Westminster Politics

There is some massive irony with Jeremy Hunt whenever he talks about the NHS

Johnson just comes across as a bigger buffoon in this, and this is what should be an easier ride than a public press conference.

Christ, who managed to convince Yvette Cooper that Boris is disabled? Not seen her that fired up since they had enough money to live on, without having to jump through flaming hoops.
Did you see her entire exchange? Full of ferocious soundbites and fire.

He needs to go, absolute embarrassment. This government is the worst I've seen, yes worse than the 2008 recession Labour government.

He is blatantly unfit.
Any kind of question that requires even the tiniest detail, he fumbles.

No chance are this government lasting the next four years, they'll be another election before then.

Sad fact is Boris isn’t going anywhere. He is into an 80 seat majority and he does not give a crap. Goodness only knows the mess the country will be in but it’s miraculous people are only finding out how he is now!

At least he actually has to work for a living now. He was expecting a big wheeze for four years of enriching him and his mates. He must hate how hard he has to work now.

'The really important thing now is you all stop asking me these difficult questions' is the jist of his feedback to committee so far.

Strength in numbers. The first few to stand up take the most courage.

Hilarious how quick the BBC is to apologise when its annoys the right-wing.

And yet they were falling over themselves in support of Laura Kuennsberg for her leaping into action to dismiss criticism of Cummings

Highly unlikely I am afraid.
It is preferable for them to continue, especially after we have formally left the EU.
Let those who voted leave to see what they have got us into.

Labour has time on its side. So let the problems continue to pile up on Mr Bumble and his immoral party.

Blaming unpopular policies or decisions on callous, out-of-touch or incompetent higher-ups works if you're a junior manager in a call-centre, not so much when you control of the legislative and executive branches of the government of one of the largest economies in the world.

On top of encapsulating all the worst traits of every PM we've had since before I was born, Johnson is a true coward.

No, they might change their leader. They have an 80 seat majority. They'll never call an election and no-one can force one.
they might... once they have got rid of the fixed term parliament act if they get to a position lets say in 3 years that starmer has sunk to corbyn levels of popularity then at that point they might call an early election
but with an 80 seat majority they will only call an election if they are very very sure of another large majority

Yes.
And he is nothing like as clever as his supporters think.

Just imagine him at a job interview:
Mr Johnson. Why do you think you are the best person for this job.

Well, ah, well, the thing is, ah, well...I have blond hair.

So Mr Johnson, what qualifications do you have.

Well, ah, well, the thing is, ah, well... I can speak posh.

Thank you Mr Johnson.
Now Fxxk Off.

Well, ah. Good idea.

Tbf I was slightly surprised at that Newsnight opening as it did seem out of keeping with their usual approach. I agree with what was expressed, obviously, but then that hardly matters.

Country will still vote Tory. If Johnson becomes a genuine problem they'll change leader and the country will vote Tory. There chances of Labour winning at the next election is very low. Has a majority of this size ever been overturned in a single GE? I'd doubt it.
They'll blame the EU or Covid for anything that goes wrong post Brexit and if the media step out of line then it's #scummedia and warnings for the BBC.
We've got nigh on ten years of these utter bastards to go and they are there now, have been there for a decade and will be for another with public support.
If Starmer looks like a threat they will feck him up.

Except that’s exactly the interview BJ gave 3 consecutive times (London mayor, Tory party leadership election and National General election) and won comfortably each time. How do you explain that?

More likely is the decimation of the economy caused by Covid (and the response to it) will show hugely "positive" economic trends 2021-2024. X amount of jobs created since Covid. X amount of people taken out of government support since Covid. X% economic growth since Covid. Deficit reduction of X% since Covid.

The decimation partly caused by awful government policy will be used as a barometer of normality; and growth from there declared as a great success.

Blend in the nostalgic look (from 4 years in the future) of how they stopped the best part of 10m people being income-less for months (despite that their policies were a huge contributing factor in the first place) and it should be a spectacularly easy task. No person receiving furlough, income support via self employment grants, bounce back loans etc will forget this for years to come; so it'll be simple to galvanise support from those people (and the people who have no need for furlough vote Tory anyway).

Remember every election since the Conservatives gained power "x jobs created", "y deficit reduction", "z less people on benefits". We've just had a factory reset to use the same winning formula.

Imagine Labour if they had the luxury of an 80 seat majority ending in 2012 when the financial crises hit. They'd be credited with "the recovery" and with a good bit of spin seen as a safe pair of hands.

At the same time it'll be impossible, if countered correctly, for Labour to pin anything big in terms of the blame on the Tories. They will say it's policitising a global pandemic that by this point is likely to have killed 1m worldwide.

I'm afraid you're broadly correct I believe.

Simple. He has charisma. And some people obviously take to him.
That is until they begin to see the real Boris.
And that is beginning to happen now.

The alternative is that he is a con man...
