Not been following the story too closely from across the pond, but I don’t get it. Seems like she was an ex-BBC and ex-Reuters journo in Iran (for how long?) with her kids. And there’s a debate about whether she was on holiday vs meant to be on holiday but was actually also training local Journos?
But we don’t actually know who’s correct. Am I right?Basically Boris said she was training journalists when she was actually just over there on holiday. Putting her into more danger.
He's the foreign secretary. He's not meant to say things that put British citizens in foreign prisons. But we don’t actually know who’s correct. Am I right?
Or ppl think Boris should just have gone along with her defence?

I’ll say the same thing that I say to my stepson when he runs across the road without looking and tells me “but I didn’t get hit by a car”; being right doesn’t mean what you did wasn’t stupid.Got it.
But there IS the potential likelihood that she MIGHT’VE been a tad naughty? Or has that been thoroughly debunked?
Ok makes sense, so even a ‘we’re not sure, we’re trying to find out’ would’ve been much better than actually taking a side to ‘she was’ or ‘she wasn’t’?Irrespective of whether or not Boris is correct, he didn't know whether she was or not and saying she was without evidence has put her into more danger.
There's the potential likelihood that you might be currently cracking one off to a photo of Trump, but the burden of proof isn't on you to debunk it.Got it.

She was visiting her family with her young kid, and was arrested, charged and sentenced for "trying to topple the Iranian regime", despite no evidence being forthcoming.

(Obv a plain ‘she wasn’t’ might’ve helped her, but at what cost re UK-Iran trust if it came out Boris misled them)
Makes sense, thank you.All he had to say was 'To the best of our knowledge she was there on a family holiday, and to date the Iranian government have provided no evidence to contradict this. As such we call for her immediate release.' or something like that. It was actually much harder for him to feck the whole thing up, than it was to just use the same language diplomats have used for generations.
Only benefit of it all going to shit is that the Tories can't push through any backward policies, likely until they lose the nest election. No progress, but I would have taken that when the last election was called.
Jeez Gove and Johnson really are z grade politicians aren't they. This is the sort of thing I might expect from a local councillor or someone in student politics not from current or former ministers of state.
Clearly anyone with any brains is staying out of this febrile omnishambles of a government.
Omnishambles is an absolutely terrific word, has to be said.
Irrespective of whether or not Boris is correct, he didn't know whether she was or not and saying she was without evidence has put her into more danger.
Think Boris and the British government have been handed evidence that has been verified that shows she was there to teach journalism.
Still a huge balls up but it looks to me Boris wasn't lying but he was reckless to admit it publicly.
I strongly believe Boris is trying to get sacked so he can sit on the sidelines during Brexit and then pitch himself as the Tory saviour when the mess is at the feet of the cabinet.
First of all, what Johnson said might actually be true.
Nevertheless, the problem here is the raving loonies running Iran. In any 'normal' country who gives a feck if someone is a journalism teacher.

Yeah, 48 I think. I hope she stays to lead the Tories into the next GE - ASAP.Don't they need 48 or is it 50 to trigger a leadership contest?
I think they will keep her to pin a bad brexit deal on her then bin her...Yeah, 48 I think. I hope she stays to lead the Tories into the next GE - ASAP.
Labour will almost certainly win the next election considering the whole Brexit mess but I'm not sure they'll necessarily want to be in power before 2019. The Tories are hamstrung on introducing policy already and will inevitably feck up Brexit and leave everyone unhappy.
I'd want a GE and Labour government tomorrow. They would deliver brexit-light.Labour will almost certainly win the next election considering the whole Brexit mess but I'm not sure they'll necessarily want to be in power before 2019. And bankrupt the country again
Because as we know, the conservative western governments avoided the global financial crisis. What a load of shit. And bankrupt the country again
