He played a part, he was by no means the key player you numpties.

A certain Paul Scholes came back in 2006 after his eye surgery, his contribution was significantly more important that Carrick's

The problem with that thinking is Scholes was also around in 2004 and 2005 (albeit only half of that season) when we won nothing. Had Carrick not been signed in 2006 Scholes would of been partnering the same players as he did in those barren seasons, yet we did sign Carrick and go on to win 3 titles in a row.

We'd of not done as well in those 3 years and potentially the last 5 years if Carrick wasn't at the club ergo his contribution has been huge

Its slightly biased in that he's been excellent for us & i'm not alone in understanding the role he & Scholesy played in us being a much better team than we were before he arrived. We struggled the previous year or two, we played Giggys & O'Shea there for a massive chunk of a season, because Scholesy was injured etc..

Carrick came along & gave us the platform for the the team to excel. It was deemed the missing link to a potentially great team & in 2008 we didnt disappoint, nor have we for 4 out of the past 5 years either. I like Carrick & i respect what he's given us, but of course Fergie's been the most influential person at United because he buys players that will improve the teams chances of winning trophies.

Carrick was an excellent buy & that list of trophies we won since he's been here speaks for itself - thats all i'm sayin & people should acknowledge that more often!

I personally don't think he was an excellent buy. I think Keane for 3.5million was an excellent buy. When people make that argument, they're attribute it to one play so it's a flawed argument since it's a team game. At the end of the day though, this discussions about Sneijder so what can we do? :)

Why bring logic into a debate about football? We won a league with Giggs and O'shea in the midfield....the point being, football isn't systematic. There are more variables at play then just signing someone.

People should go back to the year prior to us winning the league. We would have won the league, but for fixture congestion which fecked us up. If that happens, peoples perception completely changes about the season after when we won our first premiership.

We never won the league with Giggs and O'Shea in midfield, we went on a good run at the end of 2005-06 with that two but it wasn't enough that year.

Of the 307 pages in this thread how many of them do you reckon are actually about Sneijder?

You should try it one day. You'd be a lot easier to understand, that's for sure.

So it was Carrick and not Ronaldo then ? Maybe he should have been named world player of the year instead

That's what I thought.

Depending on tonights game this thread will go one of two ways.
(What's the betting Carrick has a blinder?)

Shut the feck up about Carrick!

His own thread is alive and well in the United forum.

Sir Alex Ferguson's msg to #MUFC fans in prog notes: 'I have every faith in present squad . . don't fret about transfer market

Damn right.

the biggest WUM in all of this was macheda the bastard!

No, if he had wanted to ease the suffering he would have said "There's no chance whatsoever of United signing anyone else in this transfer window".

He really should say that, otherwise we'll keep fretting.

Well Fergie just told us "not to fret". He didn't deny anything.

And when did this thread turn into a Carrick bashing one

Would love sneidjer...
Wouldn't mind nasri
... Is currently gay about Modric....

But I see cleverly playing a huge part this season same as ando with giggsy/carrick/fletch as support...

But if we are ambitious enough.. A sneijder type player definitely has more potential to score a big game goal than both cleverly + ando

And a Pippo Inzaghi type player has more potential to score a big goal than Sneijder, point being?
