Westminster Politics

Leadsom makes Mrs Thatcher seem humble.

No plans at all, merely...suggestions that sounded enticing. I wonder if they'll 'refine' the tuition fee policy too as the months pass.

She can still be removed from her party, right.

I would imagine so, although that is separate from parliament. And while i've not seen any recent reporting on the response from the party apparatus, the example of the Livingstone case tells us that such things can drag out. I do believe that many of Morris' colleagues expected her to do the honourable thing and resign, although the continuing support of her local Conservative branch might well be playing some role in this.

The irony of that Tory twitter page trying to 'out' Labour is delicious

They flipped throughout the election campaign, literally altering their manifesto as time went on because it was so poorly created, May flipped on Brexit, she flipped on calling an election in the first place etc.

What do you mean May said nothing changed?? Are you suggesting May is a liar

Lucky Corbyn that you tend to have to get into power to be outed as a lieing slimeball.

Although McDonnell has done quite well to dodge that requirement.
What's our John been lying about?

It's when he tells the truth I get more nervous...

Putting the n in cuts. What sort of low life piece of shit denies children a breakfast while spending over a billion on buying herself a job?

It's a vastly misleading headline to be fair.

The free school breakfasts were to replace free school lunches as a cost saving exercise (with enough money allocated to give each child about 7 beans each). The reason school breakfasts aren't happening is because school lunches are no longer going to be scrapped.

Is this right in your view, did Champion have to go? As might be expected the media have asked for the reaction of her constituents, including victims of Rotherham's own horrific abuse scandal. Listening to some phone-ins today it could at best be described as a lose-lose situation from a PR PoV for Labour.

But did anyone actually believe that she meant ALL men of Pakistani origin? And it's doubly worse with Champion being the MP for Rotherham. Consequently we've got people saying that she has been silenced.

Being caught in an apparent lie would normally be the main bone of contention, however that wasn't the prime motivator here.

No one who can be so clueless/reckless with language when discussing such matters should be in senior positions.

Unfortunate as i thought she was a likeable politician than might win voters over. In political land you have to go over this kind of mistake, especially as a Labour bencher. Now if she were Tory it could just be swept under the carpet.

I don't see what she did wrong. She's right. Did anybody genuinely think she meant every single Pakistani man in Britain? If you did then I suspect life is probably going to be very hard for you.

I live in Rotherham but I don't vote in her constituency.

This plays into the narrative that you dare not upset the Pakistani community in Rotherham or else. Which is why the whole issue got traction in the first place.

That would be ridiculous, it's every Muslim in Britain - as shown by the rag she wrote it in citing her in 'The Muslim Problem' article that has been doing the rounds ("Thanks to [...] Labour MPs such as Rotherham's Sarah Champion, it is acceptable to say Muslims are a specific rather than a cultural problem" see below). She made the decision to write for a newspaper that had already published (amongst many things) an article labelling asylum seekers as cockroaches and a quietly corrected front page saying 1 in 5 British Muslims sympathised with ISIS.
