Wesley Sneijder

To be honest it's seems more and more like there's a new breed of football fan emerging. The sort that seem more interested in what superstar player is signed than how we actually do on the pitch.

I find it quite bizarre.

For the record though, I'm not accusing you of this. This is the first time I've really noticed you in this thread.

Don't think you're accusing me but I'm not sure this statement is true either.

I don't think we're interested in him being a superstar or not. I was excited by De Gea & Young as I'd seen them play (albeit De Gea on Youtube)! These guys weren't superstars!

I think if you asked most fans if they'd be excited at us signing the likes of Pirlo, Ibrahimovic, Raul, even van Nistlerooy right now, the answer would be no. They're big names, but they wouldn't really bring that much to our team so I don't think you can level that.

While I like Cleverley you can't compare him to Sneijder just yet. What you can say is that Sneijder may help guide a way to the likes of Anderson and Cleverley.

What I'm excited by is the prospect of his experience (won treble with Inter Milan and World Cup finalist) and skill as central midfield player or trequartista and seeing his intelligence link up with the sheer football intelligence of Rooney. I think this could be explosive in linking midfield to attack.

My friend is a Liverpool fan who doesn't want Sneijder to join us as he believes it completes us. I agree and this is why I'm excited.

It's fecking weird.

There's a guy on my twitter feed I went to highschool with. In the off season you'd think he's the biggest Liverpool fan around. Constantly retweeting, constantly saying the formations new players can play. Talking about the players they're going to sign and how they're "world class"

The other day when they were playing Arsenal he tweeted "out in the garden, what's the Liverpool score" or something to that effect. He couldn't even be bothered to watch the game. There is 100% fans now who like signing players more than football.

The sheer desperation shown by many United fans wanting this to happen has been nothing short of embarrasing to be honest.

I don't really care. I'm happy whether we sign him or not. I just agree with cw that it's faintly pathetic that so many people are desperately obsessing over signing a famous player like they're 12.

That website, for example, is complete cringe and the kind of thing we'd laugh at City or Liverpool for doing.

Sense in the transfer forum? Things are looking up.

How anyone would want him to join City is beyond me.
In this thread there are 2 types of spastics: Those who are so desperate for us to sign him and those who would like to see him join our rivals just to have a laugh at those who would like to see him here.

If he joins City they will have a feckin damn strong team.

Got news for you. They already have one.

Why are my hopes always raised when I see this thread is still going, only to have them dashed once I open it?

Seriously, I think it would be great for football if we could retain the league with the squad we've got without spending another £35 million , and leave big spending City trailing

When David Beckham left Old Trafford for Real Madrid in 2003, rather than meet Ronaldinho’s astronomical wage demands, United instead paid £12 million for an unknown 17 year-old by the name of Cristiano Ronaldo.
I'll just drop this in here...pinched it from a thread in the United forum.

My way of saying there are reasons why United might not always bother with big name signings.

I don't think we should break our wage structure for Sneijder. Time to move on to what by all accounts will be an exciting year.

I also can't see us buying Sneijder. And even more after that post reminding us the summer of 2003.

But... prepare for Wednesday... The muppet Wednesday.

The 13th UEFA Elite Club Coaches Forum will be held at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, on the afternoon of Wednesday 31 August and the morning of Thursday 1 September.

Yeah, Fergie in Nyon, so no transfers... but... A number of Europe's premier coaches have been invited and among those who have confirmed their attendance are: (...) Sir Alex Ferguson (Manchester United FC), (...) Gian Piero Gasperini (FC Internazionale Milano), (...).

Just prepare...

PS. I can't understand why they invited the manager of West Bromwich... I understood it last season, because he was at Liverpool, but why now?!

Twisting of history slightly.

Kenyon fecked that one up, he thought that Ronaldinho was set on coming to us and was trying to be smart and wouldn't raise his bid above £19m. Barca offered £22m, PSG accepted, the rest is history.

It wasn't anything to do with his wages, if we'd got Ronaldinho, we still would have got Ronaldo. We coverted him for 2 seasons, we knew we had to get him.

Pah, no wonder Sneijder hasn't signed for us:

'The Mail on Sunday says Sneijder’s glamorous wife Yolanthe could hold the key to breaking the deadlock in his proposed £35million move to Manchester United as the couple have already appointed an agency to work on commercial deals in the English speaking world.

Former United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Bloody Kenyon, now a partner at Creative Artists’ Agency, is aiding the search for new deals for the couple and a move to the UK would boost the profiles of both the player and his TV presenter wife.'

*sobs in a muppetesque fashion*

Yeah I know what happened there but you have to admit it's the twist in the history that makes the point. :p

I'm just trying to give a bit of comfort to some on here.....

Promises her a prime time chat show, ends up getting her on Babestation at 3am.

@MOgdenTelegraph Mark Ogden:
Man City offered Sneijder by Inter for a second time during Nasri delay. City said no. Inter clearly looking to move him on. #mcfc

Man Utd appear to have drawn a line under Sneijder. Will take a big climbdown by the player for anything to happen now.

Nothing new.
Or:

United want Wes, Sneijder wants us and Inter Milan want the money. The ball is in his court. #MUFC

There's hundreds of posts in this thread saying how funny it would be if we don't sign him, I think it'll be funnier to see the reaction of the non muppets who are convinced this won't happen, if it does go through.

So people who don't think it's going to happen are muppets? That's a new twist.

There's muppets, then there's people who don't give a shit.... then there's people who seem to monitor this thread as much as the muppets and rather than believe it's going to happen from the slightest bit of hope, they do the opposite and knock every bit of hope away even though they know as much as anyone else.

The Antimuppets.

The worst are still the top reds who basically keep telling everyone that we should never want new signings because that's "muppetry".

I'm not sure many people really say that Siorac, that would mean they never want us to sign another player, and hope our team never ages. I can see the argument for this season though, or specifically right now, it's not absolutely vital we have a CM at all, but it would sure enough boost the quality of the squad and first team if we did. What I think is strange is the people who are seemingly attached to this transfer, in the sense that if it doesn't happen, a part of them might actually die. Sneijder isn't that big a deal, if we get him, it will be good for us, if not, we will move on happily, nothing really hinges on this transfer, but for seem it's an end of the world type scenario.

I'd love a nice new shiny creative midfielder but not as much as I'd love a mass suicide of transfer muppets.

Not sure why that's seen as such a great move. In the following 3 seasons United won an FA Cup and a League Cup while Ronaldinho's Barcelona won their League twice and the European Cup. Ronaldinho himself won the World Player of the Year award twice. Yeah, Ronaldo turned out to be a fantastic player as well, but that doesn't mean it was a good idea to turn down Ronaldinho.

No, who knows what may have happened. Ronaldinho could have accelerated his decline faster with us, or postponed it completely. But considering the player he was, I'm more than happy with what we achieved without him.

Yes but that wasn't the point of the post was it.

I don't understand how one can be so obsessive about a transfer story. Maybe if it's a player you idolize, but what compels one to constantly seek out and post stories, reports and most likely rumors on the topic on an almost continuous basis, I really don't know.

That's my take on that particular topic.

Sneijder's out of tonight's friendly. You know what this means*!!!1!
