Wesley Sneijder

 This thread.

I imagine some of you lot will self-implode if the transfer window closes and we haven't signed Wesley.

I think most on here realise that this transfer is very unlikely for various reason but it has become something of a tradition to post on here to this extent about various unrealistic transfer targets every year. It was Benzema two years ago, then Ozil last year.

Eto'o will be a Anzhi player by Saturday. 40m is the fee so we can expect Tevez at Inter soon!

They are talking about taking Tevez on loan.

I'm sure he'll be at Inter eventually. A loan deal would probably suit everyone. However if they do buy him outright then maybe they could get some money from selling Sneijder as well

So.... lets recap..

July 14: “Manchester United hope to complete the £35million transfer of Wesley Sneijder after agreeing terms of around £190,000 a week with the Inter Milan midfielder”

July 18: “Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says it is time to forget about signing Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder”

August 2: “Paul Scholes has launched Manchester United’s latest charm offensive in their pursuit to sign Wesley Sneijder. The retired midfielder – now a member of manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s backroom coaching team – hailed the Inter Milan star as a ‘brilliant’ player amid reports that the Barclays Premier League champions are close to reaching a £30million deal with the Serie A side to land the Dutch ace”

August 6: “Noisy neighbours’ Manchester City have struck a huge blow to their bitter rivals United after snatching Wesley Sneijder from under their noses. According to reports in Italy, a £31million feel has been agreed with Inter Milan and the player will sign a £5m-a-year deal”

August 10: “Wesley Sneijder paved the way for a move to Manchester United when he admitted he has spoken to the Premier League champions about a move to Old Trafford. United have so far been frustrated by Sneijder’s wage demands as they look to add the highly rated midfielder to their squad ahead of the new season. The 27-year-old is asking for more than £200,000 a week, a figure that the champions are unwilling to match”

Seriously has no one posted this yet?

Sneijder salary package so complex/expensive will need to be approved by #MUFC board. Still long way off agreement.

We need Rooney to talk to the Glazers again.

As opposed to less complex and expensive contracts that are approved by the tea lady?

It's Ian McGarry.

Ian McGarry.

Sir Alex promised Wazza improvements back in October. Reckon a deal was discussed back then, should Scholes retire. He has now (unfortunately) and Sneijder will follow.

I'm not sure any player would have that much influence over SAF, perhaps the Glazier family assured Rooney about funds but I doubt any promises were made.

I think Sneijder came about after the CL final. When SAF was shaking it was shocking and very sad to see but maybe it was the eye opener to show just how far off the pace our central mid really was/is.

I don't think Rooney was so clear about who he wanted us to sign. We have already spent nearly £50m this Summer so promise has been kept even though we haven't improved our first team.

So we have to get the approval of the board again even though we're now owned by the Glazers. What a load of bollocks.

The better we are as a team, the better chance we have of beating Barcelona. We could have a better team than them and still lose, and have a worse team than them and still win, but our chances improve with our quality, the same as they do against any side. Sniejder would improve our side's quality.

This is the most tedious transfer saga I've known. The tev and berba ones were long but there was always the feeling we'd get our man. We've got no idea even after all this time what's gonna happen and we need our man even more than we needed the afore mentioned players.

More positively, Inter have met with Genoa officials to discuss the transfer of Juraj Kucka, amongst others. Kucka's not the only midfielder Inter have looked at recently...which is a bit odd if they were planning to keep Sneijder.

Well considering the board is made up of the Glazers, Gill, Bolingbroke and Woodward, it does make sense.

I assume Gill has offered a package which was within our budget, which was then negotiated by Sneijder's representatives, now he has to go to the rest of the board in order to work out if they feel it is within the clubs interest to adjust that budget.

I'm guessing it isn't as simple as the sliding bar in Football Manager.

Are we selling Vidic and Nani because we have signed Jones and Young?

Also, it's not odd at all because they are shirt in midfield and have coveted plenty of midfielders even before we were linked with Sneijder.

Inter's financial position is far worse than ours, despite appearances. They would not be shopping around at all if they weren't expecting to receive fees for outgoing players.

I'd say there has been the feeling we'll get our man all summer.

When we go into proper negotiations like we apparently are now, I can't see us not signing him.

Has there been a time before where we have failed in negotiations at this stage?

Eto'o seems very likely to go and he will command a €30m fee if we believe the reports. They won't have to replace him immediately because they have Pazzini, Pandev, Milito and possibly some other young striker I've never heard of.

No one seems to know what stage were really at and he seems to want over 200k a week. It has been a rather tedious one.
