politics thread and also because I've had to excuse my comments to you and point out that a lot of my relatives are coppers before since you take every criticism directed towards the police as a personal insult.

Some coppers are arseholes. Some non coppers are arseholes. The only ones who aren't assholes are you and me. Never forget that.

No-one is suggesting a big conspiracy are they?

I don't know. That's why I asked?

I think when you get a press release of that nature you're going to find the majority of people will take it as fact (because it should be).

With regards to my trust in the future yes it has changed a little.

I don't take anything as a personal insult so don't worry. If I did I wouldn't bother posting. @Sweet Square quoted us together so assumed you were referring to me. No bother.

It's a non story but i have always wondered why we seem so reluctant to display the Union Jack. In France or Italy or Switzerland you'll see their flags on anything remotely official, and Americans will put a flagpole up on just about any flat surface they can find.

Italians display their flag more than the UK. I see them everywhere and they are very proud of their history. I'm not a fan of displays of patriotism for effect, but getting wound up about official offices of Her Majesty's Government flying the flag and having portraits of the head of state on display seem daft to me.

Some people just like to have a moan and that's up to them.

It’s because this new flag fetishism represents a shift towards cynical populism in the post-Brexit era. We used to be better than that. And, unlike the French or Swiss flag mentioned by @11101 , the union flag is not an automatically unifying symbol, particularly in N Ireland but also in Scotland.

Again, flying it on official buildings isn't really outrageous, is it?

No. But it could just be done without needing to release a big thing about it all over the press. We all know why it’s being done at this point, similarly to why there’s suddenly flags in every politicians house.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone complain that we didn’t have flags on enough government buildings.

No, but why now? What’s changed? We seem to have managed quite well without flags flying everywhere.
It woz that eu wonnit they banned our flag innit ... now we can fly our flagz wivout those bloody frogs n krauts getting all upset that we did em in the war... n now we can make Britain Great again innit ...EN...GER...LAND....summat summat muslamic ray guns

You’ve nailed it. In fact I am going to get a flag myself for next time I am on a video conf. Maybe with a cardboard cut out of Her Maj

I'd say the twits who rioted did more to show that the bill is justified than some misleading press release from the rozzers.
I'd normally agree but the bill wasn't designed for rioting and such. That's already illegal. It was to tackle peaceful protests that cause a nuisance.

Honestly I though Britain already did it. It's hardly going to be everywhere, is it? At least you'll be sure that you're at the correct place if you're looking for a government office since nobody else really flies the flag. I'll walk down a street here in Florence and see lots of Italian flags on homes and shops and official buildings. You barely see any in Britain so I don't see why people are getting salty about it. If you're getting annoyed by a flag on a building then I think you're a bit sad really.

Now if Britain goes like the US and you see flags and overt patriotism everywhere then I'll be moaning too.

Imagine my surprise.

The Government and arms of its governing power such as the Police are comfortable lying to our face repeatedly - the media will plaster those lies on tabloids & media, to skew & curate the national opinion in its favour. Then they'll turn around and issue an apology for lying & twisting the truth in small print on page 34 bottom right two weeks after the fact, while a fresh set of lies current cover the front page.
It's a shambles and we're doomed to suffer in its cyclicality because the British public quite simply don't care enough - as a whole we will just gasp in shock while we sleepwalk into authoritarian power.
Absolutely. The media are supposed to hold the government to account.

Who holds the media to account?

The people, but they don't care.

Apparently Priti Patel has spent over £100k of public money on lashes & eyebrows in the last 12 months, and nobody will care enough to hold them to account for shite like this.

edit - this whole thread is insane, her expenses look more like money laundering than legitimate spending & if it is legitimate then what the actual feck?! and if it's money laundering then seriously, why has nobody set something on fire yet?!

I saw this  has to be money laundering. I’m sure the Kardashians collectively don’t even spend that much on eyebrow threading in a year.

This sort of spending of the public purse should be a sackable offence, but no doubt she'll issue some statement that says it's not as it seems and she followed the rules.
Then she'll come up with a new way of taking away the human rights of refugees and all will be forgotten, because this country hates the 'other' more than the known enemy.

Yep. She’ll come out of this smelling of roses.

If this was to be investigated, what would the next step(s) be? What’s the process over there inside government?

Will it even be investigated? This would be red meat for any media outlet here.

She's quite safe because everyone in the current upper tiers of government is complicit. She's probably shagging Boris.

They would basically be investigating themselves, or at least their buddies would investigate them.

Where is that information coming from?

Slightly disingenuous to say all the spending is done by Priti herself for her personal benefit, but it is her department spending and she has oversight and ultimate approval.

How on earth do you spend £5k in primark?

What media coverage
The media were more appalled that a Labour MP bought some airpods.
See? This is why I ask! It makes me feel better about the state in which I live eviscerating basic voting rights immediately after an election they lost.

And they don't even have a website, you have to bought enough items to fit a lorry ffs.

I mean I come from a country where the Government sells marked up million $ contracts to their friends for things like utilities, infrastructure & transport - and it's still not as corrupt at this government.
