Wesley Sneijder

Its rediculous all these stories fly around at same time with their own twist on things. Sure just look at Mad's post @2555, the link he posted, thats just a crazy piece of journalism. All the words & letters are all jumbled up. Not that i have anything against the hard-learning folk, but yer woman Laura Cirilli must be sydexilc comin out with that nonsense

Nah, he's not restricted to that role. Rooney plays higher up the pitch than Sneijder and while Rooney is a very good passer, he can't control a game with it like Sneijder can. As I said, Sneijder has all the attributes to play extremely well in CM as long as you put Carrick, Fletcher or Anderson beside him with suitable wingers, or a combination of two of them.

If you want to play Sneijder then you need to play two holding midfielders behind this, which we will not do. Mourinho recognised this and surrounded him with players that worked overtime for him, leaving Sneijder to do his thing.

You must be kidding me!!?

Meulensteen told the Dutch magazine Voetbal International: "Wesley Sneijder would fit perfectly here. He is the most ideal player for us that I can think of.

"I don't say that because he is Dutch. I have been at Manchester United for a while, I know all the ins and outs of the team and I know that he would be a great reinforcement.

"The new Paul Scholes does not exist, just as there is not a new Roy Keane, but I cannot think of anyone more perfect for us than Sneijder.

"He is not a runner, but perfectly two-footed. He can run the game and puts the ball wherever he wants. To me, he seems a perfect addition to players like Hernández, Rooney, Park, Young, Valencia, Nani and Giggs. Plus, Wesley has plenty of experience in top football, of course.

"I don't know how his future is at Inter, of course – whether he is allowed to leave and whether we can pay him. But purely on the basis of his ability, I would say 'Get Sneijder'."

Wesley Sneijder would be perfect signing, says Manchester United coach | Football | guardian.co.uk

Him or Nasri and we'll be more than good to go for a pre-season.

If United's staff really like the player, then Rene should talk to Sir Alex and David Gill about it.

He wouldn't have said this without Fergies blessing.

Fergie does what he wants. He will take on board the opinions of others at the club, but it's his decision.

I don't see that he expects the others to be yes men, and not speak for themselves.

For him to say this and with the fervency he insists on (not just because I'm Dutch; I know that he'd fit Hernandez, Rooney, Valencia, Nani, Young) and it being in the middle of a summer where this needs to be sorted, I think we might see something happen with this. And I usually don't bother with transfer speculation, so it's not all wishful thinking and muppetry.

Save the comment along with an article on the Pastore notion... but this here seems a lot meatier.

I have seen £30m being reported together with a £200k p/w wage demand. Figures I cannot see us adhere to - regardless of the quotes we have at hand right now.

We have to pay that much to get him but we will not be ready to offer his wage demands.

It's usually the players that play the muppet game like they did for Ronaldo. But for the coach to talk about Sneijder the way he as makes me believe this may happen.Unless of course it was taken out of context.

To be fair, when the players played the muppet game for Ronaldo, the transfer actually happened. When the coach played the muppet game recently for Stekelenburg, it did not happen.

Now the players seem to be playing the muppet game for Nasri.

I reckon Rene is putting pressure on our other targets with this announcement. United never name a target.

Unlike Rene to raise his head. This guy is a very clever guy. I knew that Schneijder was his preferred target (see earlier posts) but surprised he's voiced this publicly.

He must be up to something - just as he was when he announced Stekelenburg - don't believe Stekelenburg was ever the main choice - was always between De Gea & Neuer with perhaps Adler, Lloris, Stekelenburg as options.

This transfer is not easy. Obviously Inter are going to play hard-ball, the agents will play hardball. But I believe he is our main target - the person to sew everything together. I don't believe he plays the same role as Rooney - even if he does the point is to have a mobile & nimble midfield who can interchange and 1-touch passing with plenty of options, drive and quick-thought.

Quite fancy Nasri & Schneijder although none of these are going to be easy. That said - we seem to have got better at transfers in recent years. We used to be terrible!

Depends when he said it. Anyone know when the interview with RM was?
