Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Sneijder will probably remain at Inter, but only because no serious offers have been made.

I don't think we've bid for him TBH.

And I actually agree, I don't think he's excactly what we need in midfield, and I don't think it's worth it blowing our wage structure off the scale for a player who is essentially going to play the role that Rooney performs for us, brilliant player as he is.

He wouldn't fit into a two-man midfield the way Carrick, Anderson, Cleverley etc does, he doesn't have the defensive game to play there against a decent side. We would be overrun in midfield.

If we're not going to drop Hernandez/Welbeck and change our formation, then I'm quite happy with us not signing him.

We've got lots of defensive midfielders: Carrick, Fletcher, even Gibson can play defensive midfield. We don't need this type of player esp. when we're getting 60-70% possession stats!

But having a player that is better at using the ball than these three is surely the way forward weather it's wes or not especially with 60% poss

Still believe he's coming! And even after 8-2 against the Arsenal I still believe hell add to what we've got!

The only thing this current side is missing is an in form Darren Fletcher

Why do i hear a frog and a woman moaning when i click this link?

Sorry about that - it's the sound of us muppets fighting over Sneijder:

Yeah, Fletcher is really what we need right now, we've been so much worse off ever since he stopped playing for us last March. That must be the reason for all those dreadful performances.

There were reports in the papers yesterday about how we told Nasri to feck off after he started clambering for more money so if we've put an offer on the table for Sneijder and we can't agree personal terms I reckon Fergie will just walk away. Playing for United should be enough for him (plus 100+k wages!) and if it isn't then Fergie wouldn't go anywhere near him.

I find it wierd that we're building a young team and there hasn't been other younger midfielders we've been linked with. There must be some gems lurking in some of the european leagues, surely.

It's rumoured on some forums that Sneijder has been given permission to delay meeting-up with the Dutch squad until Friday, in light of a possible transfer development.

We have been linked to Mario Gotze from Borussia Dortmund and Paulo Henrique Ganso of Santos just to name a couple of good young midfielders.

The Nasri business was more that we had supposedly agreed a deal with him, at which point he went to City looking for more. When it appeared his City deal was collapsing he came crawling back to us at which point we told him to feck off.

The Sneijder deal apparently has always been about him lowering his wage demands, or us increasing our wage offered. If he agrees a deal with us and then decides after that actually it isnt enough and he wants more, then he'll be told to feck off as well.

I dont believe this deal is on any more..... but there's always that small doubt in my mind that it is

There's just a feeling that we're either going to sign Sneijder or no one at all. I think we were warned about the articles that would appear in the British press on Gotze a few days in advance from an itk...recyled quotes and all that.

Your probably right, but we are linked to players all over the place all of the time, though most have no element of truth in them. I still think there's a chance that the Sneijder deal will get done, but a Ganso or Gotze who are both around 20 would set us up for years to come.

young european midfielders let me think.......paul pogba, ravel morrison.I think fergie believes he has got some gems in the cupboard and signing a midfield player at this stage will only stop there development, time will tell

So we should put Europe on the back burner for 2-3 years to wait for the talented youth players?

By the time they're ready the likes of Giggs, Carrick and Gibson will play lesser roles or will have been sold/retired. We're short there already so there's space for a midfielder without affecting the development of the young players. Pogba will probably only play once or twice this season. I reckon Morrison will be lucky to get that.

Gibson as a defensive midfielder? Don't give me nightmares.

we need sneijder.
we need him for tough european games and the games against chelsea, city, liverpool.
in these games we can stick to a 4-3-3 and still be very potent if sneijder is around.

--------------rooney------------------
young--------------------------nani--
--------------sneijder----------------
------ando--------------fletch-------

this is a very good line up for the tough games that we will have.
