Wesley Sneijder

Funny you should mention Gazzetta, they're currently running the sensationalist headline Eto'o: "D'accordo con l'Anzhi" United a Milano per Sneijder?, but have nothing of substance in the article itself (unless you consider the Mirror story something of substance).

Sky News quotes Inter president saying Sneijder will leave this transfer window.

So we're nearly at 10,000 posts, he's not signed and people are still debating whether he can play in a two man midfield.

 Well it has been so long since the start of the thread, that i've forgot what the verdict was! Or maybe Sneijder has reinvented himself as a player capable of playing in a 2 man midfield since the last verdict was reached.

We need a new thread title: Can Sneijder not play in a 2 man midfield yet? :D

Whoa there. When, how, why, where did he say that? Is that Sky Italia or Sky Sports News or just plain old Sky News?

You've got to be more specific, man, we can't take it anymore.

Edit: And by Inter president you mean Massimo Moratti, right, not the chief executive who's been mouthing off an awful lot lately?

He can against lesser teams, not against the big guns, but I think SAF will start going 4-3-3 again against them.

Meh, not bothered, not the type of midfielder we need anyway.

I would prefer others for that type of money truth be told. But if we are indeed going to buy him which is looking increasingly likely, i would be much happier with him operating in a set up which gives him the best chance possible to play his natural game.

This isn't half dragging on is it? When will he sign? I don't fecking care about two-man-midfields or whether or not we need him, or if Tom Cleverley is the best thing since sliced bread, or if he's gonna make Seba Veron look like bargain of the century, we fecking have to sign him! It's too teasing for us muppets if he doesn't sign that dotted line anytime soon.

It was okay in the weekend when we at least had something reminiscent of a competitive fixture to chew on, and a fantastic midfield performance from Tom Cleverley and Anderson to spunk our load over, but as of now I'm slowly dying inside, for each passing(see what I did there?) moment that goes by without a remotely believable tweet, let alone an official confirmation from the club. I'm not sure I can bare another Berbatovesque deadline day transfer, at that point my cock will have been out far too often for it to have any realistic hope of surviving the inevitable, climatic spunkshot. The eruption will likely cause my demise, and all this would have been in vain. So in short, get it fecking done Fergie/Gill!

Duncan Castles (Twitter) offering up his explanation as to why he wrote what he did.

...in the preceding days we'd had various stories of #mufc closing up the Sneijder deal...

.on Saturday I got a message from my @SprtNationalUAE senior editor asking for a definitive report on Sneijder...

...the previous evening I'd spoken to a source who told me #mufc had called off their attempts to sign Sneijder. The deal was "dead"...

...source backed that up with strong evidence. At this point it looked to me like #mcfc had done deal. Question was if Nasri going too...

...I called a senior contact at #mcfc, who confirmed their interest in Sneijder but said cost was too high. Again lots of supporting detail.

..was also told that #mcfc principal target was Nasri, confirming a story based on other sources I'd published early July...

...I then out a tweet out saying that people should treat the Gazetta story with care. Couldn't say more because writing for my employers..

..then followed a barrage of questions, to which I could only say I'd have more detail in the papers later...

...after further calls, I wrote a piece stating the position of both clubs on Sneijder. It was published in papers I'm paid to write for...

...lots of people clicked through to their websites to read the article; I end up being accused of fabricating stories to generate traffic..

So, is it really so wrong to write a carefully sourced article on the issue of the day, and provide links (one entirely free) to it online?

if we keep doing it at post per minute pace. in just 2 and half hour we will get it to 10000

A Berbatov 2.0 situation where we don't end up getting our man until the last minute at a jacked up price?

It could be the opposite.

Tottenham genuinely didn't need to sell Berbatov, we really wanted to buy him.
United genuinely don't need to buy Sneijder, Inter really want to sell him.

All the nonsense about 2 men midfield should really stop. I think we are going towards Barcelona's football where all the forwards can interchange positions and drop deep into midfield, ie playing without an all-out striker.

Agreed, Sneijder will perform a Xavi type role presumably.
